It's no understatement to say that Bistro Sakana serves up some of the freshest and most imaginative sushi in Vancouver. We've been coming here for years and we have never left unsatisfied. The recent renovation has given the place a fresh new sophisticated look. Our only complaint is that when it gets busy wait times can be long. Our favorites are the Yam Fries, Teppan Roll, Isobe Age, and Ginger Hamachi. If you frequent All You Can Eat style Japanese restaurants than you will probably find it expensive. Quality, freshness, and creativity are another matter though, i.e. you get what you pay for. We think it's one of the best. Highly recommended.
The sushi we had here was top notch. The sashimi was fresh and well presented. The rolls were not that creative, pretty standard, but delicious. The slightly warm, soft rice and the fresh ingredients had a lot to do with this. Good maki sushi is always made with warm rice. It is rare to find this and we certainly appreciated it. Service was good, no problems in this area. The decor looked a bit out of date and the place is in need of a makeover. I would recommend this restaurant if food is your main concern and ambiance is not that important.
We Love this Place! The sandwiches here are fab, and combined with a soup and salad make for a nourishing and satisfying lunch. Good beer on tap as well. We love to sit out on the the street side patio, and the interior is kinda funky too. Service is always adequate, although not stellar. A great choice for brunch or lunch. Highly recommended!
You know how the saying goes (I hope). And based on experience this review covers every Earls I have ever been to! Whoops, it looks like I have fallen victim to that old saying myself. Let's face it places like Earls are meat markets under the guise of restaurants. And the salt!!! My goodness, one might as well bring a salt block along and lick it between drinks! Service has to be literally hunted for, and even then you might find yourself being evaded. Prices are outrageous for what you get. Definitely not recommended!
Bella has been a main stay of ours for close to 20 years now. The consistency has gone up and down over that period but overall it's still a solid choice for pizza downtown. I do suggest that you walk over and wait while they make your pizza, though. Travel time never does a pizza good. If you do have to have it delivered these guys are pretty good about getting it to you fairly quickly, with the odd exception. Beats some of the other chain places hands down.
We enjoyed our experience here. The ramen tasted quite authentic, the gyoza, although huge, was quite tasty, and the atmosphere was very Kyotoesque. I would definitely recommend this place. I have had good ramen around town and bad. This place serves it up simple, but good. I would appreciate it if they were open later, though. They serve only beer for alcohol, hot sake would be nice, too.
We love the cheese cake here. Dropped in just to take a look at this tiny chocolate shop. We didn't eat chocolate but the cheese cake looked delicious. One bite in confirmed it. The guy behind the counter was very friendly, the service was polite and prompt. What more can you ask for. Might just become a regular. Ambiance was okay & clean. No restrooms to be seen though.
Brown's in Yaletown seems like a restaurant that just does not get it. Prompt service, hot food, attentive service (with a smile) are rare commodities here. Our food arrived cold, the server was next to impossible to track down, and we waited far to long for our food to arrive, and for our order to be taken. The bill came promptly. Portions were small. The food was acceptable, but overpriced and cold. Don't think we'll be back.
That's it for us. No more Samurai. The food was awful. The cleanliness of the bathrooms very questionable. The service wasn't bad, but again, the food just did not cut it. Volume is one thing, but when presented with a large plate of bad food it does not really factor in. Small or large it's still bad food. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Ambiance has a lot to be desired, it's tired, old, and crumbling.
A great place for a fill up. Not unlike Stephos, another Davie Street institution that offers moderate quality food at affordable prices and high volume. Service is excellent. This was our first visit here and the server was quite helpful in suggesting good choices with a smile. If you find yourself very hungry with little time this is a good choice. Ambiance was nothing great, but clean and offering a good view of the Davie Street.
Quite frankly the best burger I have had, aside from my own b.b.q. Well, actually it might even rival that. These guys deserve success for a simple but great idea: high quality ingredients cooked with a flame and served up with a smile. I'll be back, again and again. Ambiance is fine (it's a burger place!). Value is indicated by the quality of the finished product. Well done!
