Libra Room1608 Commercial Dr, Vancouver
All style, no substance
Submitted Friday, February 22, 2008 - 5:46pm [Dine in]

My wife and I love to dine out, and went to "The Drive" on the recomendation of some friends. We stumbled upon the Libra Room, and while I don't usually take the time to write reviews, this place compelled me to do so. Firstly, the room is lovely, however the tiny tables do not suit themselves to actually dining. We went mid-evening, and though the place was not too busy, our rather unpleasant server came to our table only after finishing her conversation on her cell and another with the bartender. When our food did arrive (40 minutes after ordering) it was decent, but average, and not only were they out of almost every wine, our server had no clue as to how to recomend one to us. As we dined to the way-too-loud house music, the smell of marijuanna filled the restaurant, and we knew that, yes, we were on Commercial Drive (or does the no smoking by-law only apply to cigarettes?).

Having read the other reviews for this place, I would have to say I agree with the consensus. While the drive has come a long way in recent years, if this place is at all representative of its offerings, then it has a LONG way to go to catch up with the rest of the city. At the prices they are charging, they need to take it up several notches to get my money again. Oh yeah, and the musicians there pass around a jar for payment. Tacky.
