Memphis Blues Barbeque House1465 W. Broadway, Vancouver
Doesn't hold up to the real thing
Submitted Sunday, April 19, 2009 - 10:35pm [Dine in]

For anyone who has been to Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi or parts south, and experienced a true Pulled Pork Sandwhich, the one served at Memphis Blues is a poor imitiation, but a pleasant reminder...if that makes sense. The sandwhiches are good in their own right, just not quite what you'd expect from the originals.

The low food rating actually comes from the coleslaw, not the sandwhiches. This place isn't far from work, and I go often because I enjoy the way the interior looks and it's different from other lunch spots so it's nice to frequent when I want a change. Not too expensive as you get alot of food. But good god, if anyone that works there is listening, please change the coleslaw!!

Thank you for listening.

Great place to watch a game

I don't like to use the term regular, but I have been frequenting this establishiment recently as it's close to work for lunches. Really enjoy the sports bar/lounge side of the place. The servers are always fun to chat with and give some good service. They seem to run with too many staff at times, but I suppose they have their system worked out so who am I to argue?

Sicillian Pizza is always a favourite, although they have some nice pastas as well. I'm giving the lower rating for Ambience because of a lack of other places to rank this low....but it's really for one incident in which we were sitting on the restaurant side near the open kitchen and were nearly smoked out of the place. Their hood fans aren't strong enough for some of the grilling they do and it really ruined the experience for me. I've since made note of it several times, and avoided sitting in that area.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The4429 Sundial Place, Whistler
The usual Keg experience
Submitted Sunday, April 19, 2009 - 10:09pm [Dine in]

My friends and I went to The Keg on a recent trip to Whistler. The food was outstanding as always. I had a Crab Cheese Sirloin that was on special and the cheese/crab sauce was quite good.

We were unfortunately stuck in a back corner of the restaurant, on the top floor, away from the TV's, where we wanted to see a little bit of the hockey game. As such I have to give a poor rating for Ambience, and the prices seem to have jumped up a few notches over the years, so the Value has also dropped off quite a bit because of that.

Service was great...Jeff was the guys name I think. Beer was good. Overall a nice experience, but not worth the money we spent as they've just become so cookie-cutter.

Coza! Tuscan Grill20065 Langley Bypass, Langley
Good all-round place to eat

My wife and I have been to Coza a few times with friends from the valley. It's fairly central for us living in Richmond and them living out further. Really like some of what they've done with the place. The food is quite consistently good, if never truly great. The ambience is a little loud for my tastes, but they've gone with a very open concept so that's to be expected. Service has always been quite good, but again, never great.

I'm just happy to have a restaurant like this for us pasta lovers. They have a good mix, and their pizza's are terrific starters. The faux rock wall looks a little cheesy, but overall I really enjoy my meals at Coza.

Shady Island Seafood Bar & Grill3800 Bayview Street, #112, Richmond
Great location.....everything else is a letdown though
Submitted Sunday, July 13, 2008 - 2:34pm [Dine in]

As a long time Steveston/Richmond resident, I have watched the steady decline of Shady Island, the restaurant with clearly the best spot on the boardwalk, (at least from the road.....from the pier, there are better locations). They've let their food and their service drop to a level where they are nothing more than a disappointing tourist trap. Locals don't bother wasting their time here anymore.

I had friends in from out of town for the long weekend, and once again got sucked into going in to Shady Island when we were looking for a spot. What an incredible disappointment. I like to think I give credit where credit is due, but I can't find any reason to put any positive spin in this review. The owner has a reputation of being kid unfriendly, and the food has a reputation of being not fresh, ever. Both were lived up to on this visit. The beer was good, but it took forever to get it despite a full compliment of staff roaming around.

Disappointing yet again. There are much better restaurants with Tapenade, Correlli's and now Blue Canoe opened up. Shady won't get any more of my business.

Steveston Pizza Co.3400 Moncton Street, #100, Richmond
Best Pizza....ever
Submitted Sunday, July 13, 2008 - 2:22pm [Dine in]

Ok, so for Steveston Pizza, it really depends on what you're looking for. Sometimes you're looking for a cheesy, greasy, heart attack causing pizza. That's not what you'll find here. Organic ingredients and a different presentation than any other pizza place out there, makes this place tops on my list for pizza. Unfortunately they only have pickups, and it's hard to give a high rating for ambience when the place smells like grease, but all the more reason to take it home. I gave it a 4 just because I like the way they name their dishes a little differently than everywhere else.

I've tried a couple of pizzas, but my favourite is the Caveman, which is essentially an all meat pizza, but packed with more toppings than you'd get anywhere else, and so full of flavour. They really do a good job at not putting too much crust in lieu of toppings. The girls are always quite pleasant and the overall experience is good. I just wish they delivered, (pizza nights are lazy nights for us).

Fun place to visit for a date or a few bevies with friends.

I've been to Joey's a few times with friends, and as nice as it is inside, the patio is even nicer. Reminds me of Joe Forte's patio. Great serving staff, always friendly and alot of fun. The food is about what you'd expect from a chain restaurant, and a little different from what you'd find at Joey's in Alberta, which I find odd.

Overall, I really have enjoyed my meals at Joey's, and really enjoy the ambience. The food itself is lacking somewhat, although they have a few really great dishes. The spicy seafood pasta is excellent.
