I went to Sanafir with a friend on Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation so the hostess sat us on a long bench like table with ottoman chairs. First of all, the hostess didn't even acknowledge us when we walked in the door, she just kept playing with the computer. Come on, she could at least say something like "please give me a minute".
The ambiance is awesome. It's hip and trendy. Most of the clients are beautiful. If you want to see and to be seen, it's the place to be.
Let's get to the food. We ordered chicken, tuna and prawn. Out of 9 tapas, only 2 were qualified as excellent: curry prawn and tuna tartar. The rest were all blah...nothing to write home about. The prawn gyoza was so bad, I actually thought "gosh...i can't believe I put it in my mouth!" I'm not sure if it was the sauce or the prawn, it smelled weird and it was dry.
Now, the service. I felt like we were scammed by the waiter to get a bottle of still water without knowing the price. When we first sat down, the waiter just asked us "still water or sparkled?" He didn't further explain the still water he was going to give us would cost $7. He did a great job explaining how every tapa was made, but a bit over-did it.
Overall the whole dining experience was really bad. The service was good but felt pressured and pushed. The food was just...blah...., but again, it's extremely hip and trendy!
