Delicious food with a great atmosphere
Submitted Sunday, June 6, 2010 - 4:02pm [Dine in]

First off i'd like to say i strongly disagree with the last reviewer about this place being poor food quality and all his fusion fuss. It's not a fusion of anything. It's genuine vietnamese food with a CHAU twist! The CHAU family is well known to run a few of the most long standing and successful restaurants in this city. They are so successful because their food is delicious.

It's not your typical pho joint by any means, great drinks alcoholic or non...very good! Lychee Martini..delicious! or the artichoke tea on cold and rainy day....yummy so soothing! Yes it may be a little pricey for those that think that because it's "vietnamese cuisine" but in reality it's not at all. If you'd prefer to be on hastings in the hole in the wall places to save a few bucks...go for it, but you are paying for the atmosphere here and it IS on robson...hello! people have to pay their rent somehow. I have tried almost every item on their menu, but i do have my favourites. The pho is clean, delicious, fresh, and so flavourful, rice paper rolls are so good too. Those are my staples there.

Service is pretty good too...although when it's busy can be a bit slow, but that's expected of any establishment. Keep rocking!!

AMAZING SERVICE! GREAT atmosphere! DELICIOUS food!
Submitted Sunday, June 6, 2010 - 2:38pm [Dine in]

I came here the other night with my friend and we had the most amazing service from beginning to end! They were so accomodating and even though it was packed house, gave us the best seats in the place. The place had a very good vibe to it.

We shared a bottle of wine and got some complimentary champagne. The oysters were awesome and we both had the sablefish that was so yummy! Moist and oh so flavourful. The dessert was super good too! I definately will be back and would highly recommend this place to anybody!! 5 STARS all the way!!

Was just alright.
Submitted Saturday, June 5, 2010 - 12:18am [Dine in]

I came here the other night with a few friends for some drinks and appetizers. The ambience was good and the place was half empty. It has a very large open space, with cool mirrors hung from the ceiling which made the place feel even bigger.

We shared a bottle of wine while a couple others had tea and beers. We also ordered a couple appetizers as well. Bison Carpaccio(delicious) and the poutine (not so good). The whole time the server came over and asked over and over again if we wanted to order anything else or more wine. We felt very rushed and like we had to keep ordering drinks and food in order to stay there. All in all...not such a bad experience, but i don't think i will return again.

DELICOUS and so worth the wait!
Submitted Friday, November 27, 2009 - 12:13am [Dine in]

I came here for the first time the other night with a few others and saw that the place was so packed on a cold and rainy night, we had an hour and half wait! I thought to myself this place better be good if i'm going to be waiting this long. We sat in the small, but cozy lounge/bar area and shared some wine while the servers always brought delicious appetizers around for everyone! What a great idea!

When we finally were seated, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! It's pretty dark in there so i kind of found it difficult to even make out my friends faces, but either than that the place seemed pretty neat. Service was fabulous with constant chai refills, rice top ups and fresh nan bread. Will definately be back and recommend this place to anybody.

Quick lunch fix
Submitted Friday, October 9, 2009 - 3:08am [Dine in]

Been here many, many , many times, but always for pick up, when im starving at lunch and bored with the other restaurants in kits. It's quick and fairly priced for their lunch specials.

Connie the owner is sweet and always makes small talk to her customers and her husband is in the back cooking and occasionally comes out for a peak and smiles at the customers.

The food is ok...it's definately more catered to the caucasians that don't really know what real chinese food is supposed to taste like. RIce is usually super dry and almost hard, but the food is always super saucy so you can moisten it with that i guess.

I'd say go if you're hungry and want something quick, but that's about it. Nothing special.

mMmMm..chicken!
Submitted Friday, October 9, 2009 - 2:58am [Dine in]

I frequently come to nando's as it's on my way home from work, it's convenient if i want something quick and usually made the way i like. The reason i say usually is that when i order..i always specifically ask for EXTRA EXTRA hot and i always repeat this a couple times so they know to the tell the cooks. I'd say 50% of the time they make it as spicy as i like but the other half not so much...that's pretty much my only complaint.

Service is always prompt and friendly, owner seems like a pretty cool guy too. But i guess he has to be to the customers, but i've seem him get mad at his employees a few times too, i guess more so frustrated when training new employees. Pretty much everytime i go there is a new girl at the front in training.

It's fairly priced too, not cheap and not to expensive. I'll keep coming, just wish the chicken was consistently the same in spicyiness! One can only wish!!

Nice looking restaurant/ok food
Submitted Friday, March 27, 2009 - 10:16pm [Dine in]

So they other night some friends and I decided to go to pinkys. It was quite busy, i liked the vibe when we walked in and the decor is fantastic. Anyways, we couldn't get a table right away so were seated at the bar, where we had a great view of the scantily clad waitresses. We had a little trouble ordering drinks as the little asian waitress was too busy checking her blackberry instead of serving customers. NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL! After the a couple drinks at the bar we were seated at a table and we ordered our food. All of our dishes were ok, nothing spectacular, but decent.

Again i loved the decor, great ambience, but as for service not very good and the food just ok.

Will probably return because apparently this is the new "it" place in kits.

Delicious food and great atmosphere!
Submitted Friday, March 20, 2009 - 9:04pm [Dine in]

A friend and I went for lunch there today. It wasn't planned, but was one of the only places that was actually opened at 3pm for lunch. The service was great, not sure if it was because we were the only ones in there, but whatever our waitress was sweet.

The food, not your typical greek food, but with a twist. I had the lamb chops with roasted potatoes and my friend had the fish(something) oops i forgot. We had the greek fries as a starter....can you say DELICIOUS!!! Everything we had was so tasty.

I loved the look inside, very modern but cozy...totally my style. Loved it and will definately return. 2 thumbs up!!

I was taken here by a friend who wanted me to try something different. We went on a quiet night, there were only about a few other people in there so service was prompt. Our server explained the items in the menu quite thoroughly. The food did take longer than expected but was quite good. Everything was quite tasty and it was really neat and different to be eating everything with your hands.

The decor was different. Lots of giraffe statues everywhere. Would definately return again.

Ughh! Try it if you dare!
Submitted Sunday, March 8, 2009 - 2:10am [Dine in]

Went there on a late friday night...everywhere else seemed so busy and was craving a bowl of pho. I've driven by many times and had seen the place for years so thought hey why not check it out.

Walked in with my partner and I, and looked around at the outdated decor of fake flowers and plants and thought oh no, but still wanted to give it a chance. Besides, i wasn't there for the ambience, there for the pho. Friday evening, farely large restaurant and one guy sitting there waiting for his food. Uh-oh what are we in for? So we both ordered a bowl of pho...came out omg disgusting! No taste whatsoever and they didn't even have fresh peppers!!! what vietnamese restaurant doesn't have fresh peppers! Also ordered the crepe as an appetizer and out came a thick disgusting battered thing filled with soggy vegetables! GROSS!

We had to flag down and say excuse me about 6 times before the waitress even heard, she was too busy flirting with the one customer she had in there....before we could get our bill and get the heck out of there.

Definately would NEVER recommend anybody going there and will never return no matter how hungry i am. Now i know why there was one man sitting there all by his lonesome on a friday evening. YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! Don't know how they've managed to stay in business for that long.

Japanese Izakaya at it's finest! Little intimate setting where the food is grilled right in front of you! They have little skewers ranging from their meatballs that you can customize with your favourite toppings to delicious sticky rice cheese skewers. Just writing about this is making my mouth water.

Service is great and the staff are always smiling and happy to serve you. You definately get what you pay for me. I would recommend this to anybody looking for some japanese food "izakaya" style!

The location on 4th is pretty good too. Looks like a little sweat box from outside, but nice and cozy on the inside. Pretty much the same menu, with great friendly staff too.

WORST SERVICE ever but good food!
Submitted Wednesday, February 11, 2009 - 12:20am [Dine in]

I must agree with the last guy, the food is delicious, i've been several times, but they have to do something about the service. Not once have i been there small groups and large, have i ever recieved even half decent service. The servers are rude, slow and always get something on your order wrong. It takes them about 20 mins to come take your drink order and then another 30 mins to get the drink! Anyways, I probably will be back because i love their food so much, but i really do hope they do something about the service. As for the ambience, it's a really cool vibe in there. Nice place to go out for dinner and drinks with friends.

Delicious thai food
Submitted Friday, February 6, 2009 - 3:19am [Dine in]

Been coming here for years now and the food is always consistently good. Especially their special basil chicken thai fried rice. This is one of the only thai places that make my food as spicy as i want! Their tom yum soup is extra delicious too!

Service is always good as this place is never really busy...don't understand why because the food is so good. Maybe because it's a little overpriced for what you get and the ambience is just not really there. They do need an update on their decor, but the place is so huge it would probably cost a fortune. Owner is always present and wife is in the back cooking. Very pleasant family. Will keep going there for years to come.

Cafe Crepe is way better
Submitted Friday, February 6, 2009 - 3:14am [Dine in]

Little crepe joint that calls themself french when it's run by an iranian family. Super stingy on all toppings. Little shreds of cheese and barely any meat. Even cheap on bananas. They barely even use the real nutella, usually give you the cheap PC chocolate spread. I've been there a few times...hoping it will be better, but meh nothings changed.

Go to cafe crepe...much much better. Service is better and loads of toppings on whatever crepe you order. As for value...well their prices are higher than crepe cafe and you get way less food. BLAH!!

I've been going to this place for years now...and hands down the best izakaya ever!! All of the dishes are yummy...ALL!! and their drinks yummmmmy! especially their strawberry milk. You have to try it! My two most fave dishes are the yakiudon and the chicken cartilage...mmMMm. Usually long waits during peak times, but definately worth it. Loud, but always fun...staff are upbeat and friendly. Great place to enjoy great food and cool drinks!

MMmmm Spaghetti!
Submitted Thursday, January 29, 2009 - 11:20am [Dine in]

Not a huge fan of spaghetti or italian food for that matter, but this place by far makes the best "spaghetti Quattro". I really go for that, but a very nice appy to go with i'd say is the beef carpaccio. The service is always good, definately no complaints there. As for value, it's fairly priced, although some of the items are bit overpriced. I will be back again and again!!

Decent Food/Good Price
Submitted Thursday, January 29, 2009 - 11:02am [Dine in]

I've been here numerous times and it's pretty good considering all the bad sushi joints out there. Nothing special or different on the menu. Basic japanese sushi and dishes. The decor is not too bad, i'd call it casual sushi dining and the service can be a hit and miss. It all depends on which server you get that night. Overall, if you're looking for something casual, quick, and yummy then this is the place to go.

Yummy Fooood!!
Submitted Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 2:30pm [Dine in]

I always find myself waking up to days of craving Bao Chau pho. It's the best pho in the city. I really mean it! They have others things on the menu that are delicious too like their famous spring rolls or their pork chops on rice. Mmmmm. The service is only good if the owner is serving you, otherwise it can be off sometimes. Getting orders wrong or having to wave your arms in the air to finally get one of the servers attention. You get what you pay for and more...very good sized portions and always fresh. The place is indeed due for some renos, but that's ok i don't go for the ambience, i go for the darn good food!

I've been going to Joe's for breakfast and lunch for years now, and they have always been consistently good. The breakfast can sometimes be a little too greasy, but always generous sized portions. A great value...you always leave stuffed without spending alot of money. The service is awesome too! The girls there are awesome...you should be very proud of them Joe!!
