Torino Restaurant15065 Marine Drive, White Rock
great dining experience in White Rock
Submitted Tuesday, January 1, 2008 - 2:58pm [Dine in]

Were looking for a nice place for dinner in White Rock and chose Torino while walking along the beach. We were not disappointed. The food was great; from steamed mussels and clams appetizer, to pasta and veal entrees, to the interesting tiramisu for desert. Serve was great and you can't really beat the ambiance when you have a window side table overlooking the beach on a clear night.

Dosas!
Submitted Tuesday, January 1, 2008 - 2:54pm [Dine in]

Dosa's are great!

We happened to stumble across this place after trying a few other rather unimpressive places serving dosas in Surrey. Mayuri was head and shoulders above the others and by far, the best we've tried yet. Been here only a handful of times and have been impressed each and every time - food is great and the prices are very reasonable.
We will continue to be repeat customers here and encourage others who have yet to find this place to try it.

Delicious!
Submitted Friday, November 23, 2007 - 7:10am [Dine in]

After three visits I'm continually impressed by the taste, quality and freshness of the sushi and sashimi. All the selections I've tried are exceptional.
Downside is that portions are a little on the small size and prices a little high.

outstanding food and incredible (really!) service
Submitted Friday, October 19, 2007 - 10:27pm [Dine in]

Three of us had dinner here the other night and were extremely impressed with every aspect of the whole dinig experience.
The food was great - scallop appetizer and tiramisu were exceptional.
Service - wow! Extremely impressive - very attentive and inviting.
It's a bit of an unassuming restaurant if you're driving by, but it's definately worth a stop.
It's great to have a place like this in Surrey. For me, the sign of a really good restaurant is if we would want to brave traffic and go out of our way just to dine there. I think this is one of those places and if it happened to be in Vancouver or Burnaby we would absolutely make the trip.

Sabai Thai Restaurant10391 150 Street, Surrey
really good thai food in surrey
Submitted Friday, October 5, 2007 - 8:58pm [Dine in]

Very glad we tried this place for the first time - we'll be back again and again.
There's probably no reason why we couldn't give food and service a five - it was that good. Will hold out calling this place incredible for a few more visits. The hot and sour soup was delicious as was the shredded green papaya salad.
If you've been thinking about trying this place - do it - you won't be disappointed.
If I had one complaint it would be that when you ask for food hot (spicy) it doesn't meet my expectation of "hot" (although that's not uncommon at many places).
Just really liked this restaurant and pleased to have something this good close to home.

Looked back at the previous add and realized we accidentally gave 4 stars which equals outstanding.
Overall nice pub - not outstanding though - don't want to mislead.
Can't find a way to edit previous reviews so wanted to clarify.

a nice surprise - worth a try
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 10:04pm [Dine in]

Fijian curry! Sounds very intriguing and it was well worth the stop for lunch.
They have a relatively small menu but prices are very good and portions quite large - food is simple but very good.
Service was excellent and staff seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were happy.
Go give this place a try - the vegetarian dishes were great.

Take and bake pizza - a great idea and healthier choice
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 9:31pm [Dine in]

So I don't like "delivery" pizza very much but still order it once or twice a year because it's fast and easy. I do love thin-crust oven baked "authentic" pizza but seems I can only find it "eat-in" at italian restaurants or brewpub-style places.
Take and bake seems like a great alternative to the regular deivery optionns when you want fast food. We ordered two, whole wheat, thin crust pizzas loaded with veggies for baking at home and they were very good.
Try this place out - much better than the thick crust, grease-puddle pepperoni and cheese $5 pizzas you'll get from the other places.

love the house special Pho Saigon
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 9:23pm [Dine in]

Been here numerous times (all take-out) as I really like the house special beef noodle soup. Throw in a couple of salad rolls and it's a very good deal - fast, relatively cheap and the pho is very tasty.
Worth a stop for lunch or for some take-out on the way home.

Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 9:12pm [Dine in]

I've been here three times for dinner as I work close by and stayed in the area for a ball game later those evenings.
Don't know what to say - was never impressed but never disappointed. I have gone back twice so it wasn't terrible. There are definitely better sushi restaurants in the lower mainland but I'm unfamiliar with Maple Ridge. Sorry this review isn't all that helpful - I'll say don't rush out or travel very far to stop in here - but if you're close by it's not bad.

a great lunch stop!
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 9:07pm [Dine in]

I'm a fairly regular lunch patron (buffet) and always leave happy. Price is very reasonable (<$10) and food is always good. Very nice service staff. Well worth a visit. Try the mattar paneer. Have never ordered off the menu or been here for dinner.

Worth stopping it - can't decide if i like the ambiance - it is outside, but in a parking lot with all the highway traffic passing by.
Food is really good for the price charged and this place makes a great lunch or take-out dinner option.

Very happy with the food
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 8:58pm [Dine in]

Been here two or three times - all for dinner and each time relatively early (around 5pm) so service was quick as the place was pretty much empty.
The food was great - I remember a tomato/lamb curry dish that was very good.
Don't find that we're in Maple Ridge very often for dinner and as a result don't return as often as we would if it were closer to home.
Very definitely worth a try if you've never been.

a hidden gem?
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 8:40pm [Dine in]

Note sure how many people know about this place (I added the first review) because it isn't always full when we go semi-regularly - once a month maybe. Could be the unassuming location in a strip mall?
I highly recommend this place - the food is really good and if you like it spicy - ask for "hot" and say it with some enthusiasm and you won't be dissapointed.
The palaak paneer and rogan josh are my favorites and the naan is delicious - always get some raita to counter the heat.
Haven't tried many indian restaurants since moving here but so far this is our favorite.
Prices are a little high but portions are big and food is really, really good.

Terrible sushi
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 8:29pm [Dine in]

Let me preface this (since we've added the first review and feel a little guilty that it's bad) review by saying we only tried the sushi - the Korean BBQ may be outstanding (but we won't be back to find out).
Again, stopped in just becasue it was close to home, the first impression was that the place smells bad. Note sure how else to describe it, but our first reaction was that we should have left and went somewhere else. Being new to the area we didn't know where to go so decided to stay - bad choice. When it comes to sushi, rule #1 must be - trust your nose.
I couldn't finish my plate of sashimi, tough, slimy fishy - honestly. Not good.
My grilfriend had frozen tuna and salmon sushi - not slightly not slightly frozen, but downright frozen in the middle. When the waitress came by we requested she take it back as it was unaccaptable - she tried to convince us otherwise and inform us that sushi is suppossed to be frozen! Like a sushi-sicle!?!?!
After a bit if presuasion they took the frozen sushi from our bill.
Maybe it was just a bad night for them? maybe the Korean BBQ is great?

Overall a decent place - worth a quick stop
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 8:15pm [Dine in]

The review only has two stars but two stars = "decent" and this place is decent (which definitely isn't bad).
I don't know - menu is limited and location and ambiance leaves something to be desired but if you want some quick, cheap sushi on the way home it's definitely worth a stop to visit.

service and food has been sliding?
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 8:07pm [Dine in]

Think I agree with some of the recent reviews about this place falling out of favour?
I can say it's always busy and food is always fast and never worse than decent but service can be shotty and the menu's seem to have changed with three price options and only the most expensive choice have a huge range of choices.
When we're looking for all-you-can-eat sushi Shabusen is te number one choice and Richmond Sushi seems to be the alternative when Shabusen is full or when we're close by in Richmond and time is tight.

Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 8:00pm [Dine in]

Maybe because of lack of info about other Thai restaraunts (only just discovered dinehere.ca reviews) we continue to come back here whenever in the area.
Food is always good - prices are reasonable and portions are large. I like the spicy green beans with salty fish/prawn sauce (can't remember the name of the dish) but order it virtually everytime.

Every time we've been here it's been full. Not sure if this place lives up to it's reputation of fabulous sushi but it is good. Prices are great. Will contine to eat here whenever in the neighbourood but likely not worth the trip alone.
Some of the rolls are so large they're very hard to eat without making a mess.

Say what you want about AYCE - this place is good
Submitted Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 7:47pm [Dine in]

All-you-can-eat can sometimes mean you'll settle for less than superb food in favour of quantity.
I wouldn't say Shabusen is superb, but the sushi is not far off. Prices are more than reasonable and there is a very wide selection of items in the menu. I love the gomae and ohitashi and sometimes order enough of these dishes alone to cover the cost - the sushi and sashimi are then just bonus!
The place (both locations) seems to be very busy very often and we have been here on several occasions where the wait was just too long and so we chose Sushi King instead.
