Me-N-Ed'S Pizza Parlor1121 Austin Avenue, Coquitlam
Good pizza, very tasty, BAD VALUE!!! (Expensive!)
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 9:00pm [Dine in]

My friend and I went and had one large pizza, wasn't enough to fill us, thin crust so not that much dough.

Very tasty and would eat it again for sure, but it is expensive. If it was about 25% cheaper I'd come more often.

One problem with the food I have is that they make pizza on pre-cooked pizza dough (i.e. they bake the dough then add the ingredients then put it in the over to melt the cheese) so generally their pizzas are fairly cold when you get them and really cold very quickly afterwards. Don't like cold pizza myself. Don't get delivery because it will be totally cold by the time it gets to you. Also, the crust is way too thin and crispy for a satisfying meal.

Ikea Restaurant & Cafe1000 Lougheed Highway, Coquitlam
YUCKY warmed up food, one notch higher than McDonald's (maybe?)
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:50pm [Dine in]

Really gross food. Okay if you'll have coffee and a cake, but anything they cook (*umph*) I should say "warm up" is really terrible.

The ambience is just awful, it's very dirty and the turn-over is really high which doesn't give the (I guess) poorly paid staff enough time or motivation to clean the tables or sweep the floor. The place smells like vinegar from all the ketchup people eat with their heat-lamp warmed soggy fries and the children in the kid seats certainly don't help the horrible noise and filth the dining room is in on most days.

Really gross overall.

My Greek Taverna946 Brunette Avenue, Coquitlam
EXCELLENT food, fantastic value, kind of food every Greek restaurant should have!
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:44pm [Dine in]

Fantastic food! I eat here at least once a month. Tasty tasty tasty! Excellent value, huge portions, don't change anything! You can substitute for fries if you'd like, big glass of pop, everything I've tried has been incredibly flavourful. Can't say enough about the food and the value.

Service is pretty bad though. Depends who you get. The lady that owns the place (I think her father is the owner) with dark hair is very nice. The really really tall blonde waitress is incredibly rude, condescending and ill-mannered. Most of the waitresses don't care and I guess must be overworked because they are really impolite and bitchy.

The place is really loud, which doesn't bother me. Overall it's FANTASTIC food and I will come here always if it stays like this. Can't say enough about the food.

Cumpari Gelato & Caffe535 North Road, Coquitlam
Really really small gelato portions
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:37pm [Dine in]

Ok, where do I begin? If you want to pay $6 for a single scoop of gelato, then that's fine, Cumpari is for you. This place has the most ridiculously small portions of ice cream considering the price of any Gelato place I've ever been to in Europe or here. What are you thinking? The small cup is like 2 ounces or something. I got a large (even with the large you can only have 2 flavours! Mondo Gelato let's you pick 6!!!) I couldn't believe my eyes of how little ice cream I got for $6!!!

I was in Italy and for 3.50 euros ($5 dollars) I got about 5 times the amount of ice cream.

The coffee was okay, but nothing special. Nice espresso machine. I'm sure the staff got a 45 minute orientation on how to use it, and that's it, because that's how it tastes, push-button and no artistry.

Beautiful restaurant. All skin, however. Food quality is OK, the ice cream was decent-tasting, just really bad value.

Surprised place is not higher ranked

Excellent sushi, awesome portions, excellent food!
You will love the food and be impressed by the quality and portion size.

Service is mediocre to poor, but it's getting better. I eat here several times a week, almost always take-out as it's hard to get a table. Service is not as bad as it used to be. I highly recommend the salmon nigiri and sashimi as the fish is well prepared, cleaned and properly cut! Portions are large and perfect.

Not sure why you'd eat here other than for the ambiance
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:25pm [Dine in]

The food is overpriced but decent. I have been here many times as it has lots of room and different choices perfect for an office or group party and the food is at least consistent. Plus it's a chain so people know what it is.

But it's not a place you go to for the food. It's by no means great and there is nothing memorable. Not cheap either.

Nice employees, pretty place, but crappy food and crappy coffee
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:19pm [Dine in]

Not quite sure why you'd come here as the coffee is bad and the food/deserts are really crummy. I don't expect 5 star food, I'm looking at it from the point of "is this the best coffee/desert place it could be?" And it's definitely not. the quality of the deserts and pastries is atrocious and they are overpriced. Coffee is poor and odd-tasting in comparison to other chains like Starbucks. The staff are friendly and nice. The place is neat, clean and very pleasant, lots of papers to go around. If the food and coffee were better I'd come here to hang out, but otherwise I don't go.

Typical run-of-the mill unimpressive and box-cutter sushi place
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:15pm [Dine in]

Nothing great here, no impressive potions like California Sushi or SushiTown, just typical low-quality sushi that you won't come back again to. You would only eat here for convenience if you just had to have sushi and nowhere else to go or because you're a first time visitor. Otherwise you won't want to come back.

Pretty much what you'd expect, cardboard food, bad service, ok price
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:12pm [Dine in]

The food here is very much what you'd expect, I'd say two notches lower than a Denny's. Your typical clientele of seniors and regular folk looking for good price for whatever they can get even if it is cardboard with sauce.

Service is awful and you will wait a long time. Food is effectively microwave-only, everything tastes like just microwaved and you will leave the restaurant wondering "why in the world did I just eat here?" and hopefully never return.

Very mediocre food, extremely poor value, very poor in comparison with others
Submitted Sunday, January 17, 2010 - 8:08pm [Dine in]

The favourable reviews about this restaurant are for sure ringers by someone from the restaurant family or ownership because this place has really bad to mediocre food and is really bad value. I strongly encourage you to pass on this place.

I went there few nights ago and was shocked by the price and the poor food quality. Honestly, I only went by mistake because Mr Greek Taverna on Brunette was full to the brim and the wait for a table was 2 hours.

Portions here were tiny and so expensive compared to good Greek restaurants like Mr Greek Taverna on Brunette or even fast-dish ones like Stepho's Downtown.

The daily special was a beef souvlaki for $15.95 (rather pricey for the daily special and horrible value for what it ended up being) and ended up being a tiny SINGLE skewer of beef no more than 4-5 ounces altogether. The beef was heavily marinated but you could still taste the staleness (the "blue" beef taste of meat that is almost spoiled). The rice was old and obviously boiled, then quickly roasted rather than being roasted completely as it should be. It was dry and had no flavour at all, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been microwaved. The potato was also boiled and wasn't roasted at all, was still full of water when I cut it. I wish I took photos of this dish to show you how pathetic it looked.

The salad was old and stale and appeared to be straight out of the fridge with a quick dash of oil and cheese as it was in a separate bowl. The tzatsiki was in a plastic cup.

I should mention that that was the cheapest meal on the menu. The lamb was over $20, which is ridiculous because Mr Greek has fantastic lamb for $11.95 and Stepho's serves awesome lamb for $8.95!!!! I can't even imagine what crap they would have given me had I ordered that.

We had a calamari appetizer which was super greasy and clearly made from frozen from those bulk-purchased pre-made breaded kalamari. You might as well buy a bag from Safeway and throw it into a deep-fryer because at least your oil will be fresher as this had a stink of reused oil that's changed once a month.

My friend ate everything on his meal and was still not full. I have never previously walked out of a Greek restaurant and not been so full that I can hardly stand up. This is my first disappointing Greek restaurant experience.

The server was clean and polite. The restaurant decor was outdated and old-fashioned but clean and neat.

As was to be expected from such horribly mediocre and poor food, the restaurant was almost completely empty.

Very disappointing and I am shocked that a family-owned restaurant would not be better, I guess the family just doesn't care.
