Sultan's Delicious Donair, The1196 Lansdowne Drive, #108, Coquitlam
Solid Food
Submitted Wednesday, September 28, 2011 - 12:59pm [Dine in]

I have been here a few times since it has opened. I have never been disappointed. I usually get the chicken donair but have also tried the beef. The meat is always very juicy and delicious. They are also not stingy on filling. My boyfriend got the Sultan Siza and couldn't even finish it! And can he ever eat! The ambiance is nothing to rave about. The huge tv is kind of strange as well. The service is fine. My only complaint regarding the service is that the women working behind the counter are not friendly and don't look very happy to be there!

I love this place. The soups are fantastic. I love the fact that they let you try all the soups before you make a decision. I would much rather spend my money on great homemade food for a great price in a mom and pop shop as opposed to Subway across the street. The bread served with the sandwiches are fantastic as well. I always find myself going back to the cream of mushroom. It is just so delicious!

Ewwwwwwwww
Submitted Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - 12:01pm [Dine in]

I used to go to the Sui Sha Ya in Coquitlam until they noticably got either a new chef or new management a couple years ago. It went so down hill. I recently went to the one in Metrotown and it was DISGUSTING! We had the AYCE and absolutely regreted it. Everything was so old, overcooked, undercooked, anything but edible. Even for the cheap price of $11 it was not worth getting food poisoning and losing my appetite for "all I could eat." The service was crap too. Clearly favoring customers. Unless you can't give up the cheap price or have an iron stomach, spend the extra money and go down the street across from Coquitlam Centre and get MUCH better, actually edible sushi, and a warm greeting from Nagano.

Good Pizza and Wings
Submitted Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - 11:51am [Dine in]

They have great wings. Very saucy which I love. The only downfall is that they seem to run out of wings fast on Tuesday when they have their deals. It also takes them quite a long time to make pizza/wings when you are waiting in the restaurant. Deffinetly worth the wait if you have the time though. The food and prices are quite good if you are looking for a change from the average Panago, Dominos, Pizza Hut etc.

My Go-To Sushi Joint
Submitted Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - 11:29am [Dine in]

I go to this sushi restaurant on a regular basis as it is so close to home. I really enjoy the majority of what I have tried. I have tried quite a few sushi restaurants but have not had any real Japanese sushi to compare with so this review is good for the average Tri-City citizen looking for some Canadianized sushi. The California Rolls are not very good but the portions for the rolls are plenty. You get twice as much in one roll than you would get anywhere else. Especially compared to Nagano. My favorite roll is the avocado and kappa roll which I crave on a regular basis. Their spicy salmon roll is very different from the average Tri-City sushi joint spicy salmon roll. It wasn't really up my alley as they used their own kind of spicy sauce as opposed to wasabi. Their miso soup and sunomono salad is good. All in all I haven't heard any complaints about the taste of the food from any of my friends or boyfriend who have eaten there regularly as well. The only negative I have is that we ordered some edamame about a month ago and when we opened the container it had a dead fly in it. Not very appetizing but when we called them to let them know they offered us a $20 credit. The next time we ordered take-out from there we ordered 2 servings of edemame and only received 1. After letting them know they were very apologetic and gave us another $20 store credit. Everything seems to be quite fresh and I will continue to go to this restaurant even if its just for the avocado and kappa roll. DELICIOUS!

Frog & Nightgown Pub1125 Falcon Drive, Coquitlam
Average Local Pub
Submitted Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - 10:03am [Dine in]

I have only been to this pub a couple times and have had very different experiences both times. The service is great as it seems the majority of the waitress' have been there for a long time. Nothing to rave about the ambiance. Basically what you would expect from a local pub. It is deffinetly geared towards an older crowd however. It is very rare to see anyone under the age of 30 in there. Their regular pub food is quite good including their sandwiches, burgers, soups, etc. However, the last time I was there I tried the butter chicken. Shame on me for going to an Irish geared pub and ordering Indian food. It was not good. They tried to make it different and unique by adding a mango and apple chutney to it but it was cold and the flavors clashed. They should stick to what they know and leave the Indian food to an Indian restaurant. Or at least stick to the basics.

Delicious
Submitted Wednesday, June 16, 2010 - 1:22pm [Dine in]

I was very excited to see that they decided to bring The Keg back to Coquitlam. It is a very nicely built and decorated restaurant. I have been to a few locations in Canada and the teryaki serloin never disappoints. The crab legs are also very good.I havn't ventured away from the teryaki serloin but seen as how its so good I don't see a reason to!

Basic Chain Restaurant
Submitted Wednesday, June 16, 2010 - 1:15pm [Dine in]

I have been to this restaurant many many times in the past years. Their pasta is what you would expect from a Boston Pizza and their prices are a little steep for some items but it is open very late which is a bonus. THE PEROGIE PIZZA IS DELICIOUS! It is quite expensive for a pizza from a family restaurant but deffinetly worth it every once in a while.

Never had a problem...
Submitted Wednesday, June 16, 2010 - 1:08pm [Dine in]

I have been going to this Cactus Club quite a few times over the years. Although it isn't a perfect 5 restaurant there is nothing to complain about. Their broccoli cheese soup is delicious and everything else that I have tried has been quite good as well. If you are looking for something more hip then the many mom and pop restaurants and boring chains within Coquitlam and Port Moody I would recommend this restaurant.

Disappointing
Submitted Wednesday, June 16, 2010 - 1:03pm [Dine in]

I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant as I have heard so much hype about it and I am a self-proclaimed pastaholic. My sister and I decided to try it out around 9 pm on a weekday. I expected to wait in line because I have driven past it many times and there has been a line up out the door. Luckily we were sat within 15-20 minutes of waiting. After waiting 15 minutes for someone to aknowledge our presence we were finally introduced to our "lovely" waitress who seemed like she could have possibly been the owner. She proceeded to mock me as I struggled through some of the Italian words on the menu. I let that slide as I was there to enjoy dinner with my sister. When we received our food my sister (who has a lactose sensitivity) noticed that there was cheese in her pasta sauce eventhough there was none mentioned on the menu. She called over our waitress and explained to her that she was very sorry and that she could not eat it. Our waitress continued to belittle my sister explaining to her in a very rude tone that "all of their sauces have cheese in them and my sister should have told her to begin with that she couldnt eat cheese". My sister tried to explain that nowhere on the menu does it state that there is cheese in every sauce. After the conversation started to get heated the waitress finally took the dish away to the back to make one without cheese. While standing at the back of the restaurant our waitress continued to mock my sister with fellow waiters and the cooks. The service alone has turned me off of this restaurant. I cannot give a fair evaluation of the food as I was getting a cold and was not able to taste much of anything. Eventhough part of their "value" is giving you rediculously large portion sizes, I think it is unnecessary as they should concentrate more on the value of the food itself. I would get take out from this restaurant in the future but would not deal with the service, line ups, and very tight tables (we were basically sharing a table with the people sitting beside us).
