Why do people eat here?
Submitted Thursday, June 3, 2010 - 2:39pm [Dine in]

Don't know why people still eat here. The soup is so thick with msg that no amount of water helps. Price is cheap, but so are other pho places. I tried when they first opened. Too much msg. Tried it again recently, hoping they'd improved. Nope.. same recipe. Really too bad.

Hit & Miss

Ordered two noodle dishes - tako sunomono & beef yakisoba - among others. It was the best sunomono I've ever had! The noodle was perfect, not over done like all the other places. And I have tried this starter at every Japanese place that I go to. But the yakisoba was bad. Too oily, salty and burned. What I noticed was anything from the front (i.e sashimi and rolls) were good, but anything made from the back kitchen was bad. So beware... don't order items from the kitchen.

Santouka Ramen1690 Robson Street, Vancouver
Not worth the price
Submitted Friday, April 2, 2010 - 2:08pm [Dine in]

I already have a favourite ramen place, but there are too many positive reviews about Santouka that I had to try. First, the wait was 25 mins, then they forgot our side orders. We reminded them and so received them half way through our meal. The pork jowl was good, but after 3 bites, the soup was too salty for me to finish. My ramen alone was $14 - not worth the price!

The great ramen debate is over! The winner is Miki's. I am a noodle lover and was sooo happy when I found Miki. I have been there twice and it's delicious every time. The noodle is always done right, not soggy like the other places and the soup is not too salty or fatty. I love their roast pork appy. I can't get enough! I am going back again, but not Tuesdays. Imagine the sad droopy look on my face when I went there last Tuesday to discover that they were closed.
