Calabash Bistro428 Carrall St, Vancouver
My fav new spot - an "all-in-one"
Submitted Wednesday, August 11, 2010 - 9:27am [Dine in]

I've been to Calabash four times now and each time I am more and more impressed by the food, drinks and value. When it comes down to it, you're getting a great Caribbean meal and drinks for at least 20% less that what you'd pay at Earls or equivalent.

Also, the wait staff is incredible, super friendly and the owners are always around lending a helping hand.

Calabash has two floors and the basement hosts a DJ booth in which there are weekly schedules where it turns form a restaurant to a dance floor with the convenience a bar located downstairs as well.

I've only been on Saturdays and they have three DJs mixing awesome reggae beats.

Not pretentious at all, great food, great drinks, great people, great ambiance... don't think you could beat this in Vancouver.

By the way, I was there last weekend with a group of about 15 for my girlfriend's birthday and it was great. From dinner to dancing until 2am, it was just a blast.

Never a problem.

I've been here many times and have never been disappointed.

The service is great, the food is delicious, and the ambience is warm.

Don't fall into the idea that just because there's more than one location it is subpar. I even hear they buy their beef from the same place as gotham's and hy's.

Beer Note:
Great job - keep it up but bring back the Okanagan Springs Pale Ale. That was a great complement to a fine meal. Not as big a fan of the Whistler Ale and Lager than replaced it. Oh well, Rickards it is for now.

Burrito Bros. Taco Company, The2209 West 1st Ave, Vancouver
Great lunch spot
Submitted Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 5:59pm [Dine in]

I've come here several times now and this place prepares amazing burritos. The salsa that comes with it is fantastic.

Great selection of some hot sauces and a big bomber will never leave you hungry.

They also have a variety of Mexican sodas in the fridge... glass bottles but forget the name. Goes great with any one of their menu items.

I should mix it up a little with the other things on the menu, but have so far been very impressed with Burrito Bros. to date.

Good place for kabab
Submitted Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 5:52pm [Dine in]

I've been here a few times and usually order for pick up. The food is consistent and tastes great.

The staff are kind and you can always depend on a plate of kabab and rice to fill up the hungriest person.

I would come back more often but I'm usually out downtown. I walked by yesterday and was reminded of the good value versus some of the other kabab plces in town.

Havana Restaurant1212 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Great place for brunch and a place to drink
Submitted Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 5:40pm [Dine in]

The food is amazing. They know what goes best and you have a wide variety of things to choose from.

From their dinner menu, I've had the chicken wrap and the burger... both of which were amazing.

The brunch is incredible. I've had the veggie has almost everytime and it is incredible.

Coffee and specialty drinks made here are fantastic too. A nice, bright and warm ambience is what to expect.

Splitz Grill4242 Main Street, Vancouver
My favorite burger joint
Submitted Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 5:35pm [Dine in]

The burgers here are just fantastic. Grab one with the splitz sauce and whatever else you can fit in your mouth and you're good to go.

Value's OK, I don't have too much of a problem with it, because you know there's quality stuff goin in.

Make sure you get here hungry, because a full meal with a burger, fires, and drink should definitely leave you satisfied.

Check out the one in Whistler too, that's where I first heard about it.

Urban Thai Bistro1119 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
Great Thai food. Nice staff
Submitted Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 5:29pm [Dine in]

I've come here many times. The food is always done right and they have an excellent Tom Yum Gai soup which is grrreat if you have a cold.

Asking for "hot" instead of "medium" is for the seasoned. Just a heads up, but it can vary.

They usually prepare food very quickly if you live in Yaletown and want to just grab something to pick up.
I totally recommend:
Chicken Pad Thai, beef skewers, red chicken curry (in cocunut), and the lettuce wraps - usually at the top of my list, but then again I haven't tried too many other things on the menu!

Bella Pizza1725 Davie Street, Vancouver
THE classic pizza joint. No fluff - just great pizza
Submitted Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 5:20pm [Dine in]

Kudos to the men at Bella PIzza. These guys are pizza pros. If you go in and watch them, they're real guys at work, making a helluva pizza. No skateboarding teenagers working here.... and the work put in really shows.

One thing I can say is that they are generous with their toppings, know what's the proper amount of cheese and sauce and they hit it everytime. Try the garlic dipping sauce. Actually pretty spicy! I usually get pick up but one time I ordered and it was hot our of the oven.

Not only are their pizzas fantastic, but also their pizza subs. These things are amazing... garlic bread sauce, two toppings (go for pep and mush or chicken) and a good helping of cheese.

Great value and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a real damn pizza!

Oh and one other thing. You know it's all business the second you walk into the place.

Kashcool222 Pemberton Ave, North Vancouver
Great food, but prefer to pick up
Submitted Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 4:59pm [Dine in]

I've been to a ton of Iranian restaurants in Vancouver, but none quite rival the tenderness of the kababs at Kashcool. The rice is delicious too.

If you're looking to fill up and don't care too much about the old decor, I'd suggest it, but also why not call in a pick it up instead?

Value could be better on the combo options for 3, 4,...etc on the back of the menu, although it makes things a lot easier.

My two cents: Stcik with the rice, kabab koobideh, barg, or joojeh. The Barg (steak) is surprisingly tender. The joojeh (chicken) can be cut with a spoon... delish!
