Ambiance Better Than Food
Submitted Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 12:55am [Dine in]

We ate at Brown's recently. It was a warm summer night, so we sat on the patio which was very nice. The inside of the restaurant looked very inviting as well. I had a cowgirl (or was it cowboy) salad to start, which was quite bland. There was a total of TWO quarter pieces of date in it. Not much else in it either...It was pizza special night, so we had the pizza. The margherita pizza was quite tasty, although the presentation left something to be desired. My husband had some kind of bbq chicken pizza which he saidwas also tasty. All in all, an okay experience, but far from stellar. One thing which really surprised me was the bathrooms, which were clean, but tiny and with clearly no attention to detail. Very utilitarian. I might go back, but am certainly in no rush to do so. The food did not leave me craving for more...

Great little quaint place
Submitted Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 12:43am [Dine in]

My friend and I had lunch at Applewood today. We both had the quiche of the day (tomato bacon) which came with salad, a pot of tea and for dessert strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream. The service was attentive and warm rolls were provided for free. The quiche was delicious, as was the pie. The salad was a bit bland. Overall a lovely (small) little tea room with scrumptious, "just like home" (in a good way) cooking. I would definitely go again!

Just okay

We went for dinner to Athene's tonight. It was okay. Not great, but not terrible either. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant, but he was pretty efficient and friendly. We had a coupon and got no attitude about that, which is always a bonus. We had tzatziki, pita and chicken souvlaki. The tzatziki was okay, heavy on the cucumber. The pita was really good and fresh tasting. The rice was a bit greasy, but pretty good. The lemon potatoes were not very lemony and I didn't like them. The chicken, however, was quite tasty. Greek salad came with the meal and was good. NO peppers...always a bonus. Anyway, not a memorable dining experience but all in all pretty good. Would I go back? Probably not, since I only return to restaurants where I am really amazed by the food. There are too many options to go to an okay place more than once.

Pretty good

We went here for dinner tonight. The place was maybe one third full, if that. The service was okay. One guy watching the hockey game at the front greeted you. Two women did all the orders and serving.
The chicken tikka was really tasty as was the alu ghoobi (although the latter was a pretty small portion for 9.95) The chicken tandoori was really dry and so was the naan. Overall the food was solid but not as great as our last time. Still, it was good enough that we would go back.
I have to mention that I found the bathrooms unusually clean and was impressed with that.

View was the only plus
Submitted Saturday, April 18, 2009 - 11:20pm [Dine in]

Went here for lunch with a friend. The view is great and the service was quite good/attentive. Bread was brought out and was tasty and warm. However, the wraps we had were a soggy disgusting mess. The coffee was mediocre at best. For dessert, we had creme brulee, which was ok. My friend has a nut allergy and there was no mention on the menu that the creme brulee comes with walnut cookies on top. Pretty big oversight consdiering the number of nut allergies...So, despite the great view, I will not be going back.
