Definately way better than the reviews
Submitted Saturday, January 14, 2012 - 3:17pm [Dine in]

Just goes to show you most reviews are only people who complain. We had a great time at ONYX. Our server Jen was perfect in every way. She knew when to be at the table and when not to. We found the prices to be the same as the Keg as we go there often (not anymore) but the big difference was the quality. They dry age their beef for a minimum of 40 days and the night we were there the filet mignon was at 48 days of age so we all ordered it and the filet was outstanding. There menu is diverse you can order from their conventional section which comes a starch and vegetable or you can order a la carte which was the route we tried because the sides sounded so amazing and they were. We tried yam gratin, mac & cheese, and house made gnoochi which were all incredible. The room is upbeat and fun and the bar/lounge seemed like a great place to watch a Canucks game. We were in Port Moody visiting friends but the White Rock location is closer to home so we are going to try that one next. Stay tuned.

Dinner by bug light
Submitted Tuesday, October 6, 2009 - 8:45pm [Dine in]

We went there about a month ago and it just does not make sense. We were seated on the patio by these white neon boxes that attract a tone of bugs. The prices are that of a fine dining restaurant and the food had to many flavours going on at once. Our server was pretty good. Friendly and laid back. It will be awhile before we try it again.

Really, really good. Service was great I would recommend sitting at the bar although the stools could be a little more comfy. Music great. Ask the bartender for one of their original cocktails with the egg white (I do not think it is on the menu anymore but it sure is good). Chef definetely knows what he/she is doing. Will return.

Just not what I thought.
Submitted Saturday, February 28, 2009 - 8:51pm [Dine in]

Hubby and I were doing some restaurant hopping one night. A bartender at another restaurant suggested Boneta and we thought "Why not...we keep saying that we are going to go...let's give it a try".

I was expecting more I guess. The room looked huge...especially with such few tables in it and the food was horrible. Carpaccio was extremely chewy and the headcheese was far from what the server explained. I am always up for trying new things...and I would try headcheese again, just not here.

Wine selction was interesting but the by the glass did not suit me.

Server was just OK. She seemed knowledgeable enough.

Needless to say we hopped onto the next restuarnat really quickly.

Not sure that I would need to return.

Normally I don't bother writing about negative experiences but this was over the top. Our evening started with being told to sit at a dirty table and and that she would be right with us. 10 minutes later she cleaned the table, 5 minutes after that we finally got menu's. They were out of almost everything and the restaurant was not even that busy. The pricing is on par with white table cloth dining. Theirs are yellow and purple??? Paper I think!

Decided to just order starters as the only two choices they had left for mains were not appealing. The soup was burn't and the escargot was oversalted. I saw the Chef use the microwave at least eight times in the hour that we were there. What was he cooking in the microwave? We will never know because we are never going back.

My new favorite!
Submitted Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 4:32pm [Dine in]

We used to like West as our favorite but found a little gem in White Rock that was just as good but not as expensive. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu (only $65) and every course was spot on. The braised shortrib with potato aligot was my favorite.

Our server Shannon was perfect in everyway! Her timing, knowledge, and uplifting spirit made it easy to remember her name.

The place was decked out for Christmas and had lots of candlelight. Perfect for our romantic evening. Soothing 40's jazz in the background did not take away from the focus. THE FOOD! YUM YUM YUM!!! Can't wait to go back and try the sablefish from their a la carte menu as Shannon said it is amazing.

Only been once but will definately return. The food was outstanding. Have to say that the music was not all that relaxing and almost irritated me the first part of the night and then it must have gotten better because I don't remember it being a huge detriment to the entire night. I gues as the restaurant filled up the music did suit the vibe.

Our server seemed a little bit new and maybe nervous but it takes a while to get comfortable and I'm sure it is not like this all the time.

Can't wait to go back. Will write again about the next experience.

Want to go again!
Submitted Saturday, November 3, 2007 - 10:49pm [Dine in]

I must say it has been a while since my first visit to Chambar but I remember the great feeling of the room and have always wanted to go back It is comfortable and relaxing with an upbeat vibe.

I also remember just being somewhat satisfied with the food. It seemed somewhat uninteresting to me. I always like to give a restaurant a few tries and will venture that way again soon!

It really is a nice restaurant but not my favourite. The few times that I have been the food has been just ok...some dishes are fantastic and some i dislike. The tasting menu is a nice way to dine.

I have always been cold when dining here because of the big windows. The service was great one time and not so great the next time. Hit or miss really.

As I said good to try and say that you have been.

My top restaurant pick
Submitted Saturday, November 3, 2007 - 10:40pm [Dine in]

I have always been a fan of this spot. The food is always fantastic, fresh and inspiring. The bartenders and the staff are really good at pairing wines with your meal as well. Can I mention the the cocktails are some of the best in town also. They can whip something fresh up for you at your request.

Since my first visit I have always found the room a little bit cold but I can accept that and go for the food alone.

The service is attentive and usually perfect... but hey no one is perfect.

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a wonderful meal and a great evening out.
