Moxie's Classic Grill1759 West Broadway, Vancouver
safe bet
Submitted Friday, February 3, 2006 - 2:12pm [Dine in]

This newer location on Broadway has great decor, friendly service, and a really cool patio. Good place to watch the game, or for casual dining with friends or family. The menu is fairly diverse with lots to offer. The brownie sundae is a must have for my gf. During my last visit I tried the enchiladas, they were great.

I feel like im in Vegas
Submitted Saturday, January 28, 2006 - 10:53pm [Dine in]

Earls can’t seem to decide on an atmosphere. They seem to try and keep up with a trend more than a menu. The service is quick and friendly, but the Paramount feel is more like a night club than a casual restaurant. I would like to see them stick to the fresh kitchen dining they started with vs. the coolest room on the block.

After visiting the restaurant a number of times, I have decided it is a great place for pizza. Although the menu offers many choices, you can’t go wrong with the pie. Located right next door to 5th ave theatre, its a great place to accompany the latest flic.

mmm oysters!
Submitted Saturday, January 28, 2006 - 10:21pm [Dine in]

The Sandbar is a great space, serving an excellent selection of fresh seafood and tapas. The service is conducive to the price, and the room is cozy and inviting. We indulged in a medley of fresh fish, oysters and appy's, all tasty and well prepared. I will most definitely return to explore this exciting menu.

Just plain bad!
Submitted Thursday, January 26, 2006 - 8:27pm [Dine in]

This place has a great theme and good ambience, but the food straight up sucks. Frozen entrees reheated when ordered, process cheese etc. I was really looking forward to trying this place out, but i will not return. The service was friendly and attentive, and after mentioning our dislike for the food they took care of the bill.

BC Sushi2126 W Broadway, Vancouver
Somewhere in the middle
Submitted Wednesday, January 25, 2006 - 6:02pm [Dine in]

I would say that BC sushi is somewhere in the middle of Tan Popo and Shabusen. The service was excellent and very friendly. We had the all you eat lunch which offered some different selection from other all you eat outlets. I would have to try them again for dinner before I made a real decision. Great value for the price.

Great casual dining
Submitted Tuesday, December 6, 2005 - 11:02pm [Dine in]

This review reflects 3 visits that have all been good. Chianti's offers great value for neighborhood patrons, with a Monday, Tuesday pasta night featuring $7.99 pasta selections. Service is well mannered and attentive, and menu offerings are vast. You won’t be disappointed for the price.

Great buffet, lousy service.
Submitted Tuesday, December 6, 2005 - 2:12pm [Dine in]

I used to hold the Bayshore brunch in high regard. But with the recent raise in price, and outright bad service, I'm not sure I will rush back soon. The Buffet is amazing, featuring everything you would need to stuff yourself silly on Sunday morning. I do have to agree with the critic, in that $45 a head is just too much, and the value is lacking.

A great fast food alternative
Submitted Tuesday, December 6, 2005 - 1:46pm [Dine in]

After hearing from many that this was the best burger in town I had to give it a try. The burger was a solid 7 and the fries an outstanding 9. We also tried their apple pie which was a little disappointing. All in, I would return for a burger and fries anytime. Listening to the clientele, it seems to be a local favorite.

Best Greek food in Kits
Submitted Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 4:09pm [Dine in]

I have been here twice in as many weeks, and I must say both visit were great! Service is friendly, food is excellent and the old world greek feel makes for a very cozy dining room. The pizza is oustanding, homemade whole wheat crust loaded with fresh toppings. As a Kits local, this will become a new staple restaurant for me.

Great food, but.......
Submitted Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 2:53pm [Dine in]

I think with a little effort this place could be a great local night spot for Kits.

We tried this upbeat Kitsilano hideaway last Friday and were kind of disappointed. The room was empty for 730 dinner reservation, the service was weak to say the least, and we couldn’t help to feel that something was just missing.

The food quality was great! Fresh, well presented, and very tasty. Unfortunately when the service flat out sucks, the food tends to take a backseat. I think perhaps they are just a young restaurant, still needing to find their niche. If they ever do I may give them a second chance.

Great all around
Submitted Friday, November 4, 2005 - 11:43am [Dine in]

I dine here regularly but usually for lunch. We went in for dinner the other night, and I was really impressed. The food was amazing, (braised short rib and osso buco) and the dessert was, to say the least overwhelming. Every chocolate lover should try Mosaic's giant choc cake. They serve you the entire cake, i kid you not. Easily enough for 8 people with a price of $7. Around a great dining experience.

Welcome addition to Kits Beach
Submitted Friday, October 21, 2005 - 12:17am [Dine in]

This spot is a great addition to the Kits beach area. Food is incredible, service is tight and the room is well appointed.

I decided on the tasting menu, 3 courses with wine pairings @ $45.00.

First course: Baby eggplants, stuffed and roasted with Roma tomato cippolini onions,
Capers, anchovies, fresh herbs and Cacciocavallo cheese.

2nd: Spaghettini – With Calabrese sausage, Hot chillies, garlic, eggplant, lemon zest,
fresh basil.

3rd: Albacore Tuna, Agro dolce, lemon risotto.

All the dishes were brilliantly presented, with tastes to match. I am looking forward to trying them out for brunch.

Shiru-Bay Chopstick Cafe1193 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
can't blame the servers
Submitted Sunday, October 16, 2005 - 2:20am [Dine in]

Shiru has the makings of an outstanding restaurant, but seems to take on more than they can handle. The room is trendy and stylish, and fits in well with its Yaletown siblings. The food is excellent, well prepared and exciting. The delivery however is miserable. The kitchen simply cannot keep up with the customers demand. I feel sorry for the friendly service staff that makes every attempt to deliver a winning dinning experience. I hope to see this popular café step up its overly relaxed food delivery. Perhaps we should spend a night behind the line crackin the whip.

No substitutions with the special
Submitted Monday, September 26, 2005 - 10:46pm [Dine in]

I stopped into this place after hearing from friends it was a good spot for a casual meal. As always I will be brutally honest with my review.

First off the menu is too big, 5 pages jammed full of everything from Greek lamb chops, to chicken quesadillas. Honestly is kind of silly, and took me nearly 20min to decide what to have. I finally ordered the T-bone steak special, reasonably priced at 19.95$, and served with garlic mash, Greek salad, hummus, tzatziki and pita. I found the food to be quite tasty, and well prepared. The steak was cooked to my liking, and the portion was more than generous. The service however was a bit lacking. “May I have roasted potato instead of mashed" I asked. "Sorry you can’t" she replied, "the kitchen doesn’t offer substitutions on dinner specials". C’mon! That’s just dumb. She then failed the ice water test miserably. (I put all servers to this test) “May I have an ice water with lemon please?" Most will forget the lemon (about6 out of 10 actually), this one brought me lukewarm tap water, not even an ice cube, let alone lemon.

With a little attention to detail and a scaled down menu, this place could be awesome. They offer a brunch on Sunday which I will give a try.

I am glad this place is around to make up for all the garbage food outlets in kits beach. Wicked awesome deli selections, and the best samosas I've had in town. Some of the selection are a bit pricey, but the quality is excellent.

Went to earls last night for dinner and was impressed with many of the new menu items. All the dishes we had were fresh, well presented, and very tasty. The service was as expected and friendly. they have just opened a store in the new Paramount building which i'm sure will become a popular hotpot.

Well I have driven past this place so many times that I decided to try it out. The interior is stylish and relaxed, hosting a number or original Will Refuse paintings. The service was very friendly and efficient, with good knowledge of the day’s specials. I had soup and a pork cutlet sangy off the special sheet that wasn’t too bad. The menu is very healthy and organic, so avoid this place if you are looking for a greasy burger and fries. All and all, it didn’t make a lasting impression on me, but I may give them a shot for breaky or dinner.

Pet peeve- Ice water should be ice water (including ice), not luke warm tap water in a tumbler.
