Tandoori Palace1439 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Hit and miss

I'd call this place decent.
Went years ago and it was good, so thought about going again.
The lady and I went in hungry, so we ordered 3 dishes - butter chicken, lamb curry, and chicken tikka. I'm of Indian descent, so will be a bit more critical.

The butter chicken was average. I've had better, but certainly had worse. The sauce was rich and thick. Could've used more chicken in it.

The lamb curry was ok. The actual curry itself could've used a lot more spices and the lamb seemed a bit dry.

I was not impressed with the chicken tikka at all. I didn't know whether to go for the tandoori chicken or tikka, so the guy suggested the tikka. It came out first, 5 or 6 two-bite pieces of chicken off a skewer. Came out on a big place with a small handful of salad. I think that was about $8 or $9. Bad choice. Also dry.

We got 1 with rice and 2 with naan, which seemed to be enough. The naan was too thin though, so ended up being crispy.

Total came to about $30.
Do yourself a favour, get take-out, there's no need to sit in that space.

Good, but expensive ice cream
Submitted Sunday, August 1, 2010 - 10:07pm [Dine in]

That's it. It's good, but it's just expensive ice cream.
Beware! You can easily spend upwards of $6 per person here. I've been twice now within the past month with 2 or 3 people and being budget-conscious, got the big-dipper with a few extras. Total came to about $8 each time.
They need to have a larger choice of ice cream flavours, but I guess with the space they're restricted to what they have.
It's a great concept, but when you think about what you're getting, going to a less-expensive place makes more sense.
The servers aren't so helpful. There's so many choices so I asked what would be good together. You'd think by working there, they would have an idea, but I pretty much got a blank look with "ya, that would be good" type answers.

Makes for a great treat once in a while, but it's hard on the wallet. I don't think I'll be going back any time in the near future.

Good food - go with a group
Submitted Sunday, August 1, 2010 - 9:55pm [Dine in]

Went here with a group of 9 for dinner.
First off, they had no AC and we sat at the table with the only fan, so the place was disgustingly hot.
The food though was really good. They have a lot of tapas-like items to share, so it's best to go with a group and try a bunch of different things. My two favourites were the bison, which was pretty melt-in-your-mouth, and the lamb, which was like little patties topped with popcorn (never seen that before!). Had the dulce de leche which was really good, as well as a chocolate and nut bar.
Service was really good, very attentive and gave great advice on what to get.
The price was a little high IMO - came to about $45 per person (just food, not incl drinks).

Bang for your buck

Went here night with the lady.
Sat at the table closest to the kitchen window which was pretty cool to see them making the noodles by hand. Doesn't look like the most sanitary place there is, but the food was pretty good. Got 2 dishes to share (a dragging noodles soup and a chopped noodles dish) and a green onion cake. Total came to about $20, which was pretty good. Really filling, as noodles naturally are. The chopped noodles were my favourite because they really gave the feel that they were handmade.
For the price, I'd go again.
Don't know what the people below were saying about them asking for tips, we didn't experience that. The service isn't the greatest, they only had a couple people working the tables, but the food came out fast, so I didn't care too much.
