How do I put this delicately? mmm...It was bad...
Submitted Monday, November 17, 2008 - 9:17am [Dine in]

I went to Sanafir with a friend on Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation so the hostess sat us on a long bench like table with ottoman chairs. First of all, the hostess didn't even acknowledge us when we walked in the door, she just kept playing with the computer. Come on, she could at least say something like "please give me a minute".

The ambiance is awesome. It's hip and trendy. Most of the clients are beautiful. If you want to see and to be seen, it's the place to be.

Let's get to the food. We ordered chicken, tuna and prawn. Out of 9 tapas, only 2 were qualified as excellent: curry prawn and tuna tartar. The rest were all blah...nothing to write home about. The prawn gyoza was so bad, I actually thought "gosh...i can't believe I put it in my mouth!" I'm not sure if it was the sauce or the prawn, it smelled weird and it was dry.

Now, the service. I felt like we were scammed by the waiter to get a bottle of still water without knowing the price. When we first sat down, the waiter just asked us "still water or sparkled?" He didn't further explain the still water he was going to give us would cost $7. He did a great job explaining how every tapa was made, but a bit over-did it.

Overall the whole dining experience was really bad. The service was good but felt pressured and pushed. The food was just...blah...., but again, it's extremely hip and trendy!

Disappointed
Submitted Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 4:59pm [Dine in]

I took my mother to COAST for Taste of Yaletown event. I've been there a few times before and always satisfied with the service and the food. But this time was different. I was so disappointed.

The tuna salad appetizer smelled weird. The fish was somewhat fresh, but has bloody smell.

The sablefish was very solid. Nothing to complain about.

The tuna tartar on chip was way too salty. In fact, most of the dishes were too salty.

But the desserts were quite nice. We got to try 2 different dessert.

Our waiter, Allen, was not unfriendly and made the whole experience even worse. We didn't expect him to chat with us or anything, but he was just cold and not attentive.

It used to be one of my favorites, but I'm not going back...EVER....

Great food, terrible services
Submitted Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 9:36am [Dine in]

First of all, food is great at Rangoli. I've been there many times and I've brought their frozen food home several times too, always been a happy customer.

The staff there are so snooty, I agree with other reviews... I don't know why...We're spending $12-15 per dish, they probably get paid $10-$15/hr?! (correct me if I'm wrong, and my apologies if I'm wrong). Just because they WORK at south Granville area doesn't mean they get to look at their customers with thier nostrils. Of course they serve you whatever you ask for but the attitude is just TERRIBLE. It's like they think they're better than you. I hope the owner reads this review so he'll stop hiring those b-i-t-c-h-e-s.

I was disappointed
Submitted Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 9:29am [Dine in]

I've heard so much about Saffron, and I finally got to go last night. Well, it was a big disappointment for me. The ambiance is great, no doubt about it. Service was alright, nothing impressive. Food was just bad last night. We had mixed grills and deep fried soft bread with curry chickpeas. The shrimps were stinky! The chicken tikka were tasteless and same with chicken tandoori. The kabobs were the same! The bread was so greasy it was unbelievable. The only thing I enjoyed was the curry chickpeas...I don't think I'll ever go back again, I'll stick with Vij's or Rangoli.

Worst service ever. Food is ok
Submitted Wednesday, December 14, 2005 - 11:01am [Dine in]

We waited for at least 15 minutes before anybody even acknowledged us at the door. Took them another 5 minutes to bring us the menus and water. After ordering, another 30-40 minutes for food. They were not attentive, not even friendly. Food was over-priced for the quality, even the quantity. Will never go back again.

Absolutely great food.

I had great experiences at Blue Water Cafe. Their sashimi is incredible. Juicy, sweet prawns and scallops, every piece of fish has distinct flavour. Ahi tuna, sea bass and oysters are wonderful too. Service is attentive. Can't complain. Try as many items on the dessert manu if you get the chance, they're fantastic.

It's just OK
Submitted Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 10:56am [Dine in]

My boss recommended this restaurant. She doesn't even cook, I guess that's why she doesn't know what she's talking about.
The Locus' service is absolutely poor. It was like we were invisible. Waited for 10 minutes for water.
Food is alright, a bit unusual, can't even say it's good.
Will I ever go back? NO!
