Worst Service!
Submitted Thursday, July 17, 2008 - 11:43pm [Dine in]

We went for an open mike night which was actually pretty good. We arrived before it was busy and went out to the patio. Waited about 10 minutes and finally got tired of waiting and went to the bar to get a pitcher of beer. We moved inside and asked for another pitcher from a server about a half hour later. She proceeded to bring the wrong kind of beer to the wrong table. We had waited for over 20 minutes by that time and decided enough was enough. One of our party went to the bar and commented about the poor service. The bar manager became hostile and we decided that it was time to leave. Would not go back to this place if you paid me.

Good italian home cooking - not gourme
Submitted Friday, April 4, 2008 - 7:50pm [Dine in]

We went for a nice relaxing evening to have great food and wine. We ordered pre-dinner drinks and my friend received his drink and mine was nowhere to be seen. I received mine when the main course arrived. The wine that we ordered with our main course arrived first!!! Not cool. As far as the food goes, it was solid home cooked italian fare. Not gourmet, but a good home-cooked meal. The ambiance is something to be desired as well as location. They forgot to put the wine on our bill, which I diligently reminded them of (was I nuts!!). The tiramisui was to DIE FOR. I would go back for dessert, but they are a family run operation and close at 9:00pm. Good restaurant, but not in it for the money or late night clientele.

Wish I had visited sooner.

I used to live in Victoria and would always hear good things about Rebar. I wish I would have gone for breakfast sooner. I have now been there twice for breakfast and the menu has been quite unique. I am a meat eater, but tried veggie sausage for the first time and it was good! I did find the service to be relaxed but they were in good spirits and filled water glasses as well as serving food in good time. Consistently good breakfast every time I have visited and I will be a repeat customer.

Signed the veggie breakfast convert.

Not only did we have drinks immediately, the staff was attentive the whole night. Our server and others cleared away dishes and ensured our water glasses were full. We enjoyed bantering with our waitress. We thoroughly enjoyed the menu, sharing small plates. Wonderful local cuisine, wines and talent. We tried to go back the next night with no luck as there would have been an hour wait. Be sure to make reservations people as this is a small local restaurant with amazingly original ambiance, a great owner and an antique store next door with some original antiques! I wish we had a restaurant like this in Vancouver.

We had left another restaurant because of bad service after the appies and arrived at the Local Restaurant willing to give this new restaurant a shot. Wow, what a difference. Excellent, attentive staff. Great menu, wine and food. We will be back for more and also for the patio when the weather is warm. Kudos to this new restaurant and for hiring great staff.

Terrible - Too Bad
Submitted Friday, April 4, 2008 - 6:59pm [Dine in]

We went to Ferris to have a wonderful meal. I used to live in Victoria about 5 years ago and would frequent Ferris quite often. Unfortunately, it has really changed. The service was TERRIBLE. So terrible that we left after the appetizers. We sat in the back patio portion of the restaurant and were never given the choice of sitting inside or out. We were seated beside a large party of people that were having a blast. When they left, the servers cleaned off their table and did nothing but complain about the group of people and the fact that they were REGULARS every Saturday. We were sitting there listening to this with our mouths open.

We had ordered drinks to start with and a party at our table got up to go look for the server because it was taking so long when she came back and our party said, "Oh, there you are. I was just coming to see because we would love to order." Her reply was, "Yeah, you and everyone else." Not a good attempt at being funny. We have a great sense of humour. The moral of the story is. We left, and as we were leaving heard. "Oh, I am so glad those people left!" Wow. We were a low maintenance table and were prepared to spend some serious coin. We left and went to the Local restaurant to have a wonderful evening!
