Went for lunch at Sushi Shelter due to the great ratings on here. I am glad I went. The place was not busy at all and my friend and I got a table quickly. I had the sashimi salad lunch special and my friend had the Sushi Shelter Roll lunch special. Each special came with tempera chips, 2 pieces of calamari, 2 pieces of salmon type roll, a potato croquette, and fruits. I also ordered the torpedo roll (smoke salmon, tempera shrimp, tataki tuna) which is really delicious . The sashimi salad was really yummy. Big portion all around. They don't cheap out on anything. The total was around $34. A pretty good deal for all the food we had.
Ever since I saw the cupcake store opened, I wanted to try it, I read an article in the local paper that they use natural ingredients and are healthier. Half the sugar used to make the cupcakes. I eventually went in and got half a dozen. Mango and orange flavor? Anyway, they taste great! Love the icing. Not too sweet, just how I like it.
3 things people look for in a Japanese restaurant:
1)Fresh
2)Tasty
3)Good portion
I feel Sushi Village met those criteria. Even though I have never dine in, the take outs have always been good. The chef is friendly and he is Japanese. Therefore, you know it is authentic. Usually, Japanese restaurants have Korean or Chinese cooks. So it is really a gem to have a Japanese Chef make my sushi. I usually do not visit restaurants near where I live. I am not sure why but I would go to Sushi village again.
I have been there twice. Each time I have to wait about 10 mins or so, but my food were freshly made. The place appears to be more of a take out place then a dine in place. Overall I would go there for takeout again. The portion is regular size. I think if they start making bigger portion, people may take notice. Because bigger portion is a big selling point for many Japanese places.
Sui Sha Ya in coquitlam used to be good. Now in it's new location, I decided to give it a try. At first, the atmostshpere was great but it slowly went down hill from there. I wasn't expecting much in quality for buffet type Japanese food but I have always enjoy it regardless. BUT this place, I hate the service. My sister and I left some uneaten rice on a plate and I swear only about 4 pieces. The waiter was collecting extra plates and said in a rude way "you can't do that, we charge extra for that." I lost my appetite after that. No smile all around. They really need to think about how they treat customers.
