Good but precooked, overcooked pasta is not acceptable in an italian restaurant.
Submitted Thursday, January 14, 2016 - 11:14am [Dine in]

I went there a couple days ago for lunch. I have been there before and had their porchetta sandwich which is very good (meat and bread is still better). I had there pasta once (gnocchi) which I wasn't overly impressed. The place is cute reminds me of a typical osteria you see in Italy. I was there with a friend and I ordered the soup and my friend ordered rigatoni pasta with a cream mushroom sauce. The soup was very filling and good but the pasta was average at best. You could tell that the pasta was precooked and overcooked. This in my opinion is unacceptable in an Italian restaurant or maybe I am spoiled. The sauce in the pasta was good but with overcooked pasta it took away from an otherwise good experience. Campinolos Roma on Hasting still my favorite. I saw a pizza come out of the oven and it look good. I will be back but only for the sandwiches and to try to pizza. The place was busy and the service was good.

Burgers and fries are not made on premises.
Submitted Friday, January 1, 2016 - 1:41pm [Dine in]

When I think of a burger place I expect burger and fries made on premises. The burger and fries are both bought ready to cook. If I remember Wallys on Kingsway everything was made on premises. How can I place that specializes on burgers by the patties already done.
The place is nice and the service is good but the food tastes average at best. There is so much sauce its hard not to get dirty. The shakes are made from scratch and are good.

The owner loves to talk.
Submitted Monday, August 3, 2015 - 6:12pm [Dine in]

Was there today with a few of my friends. One of my friends is a poutine junkie and really wanted to go to this place. I remember this place from commercial drive but didn't remember the food only the owner that appeared to be selling a used car when talking about his food.
As soon as I walked into this place dejavu, it was him again. Our conversation from 5 years ago was no longer was a bad memories but reality. Don't get me wrong he is not a bad guy but there is so much you can hear why his product was amazing and everyone else is bad. After the way we were talking we were expected a food explosion in our mouth instead all we received was an explosion of our wallet.
A small plate of normal poutine was $9. It not too bad but nothing special. The montreal smoked meat was also average but really pricey. I had a sandwich, beer and poutine that came to $35. If I am ever craving smoked meat or poutine I will jump in my car and drive right past this place. Overpriced, average and you leave with a headache listing to the owner. All four of us left the place unsatisfied with no intention of returning.

I never knew pizza could taste like cardboard.
Submitted Tuesday, December 10, 2013 - 12:03pm [Take-out]

I have never eat before at Little Georges and decided to give it a go. Yesterday we were watching Monday night football and decided to try it out. We ordered 3 pizza that came to close to $60. We order two specialty pizza and one normal one. Its was completely burned and tasted awful. What a waste of money. It was like cardboard.
Never order there again. I cant stand it when a greek place trys to pretend it knows what pizza is all about. They ruin the experience of what real pizza actually is. Rather go to the grocery store and get frozen pizza.

Bad service, expensive and smells of arrogence.
Submitted Monday, October 28, 2013 - 8:22am [Dine in]

The food is pretty good but extremely expensive. The service is horrible. All my friends that used to rave about this place are now no longer going. Maybe its a change of manager or the place is feeling too comfortable.
The tempura is very unique and tasty, but small portions at $12 is way overpriced. Its took us two hours just to have lunch because the sushi chef kept leaving his station to either smoke or go to the bathroom. When I got up and talk to the bald headed sushi chef he said he was one of the manager. I said why is it taking so long and he said very arrogant and didn't even respond. Four people without alcohol was $90 for lunch.
Go to Sushi Nori is much better.

Penny's Palapa10 Wharf Street, Nanaimo
Great location, horrible food and owner
Submitted Sunday, October 27, 2013 - 4:25pm [Dine in]

I was there a few months ago and thought maybe my experience was unique. I talked to many people and they all agreed with me. The owner Penny doesn't respect any of her clients. She has her dog in the restaurant and when you mention to the servers they don't seem to care.
I decided to give this place a try since I read a lot of good reviews. The location is great right on the water. I decided to try there so called famous fish tacos. My friends also had the fish tacos and we all said the same thing the fish was cold and it had a bad fish smell. I couldn't even finished it and when I mentioned it to the waitress the so called owner Penny came by. She was rude and said tough that's how we serve it and the halibut was fresh. Once of my friends works in the fisheries and said there is no way that fish was fresh. I soon found out they were closing in the next few weeks for the seasons so odds are they were trying to clear out the stock rather than throw it out.
They place is full of fruit flys (since its outside), dog was eating in the restaurant and it is quite dirty and run down. To top it off the owner who is close to 70 must be losing her marbles.
If you want to be treated badly, eat bad food and pay a lot for it then maybe you should check this place out. Other than that I would go to Ginas better quality food and good service.

Great service, average food, horribly over priced!

I have been eating at a lot of sushi places around Vancouver with guests from Europe. I was told that you had to try this place because there sushi was great. So I went there as soon as I walked in I knew where all the yuppies hang out. The service was very good the place is nice but no nicer than any earls or cactus club. We ordered the tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi, lobster roll, some sort of dynamite roll amongst other sushi.. One of the guess ordered a 12 ounce tenderloin ($65), I eat a lot of sushi and it is properly over prices by 50-70% of what it should be. It is good but no different than most average sushi places in Vancouver that charge even half as much. There prices for baked fish was very expensive. Even having a fish tower at $126. 5 out of the 6 people ate sushi and with the steak and 1 drink each the final bill was $270, with tip it was $310. We all left hungery and when down the road to the keg was a big piece of Billy Miner pie.
I would not return. I didn't think the sushi was great, and very overpriced. But if you like place full of narrow minded people in suites this may be the place for you.

Lots of hype. So expensive!!
Submitted Saturday, May 25, 2013 - 2:13pm [Dine in]

I finally got to try this place out. Is the ice cream good? Yes but its not great. Its the most expensive gelato I have ever bought. $7.50 for cone with two scoops? Are they insane. I have had gelato in Italy over 100 times and they would be 5% compare to the gelato in Italy.
Most place that are good charge you $4 for gelato and two scoop no this crazy $7. To make matters worst she messed up my flavor but I was already in my car when I realized. Anyways the gelato is good but not great but overprices by at least 50-70%.

I guess its is what is expected when you hire unqualified kids to work in the kitchen. My friend send me there last year. To be honest other than being a bit expensive the burgers are quite flavourful. I know they get there meat from Coiffis which is the best meat in town. I have been there at least ten times and decided to go for breakfast last month. I am a huge eggs benny fan and when I ordered it I told the waitress that make sure the eggs are not fully cooked. Sure enough they came fully cooked and the waitress did a great job and noticed right away and came back with a new order. The eggs were a little undercooked but it was quite good. I was there once again today and explained to the waitress what happened last time. This time the breakfast after a long wait and the waitress explained that they had to cook my eggs again because they were hard boiled. The she came with french fries and the eggs were so undercooked cold and looks quite raw. I asked her what with the french fries and she explained they ran out of normal potatoes. My first though was the cooks don't know how to make breakfast potatoes. When I showed her the eggs she was surprised and agreed that the eggs were so uncooked the white as all water. I explained to her that I didn't want french fries and she came back with a new order of eggs benny. Guess what these eggs were so over cooked the color of the yolk was light yellow. I finally had enough so told her I didn't want it and wasn't impressed that the cooks don't know how to make medium eggs. I called my friend who we were planning on having a party in April at the location in Yaletown for around 15 people that I wanted to make it a different place. So we decided to book at the keg instead.
Maybe where they decide to hire cooks that can make potatoes and medium eggs but until then I cant support this place. Its not that great and as I stated you get what you pay for.

Horrible!!!! Precooked soggy pasta! The negative reviews are correct, wish I read it sooner.
Submitted Monday, January 14, 2013 - 8:04pm [Dine in]

I havent been here for years. Craving pasta and decided to go to Nicks. The experience was awful!! The pasta was precooked overcooked and awful. The service is also horrible. I should have know something when they were almost empty. I sat there and barely ate my food waiting for the waitress to come for almost 20 minutes. After 20 minutes I finally had to go to her and say how bad it was.The waitress didnt care and said thats the way we make our pasta but check out the other reviews. Its one thing paying for a good plate of food but paying $21 for a place of crap is another.
Poor Nick I know he is older now but this is not what he had before. Its time to eithr burn this place down and close it forever. The memory of this place is are going downhill. If you dont beleive me check it out yourself.

Once I recieved the pizza I never heard from the waitress until after we were done. I also was shocked they dont have espesso or cappuccino.
When I came time to pay I paid by interact. On the machine I pressed yes for tip and out came an option for 15%, 18% or 20%, I cant stand when an establishment tellls you what to tip. I will avoid this place in the future. I wasnt overly impressed with the service so I only want to leave 10%, So thats all I left.

I dont know why Greeks think they know how to cook Pasta? Have you ever been to an italian owned restaurant and eating souvlaki or Mousaka? Craving Greek style Pizza which is fattening full of cheese and nothing like Italian.
Ordered pizza tonight it wasnt bad but they charge a fuel surcharge to deliver? Thats enough for me to never go there again. Who does that go to the delivery driver or the restaurant? Do they think we are stupid? Fuel surcharge to deliver pizza. I saw the owner on you have to eat here and think its time he retires.

Craving beef ribs last night and never been to thie place decided to give it a try. Stevenston is a far drive from where I live and we got there at 630. There was a sign that said they have a private party at last order will be taken at 7. Private party on a Saturday horrible business decision in my opinion. When I asked for seating for two they said the only thing available was outside even though there were seats inside. I guess they were saving them for the private party. Once I sat outside it was cold because you are close to the water. My friend started with an order of chili, he order the platter with pulled pork with pork ribs I order the beef ribs.
His chili arrived first with a piece of corn bread. My friend let me try it, the chili was really bad the corn bread was nice and warm. Finally 45 minutes after order our main course came. The beef ribs portion was huge I had it with corn bread and fries. I tryed my fries pulled pork and ribs and it was very very dry not tender at all. I only ate half of one of my beef ribs but I was too cold and asked if I could take it to go. The fries were cold and the corn bread was as well. When I got home all I found in the bad was three ribs. What happens to the fries, the corn bread and the other half rib I barely touched. I was quite disappionted. You put us outside with the plastic table and chair and now you stiff me on what I ordered. If it was good I would say ok but I willl never return there again. Service was slow food was slow and food was cold. Barbecue sauce is average at best and the chili is worse than having it in a can. The corn bread is good too bad they decided not to pack it for me. Thank goodness I didnt overtip because waiting over 45 minutes, sitting in the cold I wasnt impressed.
If you live close you may want to try it but dont go out of your way to try it.

After seeing it on TV I have been wanting to go to the Red Dragon for a long time, today was the day I finally went. I understand this place is busy so I patiently waited in line, I expected that. I was second in line with my friend and 20 minutes later another couple showed up, 5 minutes later all of us were seating at the same time. As soon as I walked in my first though was the food must be amazing because the decor and ambiance is horrible and cheap. We were seated beside the couple that was ahead of us in the line up. They brought us the menu and we looked at it, within a few minutes we were ready to order. I was going to order the eggs breakfast with the fryed pork belly ( I saw it on TV) and my friend wanted the vegeratrian omlette. 10 minute later l looked around and they were taking the order of the people that came in line with 20 minutes after us. Then 10 minutes later they took the order for the people that were ahead of us in the lineup. We had to wait another 10 minutes and had to call the waitress over to take our order. I was already upset that they took the order of the people that were behind us 20 minutes before.I was upset but didnt say anything.
20 minutes later our food showed up. My breakfast was horrible. The toast was so dry without any butter on it, the eggs were completely wrong and one was broken. Hashbrown taste like recooked mashed potatoes so not crispy at all.The pork belly was ok at best but 95% fat but I guess that the way it is.
I was so disappointed that I ddint even leave a tip. I cant believe people wait in line for ths place. its nothing special!!
All hype and very dirty. On the positive the girl that brings the water was working hard and always there to fill it up.

The service was horrible the food was horrible and value has horrible. How can you call a place Wings and have such horrible wings. I have never been to this place before and decided to give it a chance. The waitress didnt tell us about any specials that they had and not once did she ask how everything was, We ordered Nachos and I asked the waitress if they use no name cheese. She was useless when I asked her that. The reason I asked is because that cheese used mostly oil and I have trouble digesting it. Sure enough it was that crappy cheap cheese that melts like cheese whiz and not real cheese. Wings were soggy, small and lacked taste.
Its not often that you get horrible food with horrible service. I will not only never go back but I will tell people to avoid this place.

Went there tonight with a few friends. Its great to have a restaurant in a middle of an residential area. The pizza is very good, the only thing I not crazy about is cooked basil. It would be better to put the basil fresh on the pizza after it comes out of the oven.
The waitress did a great job answering all our questions. The quality of pizza has gone up in Vancouver and places like Lombardos and Marcellos have fallen way back when it comes to authentic Italian pizza. I recommend this place great service atmosphere and staff.

After seeing this place on you have to eat here I wanted to try this place. When there yesterday with two of my friends and the place was busy. Two of us ordered a burger and one of us the salmon special. After 30 minutes the salmon showed up then 30 minutes later my burger showed up and then 15 minutes later my friends burger showed up. My burger was not beef at all but more like spam all pork. I asked the waiter was was this and he said beef and pork mixture, I showed him that it was all pork and not a burger. Then another girl came and said no this is a burger I said fair enough I didnt want to argue anymore and decided to eat my thin spam sandwich that I spend $9 for. Then 10 minutes later the girl showed up again and said that I was right that the kitchen had made a mistake and it wasnt a burger but a pork patty, she offered to make me another one but after waiting an hour I said no thanks and she gave me my money back.
This place is disorginized dirty and confusing. If you want to save a dollar or two and wait a hour then it may be for you. The food is average to below average the price is average to lower the experience is awful.

Overpriced and put 20% tip on the Credit Card machine. Not good value my suggestion is to stay away!!!
Submitted Saturday, February 4, 2012 - 11:27pm [Dine in]

I went there today for brunch with a friend. We ordered eggs benedict, hamburger and two coffees for $42. This is like a pub not a five star hotel. The food was not that great and nor was the service. When it came time to pay I pulled out my credit card and when I pressed ok a 20% opinion came out. Why do servers believe they are entitled to 20%? I was not happy with the price of the food nor the value. When restaurant do that I put them instantly put them on my do not go list and make sure I tell my friends the same.
Tips are not manditory so I only left 10% because I felt that was fair.
