What's the hype?
Submitted Tuesday, February 9, 2010 - 11:52pm [Dine in]

Went to Marcello this past weekend..

FOOD: Ordered pizza with ham, salame, cheese, mushroom, onion. It was pretty good but overhyped. I'll keep looking for better pizza elsewhere. We also had carbonara and creamy meat sauce pasta.. Both were good, but a little too rich and creamy(what do you expect, I guess). A friend ordered the calamari platter and it was downright terrible, however. The squid were limp and greasy and disgusting to eat. drinks werepretty good though.

SERVICE: decent service, friendly and attentive waiter.

AMBIANCE: really nice place, busy but not so loud that you can't hear others above the noise.

I don't think I'll be returning though, for these prices. Just not worth it.

Nice surprise after following dinehere reviews.

I noticed this place got some pretty good reviews, and since I'm always on the lookout for a good sushi place decided to give it a go tonight. I'd say the value is great-- my boyfriend and I ordered a dinner bento box (chicken teriyaki, salad, tempura, 5 pc sashimi, miso soup) and 1 california roll and 1 dynamite roll. We were both stuffed and we're pretty big eaters. The bill only came out to about $19 dollars(not including tip). The cali roll is one of the better ones I've had, dynamite roll was not AS good but still OK. Chicken teriyaki needed a little more sauce but that was quickly resolved. Tempura was nice and crisp, not as good as others I've had, but still ok. It was an enjoyable meal overall.

Wait staff is very friendly, no complaints there.

My only complaint would be the TV didn't do anything for the ambiance (Seinfeld at a restaurant?) and the music wasn't too great (mostly rap/hip hop).

But if you're in the mood for some decent-good sushi at a cheap price this is it!

disappointing, but what can you expect..
Submitted Thursday, January 21, 2010 - 1:16pm [Dine in]

When I came here last week, the place was basically empty- which should have tipped me off. The sashimi platter was really disappointing. We complained about the portion size + quality of the fish and they basically did nothing and made some lame excuse. Definitely not coming back!! The food is way too overpriced for what it is... esp. with the amount of competition they have on campus.

you could find better sushi (and service) elsewhere.

First off, we had HORRIBLE service here for lunch. Maybe it was an off-day.. they forgot to bring our drinks, they forgot our food order TWICE, then came back to the table 20 minutes later to inform us that they no longer had what we ordered. Yet, 10 minutes later, they give us what we ordered. I suspect they said that just to buy some time and then "SURPRISE" they had it after all and we "should" be happy about that, right? .....No. The server also gave my friend the wrong order. We had to ask for the bill as well..... surprisingly horrible service, given its prime location on alberni. Anyway, the food was decent. Really, just like any other sushi place I've been to, and not worth it given the service. I was surprised by how relatively cheap the food was, I was expecting astronomical prices so I was pleasantly surprised by that ($60 for 3 people). I do suggest going elsewhere for lunch/dinner.

okay i guess

Went there just today cuz of the good reviews. I'd say its DECENT for its location- I'm sure you could find similar food for similar prices in Richmond. I had the beef brisket noodle soup which was alright, and my boyfriend had spicy beef brisket noodle soup (decent). The brisket was not too tender- somewhat fatty. The noodles were nice and chewy. Soup was decent. Bubbletea was definitely NOT good (strawberry green tea with coconut jelly). They're priced pretty similarly to most bubbletea places, with similar service (indifferent servers with subpar english skills). I guess my expectations were high cuz of the reviews but really its just your typical taiwanese food place. It's nicer inside than most bubbletea places though, I guess.

One of the better HK style cafes I've been to.
Submitted Monday, July 13, 2009 - 3:29am [Dine in]

I might have been a little generous with my ratings, but thats because with HK style cafes I think this is as good as it gets. very clean, decent service.. best of all is the food!! i've only had the pork chop on spaghetti (i order it every time i come) but it seems like the other dishes are good as well. i think its great value for the price.. if you're not looking for anything too fancy this fits the bill.

ONLY good thing- korean bbq with rice
Submitted Saturday, July 11, 2009 - 11:51pm [Dine in]

First of all, I have to say- this is NOT a korean place. I am Korean, and this is more of a korean-influenced chinese place. the most authentic thing would be the meat in the korean bbq with rice dish (which itself is not too authentic but hey, it tastes damn good). i would go back here for the korean bbq with rice for sure!! however, I ordered a kimchi hot pot once and it was terrible- sour, unappetizing, disgusting. you would be better off going to a real korean place and paying the extra couple dollars for the real deal.

Service: absolutely terrible. they are so bitter and unhelpful- I told one that I did not want the aforementioned hot pot (since it tasted terrible) and the attitude i got was basically "its your fault for ordering it"... but I didn't expect to be served something totally disgusting!

waffles & lattes are delish.
Submitted Wednesday, December 24, 2008 - 9:08pm [Dine in]

love the waffles. the lavendar milk chocolate sauce was to die for!! creamy and soothing... same goes for the lattes :) great unique flavour combinations.

I would have given this place a much higher rating had I been satisfied with my other orders. I had a pork sandwich on one occasion (didn't even want to finish it- unappetizing taste) and on another occasion I tried the fricasse. not to say the fricasse was horrible, but it was certainly wanting. i just wasnt satisfied.. I guess I'm just more of an old-fashioned sausage and eggs kind of girl when it comes to breakfast food. my friend had the cassoulet (again, unappetizing) and granola with yogurt (nothing to write home about).

I would definitely go again since i live conveniently closeby, and the waffles and hot drinks are worth the trip. :)

must agree with the others - not as good as it used to be!
Submitted Wednesday, December 24, 2008 - 8:55pm [Dine in]

I used to love this place.. they had the best meat out of all other ramen places I tried.. but now I find that everything just tastes bland. i usually have the miso ramen.. the flavour is much too mild.. the meat is also flavourless.. what happened!! :( servers are nice and i sorta like how most seats are at the counter (although it calls for a lack of privacy). I honestly don't think I will be coming back, seeing as there are other ramen places in close proximity.

my favourite pho place by far!!
Submitted Monday, December 22, 2008 - 9:08pm [Dine in]

I used to live close by so I would visit very often, but now that I live downtown I always get cravings for their pho. =( but its always one of the first places I visit when I go back to langley! this is honestly the best pho I've ever had, and i've had a lot of pho!! their broth is like no other.. but I must admit the portion sizes have gone down over the last few years. its still great though. the salad and spring rolls are also delicious. they give you this sauce with the bean sprouts, and I don't know WHAT it is but its sooo addictive and great for dipping meat into.

the restaurant itself is pretty large and a lot cleaner and less shabby than what you typically expect from a pho place. I think its a family owned place. they are really friendly =)

in fact, I am going here tonight. muahaha.
