Regret This Choice For Dinner
Submitted Monday, September 26, 2011 - 10:50am [Dine in]

My husband and I treated my parents to dinner as a thank you for their recent support. The intent was to share a special meal together at a nice restaurant. Boy could we have chosen better. We had reservations for 7:30pm, which I made a week in advance. When we arrived, they said there would be "a bit of a wait" and we were offered the lounge seating while we waited. 45 minutes later, we were finally being seated. Although we did have staff tell us along the way "your table will be ready soon" etc etc, I was surprised that they did not offer to comp us anything - even just a small appetizer (I have had restaurants do this to me in the past - Le Gavroche to name one) - because a 45 minute wait is ridiculous given we had a reservation!!! (Begs the question - what is the point of them allowing you to make a reservation?) If the food had been outstanding, I would have left the restaurant feeling okay about choosing this restaurant for a special occassion. However, it was mediocre at best. (Do not get the prawn gyoza if you're in the mood for gyoza, otherwise you will be extremely disappointed - it did not seem like gyoza at all, more like a deep fried prawn wrapped in a crispy thing.) While we still had a lovely time with my parents, I will definitely think twice before returning to this restaurant.

Outstanding value for your dollar

My fiance and I ate here last weekend after hearing a lot of buzz about the food, and of course, the incredibly reasonable prices. Finally we decided we had to see for ourselves....... I have to say, the quality of food (and value for your dollar) lived up to all the hype! We tried the Ling Cod and Beef Tenderloin dishes - both were fantastic. Our server was efficient and right where you needed her, despite being run off her feet. Make sure you make a reservation before you go because you'll need one...!

Great for drinks...& for cheese

Due to proximity to my workplace, I have been to Corner Suite a few times now and have tried a number of their entrees and salads from the dinner menu. The entrees I have tried were good, but in my opinion, a bit over-priced (i.e. the croque madame, beef tenderloin and frites). The organic salad was fantastic - very clean and light. I would have given 'Food' a 3-star rating, but gave an extra star because they have a FABULOUS cheese selection! They also have one of the most extensive drink lists I have ever seen (try the Holy Toledo!). Service is in need of improvement in my mind, as we have often had trouble getting our server to return to our table to check in on us. Overall, not my top choice for dinner, but will likely return for after-work drinks and cheese.

Very Disappointing Experience

I recently had brunch here at a table of 6 people for a special family occasion. The dining area, although not large, has a modern feel (which I like) and has a luxe appearance. Initially, I thought I had stumbled across a new addition to my existing restaurant rotation. But then our server arrived. She proved to be unaccommodating, forgetful, and indifferent. When someone at our table had a special request, rather than offer to see if the kitchen could oblige, she flat out said "no, they can't do that". She said "no" a few more times, and only because I really insisted she ask the kitchen, she did. And what do you know, the kitchen COULD accomomodate the request! The food then took a loooong time to come out. When the server finally arrived with our food, she forget to bring out part of the order, and at the end of the meal, she forgot to bring our tea order out with dessert. Each time we politely reminded her, she responded with a lackluster "oh..right". The food was good, but not amazing, and priced on the high side. Overall, Vancouver has too many outstanding restaurants for us to ever return to this place.

Great food, great service!

I am truly surprised by the number of negative reviews on here about this charming mexican gem-of-a-restaurant! My boyfriend and I have eaten here numerous times since it opened, and each time has been enjoyable. Firstly: the food. If you are expecting Pace Picante, or if your palate is accustomed to fast food Mexican, then you will likely be disappointed. The food here is authentic Mexican, and is always served fresh. I recommend the tortilla soup, the burritos, the rolled tacos (potato!) and the sopes. Secondly: the service. We have always been welcomed with big smiles by the friendly female servers. They are patient when taking orders (I ask a lot of questions) and provide solid recommendations. Overall, this place is wonderful - a must-try for the open-minded looking to add a great new casual dining spot to their restaurant rotation.

Never...Again.

I work in Downtown Vancouver, and as such have had years to try out the various restaurants and cafes in the downtown area. Today I tried Bellagio Cafe, and cannot remember a worse dining experience. The food was terrible - the pizza I ordered was worse than the frozen type you can get at a grocery store! Furthermore, the service was horrible. She forgot to ring through our drink order, brought water that tasted like bleach, and failed to inform me that the pizza I wanted would be different style than the one I pointed to when ordering (a man beside us was eating one too). The pizza came out on a VERY thin crust (despite the man beside us having a nice thick doughy looking crust) and seemed about 6 seconds shy of being too burnt for consumption. The pizza was not as described - no capers, and the sun-dried tomatoes were tossed on after the fact. Meanwhile, the ambience was nothing short of hectic. The 'background' music playing was completely inappropriate for a restaurant - at one point the speakers were blasting a contemporary interpretation of the Barber of Seville!!! They are trying to go for a classy European feel, but missing the mark completely. Next time you are thinking of this restaurant..... don't.
