FOOD
The pizza was amazing! You could taste how fresh the dough was, the ingredients were fresh and it came out piping hot! We got the meat lovers and spagnoula and it was delicious! Both had just the right amounts of toppings! It should be consistant each time you order as they measure out how much cheese and other toppigs to put on. They are starting to make their own new York style cheesecake! By the way, if you are a thick crust kind of guy, this place is not for you.
SERVICE
The service was great - my friends and I went early for fear of them running out of dough so on their down time the staff were talking to us and gave us an extra pop :)
AMBIANCE
The pizza is no architecture winning place but what is cool is that you get to watch you pizza being made, and there's a small tv to watch. There are only a couple of tables though so eating in would be hard if there's a lot of people. You definitely go there for the pizza, not the decor.
VALUE
We ordered 2 large pizzas and had 4 cokes and it came up to 57$. Well worth It when you taste it. I'm going back there in a couple of months...I would go back more often if it was closer!
Food
I ordered a mango lychee smooth with pearls. I had an overall funny taste, was just ice, no milk and just didn't look right. I didn't even finish it!
Service
When I walked in, the server was sitting with her 4 friends. It was not welcoming and she did not look like she wanted to be there. It felt like we were a burden to cut into he socializing time.
Ambiance
The store had so many posters on the wall and there were so many choices of flavours and you can mix 3 flavours together. It did not look clean in the back and there are no washrooms for customers.
Value
The bubble tea was 4.97 - one of the most expensive take out bubble teas I've had for the type of quality it was. Urbanspoon had 5 votes that gave this place 100% and it is definitely not good! I would give it 50% at best.
It was 11:20 PM on a Friday night and me and 3 friends had craved bubble tea but most places were closing in Vancouver so we decided to go to Twinkle. I remembered it had games (cards, Monopoly, Poker and that's about it) so we went there because if I was going to drive to richmond I didn't want to get the drink and then leave.
All the bubble teas were good but they are expensive (about $6 for one). I also got the condensed milk on toast and it was pretty good - The bread was really soft so we knew it wasn't old. But my friend got the chicken popcorn ($6) and it didn't have a lot! Felt kinda ripped off.
I've gone to Dragon View about 4 times now for Dim Sum and it has never disappointed.
Food comes out hot and they have the usual selection of things to choose from.
You should call in and book a table before going as it gets quite busy but dies down around 2:30 PM on the weekend.
It is on the more expensive side for dim sum, comparable to Sun Sui Wah.
I love going to Kingyo for lunch on weekdays. They never have a line, lots of seats, fast service and the washrooms are clean.
I usually order one of the following three:
1) Pork Kukuni bowl
2) Negitoro bowl, or
3) Tofu mobo bowl (spicy! watch out)
They also have a great homemade ginger ale that I like, and the hot teas are good too!
The bowls above are under $10 and come with soup. The Tofu bowl comes with this almond dessert too!
I love this place!
Two friends and I went to Simply Thai for Dining Out for Life. We were craving Thai and of the 4 Thai places to choose from, we chose Simply Thai because it was close to my house, and I thought it would be good.
When we entered, we realized that the restaurant was very small - seats about 15 tables of 4s and it has a nice patio. There was no wait for a table at 6:30 PM on a Thursday, although most tables had been filled already. We sat near the bar.
We got the menus and the waiter came by to ask us what we wanted to drink within 1 minute. I ordered a sprite and my friend asked for their wine list. She decided not to have wine as she was craving something mango-y. She was driving so no hard liquor, she looked at the "Designated Drivers" list and there was a Mango Colada. We ordered that and it came with Rum. When my friend questioned the waiter if the drink had rum, he said yes. My friend said she wanted the non-alcoholic one and he replied, "Well you didn't specify." (We didn't know they had two drinks, of the exact same name.) He pointed it to the menu. My friend asked if she could have it replaced with the one with no alcohol. He abruptly grabbed the drink, slammed it at the bar and said to the bartender, "They want the one with no rum." After the drink was made, he slammed it on our table, without saying anything, and walked away.
Spring Rolls 4 for $10 - Small, not flakey enough, very very greasy
Pad thai $15 - It was good
Yellow Curry $16 - Mild was SO spicy!!
Overall, not a great experience.
Oh man, Thai Away Home is my favorite place for take-out food. It's fast and so good! Everything is great although sometimes their food isn't consistant - sometimes there's more sauce, less sauce, too sweet, etc. But that's what you pay for because it's usually made "fresh" (or what is considered fresh for fast food.
Despite their limited selection, their food is not bad. The service is a bit slow when they have more people because they only have about 2 to 3 staff. The Kimchi Pork Donburi is GREAT and their chicken teriyaki is good as well. Sushi is mediocre.
In regards to a post below - most sushi express places make sushi from a machine.
While the food selection is wide, a lot of it is overpriced. And really, the curries (red, green, yellow) are those that you could get it at Thai Away Home for a lot cheaper!
When we were given a table for 6, only 4 of the 6 were there at first and the server kept asking us if we were ready to order. When we said no, she would just walk away without saying "Okay I'll come back in a few minutes" - just rude! And then when my friends were ordering, they decided to change the order while the server was still there but she was so rude about it as if she already put it in the computer or something.
The burgers are expensive and not that great.
The fries are not good - McDonalds are better...face it!
Also, I had left my credit card at the cashier and left the restaurant and a staff member managed to charge $100, $80 and $50 on it. When I realized that I lost my card, I checked my online statement and the charges were made there. I went to Fatburger, spoke with the manager - Alan H., and he knew EXACTLY where my card was. He returned it but when asked if he knew what had happened he had no idea and when asked if he would follow up with me, he said that he thought there was no need and all I had to do was contact my credit card company. While that is true, but as a customer, I desire some sort of follow-up or apology. None was given. Also, as manager, at the day's end wouldn't you notice these LARGE, EVEN credit card transactions???
Advice: Go to another place. Burgers suck, prices are high, management is poor at best!
This place is a great place for the date because you get to share plates and for a large part of the conversation, if you're stuck on something, discuss how cool this place is.
The food is exceptional, and it's not like anything you would find in downtown - and thank goodness because if it was in downtown, i'd expect the prices to go up dramatically.
Everything on the menu looks so good and I had the mussels and the scallops. Both of them were a relatively good size. Don't think of them as appys but more of small entrees. And if you think of it that way, it's really not that expensive. It's like a dish at milestones but you get more bang for your buck.
The wait wasn't too bad considering i didn't have a res on a friday night we only had to wait like 10 minutes.
Banana Leaf, Denman location was an awesome idea! There's just not enough good food that's distinct down there. The only thing that sucks about this location is that it is pretty small so you'll have to wait to get a table during the busy times.
Note that you cannot get the Haianese rice at this location which is sad :(
The only thing that makes me mad is that the service at this restaurant is SO slow! Even when there are only a bit of people, with 4 waitresses it takes FOREVER to get something done or for them to even come around.
Food is alright.
Anton's is the Stepho's of Italian food. The portions are big, the price is small, and the lines to wait for a table are long! Once you get seated, prepare to wait a while for someone to come by and take your order. However, the waitresses that I've had have always been nice. The food takes a while to come but you can't complain because the amount they give you is HUUUGE. When the bill comes along, don't be suprised - they haven't miscalculated.
The service is exceptional and the waitresses are always very good looking.
The food is different and is very good. The price is VERY right.
The restauant has such a great upbeat atmosphere and is so nice just to hang out with friends or sit by the fireplace with a date.
If you haven't been, you definately have to go!
Stonegrill is a great place for the experience. The restaurant is placed right near the ocean inlet and it's SO beatiful at night. Great place to bring the family or for a date. The restaurant is not so great if you don't like to cook the food yourself (although there's a cooked section, but where's the fun in that?).
The meat was really good and the combinations of what you can get is good.
Opa is a great place for a Monday night when there's nothing in the fridge and you don't want to go out to eat at a real greek place.
The food is healthy and although sometimes it's not as good as, let's say, Stepho's, it is quick and tastes good.
The service is always fast as everything is already semi-cooked. Portions are good and selection is regular.
Steamrollers is a great alternative for healthy fast food. It fills you up and you stay filled up, ahem, unlike Mickey D's.
It's kind of a wrap zone but I don't know how to explain it, but it's a bit different.
It's not a place that I would go to all the time, but it's not a bad choice once in a while.
I only go to Bimini's because of the wings wednesday but other than that, this tap house is pretty regular.
The service is slow and the food is decent. Nothing spectacular. The drinks were alright but I've had better martini's made at Milestones and Earl's.
If it wasn't for the proximity of the restaurant and their wing wednesday, i wouldn't continue going.
The menu selection is very big and although the food is original, its very small portions are a pooper.
The service is good and the waiters are very knowledgable on what is what on the menu.
The restaurant is very nicely designed.
