West Restaurant + Bar2881 Granville Street, Vancouver
A Must Try During DOV
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 8:17pm [Dine in]

I ate at West as one of the restaurants I picked from the Dine-Out-Vancouver list. Voted the restaurant of the year, I had very high expectations. They met those expectations! For $35, I had the crispy duck salad (delicious), the pork roast on port braised cabbage (yummy) and for dessert, I had the banana chocolate cake (devine). Although the portions were small, I didn't expect anything more. The service was absolutely out of this world. Our server was very courteous even though we were 25 minutes late for our reservation on a very busy night. Our table remained spic n' span throughout the evening, he even picked up a lone crumb on the table as he walked by. Warning, West may burn a hole in your wallet if you go at any other time.

Unique darkness
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 8:09pm [Dine in]

I went to WaaZuBee for lunch with a friend last week. I loved the ambiance! There was a comforting dark feel to the place. Lots of interesting decor there including melted wax sculptures and a chandelier made from rusty bent forks and spoons. The food was so so. My friend really enjoyed her chicken sandwich with brie, and I ordered perogies out of all things, I know. I found the lotsa cheddar-topped perogies teamed up with Chorizo to be very greasy. The service was meh. There were only a handful of tables yet the waitress always seemed too busy to attend to anyone.

Brado Pizza1399 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Cheap pizza with gourmet taste!
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 8:01pm [Dine in]

If you're looking for cheap pizza by the slice and don't want to go downtown, Brado's is the place for you. For $1.40 you can get a slice of any pizza with a sesame seed crust for extra crispiness! I love the pesto pizza here and the crust stays crispy to the last bite. They also sell lasagna, wings, fries, basically comfort fast food. The ambiance isn't too great, but they do have a big screen tv! I went there this past weekend, and they were advertising "Coming Soon" persian bongs!

Really good
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 7:43pm [Dine in]

We visited Tio Pepe's (we aim to try all the restaurants on Commercial Drive) on a late Friday night. We were hungry and were walking by. Never knew this restaurant existed. Two of us ordered the tamale and another ordered the chicken enchilada. I thought my tamale was a little bit salty, while my friend who ordered the same thing, thought it was bland. So I really think it depends on what your taste buds are into. We all enjoyed our meals and really enjoyed the sangria! The service was top-notch. They were closing after we arrived. We didn't know this, and spent almost 1 1/2 hours there. They never complained once, and we would have never known that they were closed if he hadn't told us so. Still, he told us to take our time and not to rush, since he had to stay and do prep-work for the next day anyway. What service! And the decor of this little restaurant is such and experience! Traditional Mexican art and hand crafts donned the entire place.

Stepho's Greek Taverna1124 Davie St, Vancouver
Used to be better
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 7:07pm [Dine in]

I just went to Stepho's last night and though I enjoyed my dining experience, I was a little disappointed at the quality of our meals. I was with a party of six and in our area were 3 other tables. Everytime we asked our server for something, he would always respond, "It's a bad time right now, I'll be back." Even though there were many servers running around, only a handful of them took orders. So when our server was busy and we asked someone else, they would always tell us we need to speak with our waiter for our requests. I also remember the food tasting much better. The rice was pretty hard, almost tasted uncooked. The calamari was overdone and a little bit chewy. On the upside, my dolmades and homous were excellent. The portion size and price remains the same as I remembered years ago. Stepho's is still a great restaurant where value is obviously important to them. Be prepared to be in line outside for a seat!

Best burritos on the fly!
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

I love Steamrollers on a weekend evening! The ambiance is pretty cold looking (everything is white and/or bright orange), but then again, I can't expect much from a fast food joint. And besides, the food makes up for it! I always go for either the Tommy or the roller combo with soup. The tortilla soup is one of the best soups I've ever had. Careful though, it's spicy!

Great Indian Restaurant in Burnaby
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 6:52pm [Dine in]

I went to this Indian restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. I was really pleasantly surprised at the ambiance of the place. It is a very spacious, but warm place. The service was great, but not many people were there at the time. Both or meals were prepared with excellent quality.
