Mahek Restaurant9470 120 St., Surrey
Meal was ok
Submitted Sunday, March 20, 2011 - 12:57pm [Take-out]

The meal we had was a good standard indian meal. Nothing spectacular and is good for a first timer. For my family, we have experienced better tasting indian meals. Mahek is acceptable,, but we woiuld rather go elsewhee for better value and taste. Mahek sells tandoori chicken on full and half portions. A customer would think a full portion would be a full chicken and a half ;portion would be hal\f a chicken. No! A full portion is only 4 thighs and 4 drumsticks and half chickn is half of that. It was sort of disappointing when I had a party of 8 people and could only serve one piece to each person. I think the restaurant should make that clear and not deecevie their customers. Not happy at all!

Pretty Good Western Style Chinese Food
Submitted Saturday, January 2, 2010 - 12:41pm [Dine in]

I like my authentic traditional Chinese food, but in Squamish you will not find anything close to what Vancouver/Richmond has. I had my fare share of Western Style Chinese meals as a kid so to me that was fun food, like MacDonalds. Western/Chinese food is what you'll get in Squamish and Lotus Garden makes it very well. The restaurant is clean but old. Looks like 1970's decor with a mix of 1980's furniture. We ordered the lemon chicken, sweet & sour pork, deep fried prawns which were crispy even when it was at room temperature. The sauces tasted exactly as they should and flavours are well balanced. Sometimes restaurants will give you a sauce that is either too sweet or too sour (usually too sour), but Lotus Gardens makes it just right. We ordered the Beef and Broccoli, chow mein which were good, but not exceptional. For about $10.00 to $12.00 per plate you will get fair size portions. 3 to 4 dishes will feed 4 adults. Overall the food at Lotus Garden is consistent, fresh and satisfying. We ate at Lotus Garden 5 years ago and went back again for new years day and we were still happy with what we ordered. We'll be going there again.

Lousy Service - No Food For Big Groups
Submitted Monday, January 19, 2009 - 1:49am [Dine in]

As a family of 10, we came here for our son's birthday party. The food came along fine for the first 1/2 hour, but later we waited, waited and waited for the rest of the robata items. My sister had to walk up twice to the waitress to get our orders made, I complained and we still didn't get the rest of order. I think the restaurant took us for a ride...take our money, but don't feed the customers. I checked the other tables with smaller parties and their tables were full of food. If someone saw our table, they may have thought we were done, but no...we were still hungry. The manager pretended nothing was wrong and kept smiling and didn't address the issue. No wonder this was our first visit after 20 years. We won't go there again. Only fools who would pay all you can eat for crappy service and food would go there.
