Marcello Pizzeria1404 Commercial, Vancouver
Still nice pizza and service, but for the rest...
Submitted Friday, August 14, 2009 - 11:29am [Dine in]

Came by Marcello's a couple times for dinner in the last few months. The pizza we ordered was really delicious, and we made a bunch of modifications to it, so great work pizza guy!

The pasta was a really small portion, even though it was a "small" it looked teensy. There also seemed to be some tension coming from the kitchen, I think the staff sometimes forget that the whole restaurant can see/hear them!

The ambiance is nice except that the floor seemed more unswept than usual and my chair had some sauce on it that I didn't see until I went to the washroom, really glad I was wearing black!

Our server was a very nice girl and made us feel like she cared, which is clearly a bit rare at this place.

I think there will be a next time for this spot, it just might be take out back to my clean, relaxed house.

Sake Maki1414 Commercial Dr., Vancouver
Favourite Sushi spot in the city!
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:15pm [Dine in]

I know a great meal awaits me every time at Sake Maki. They usually have one server on during the day which can cause a small wait, btu aside from that it's lovely. The rolls are solid, the tempura is always delicious, and they have the nice pickled ginger that actually LOOKS like ginger (instead of that nasty aspartame-ridden pink crap!).

Also have a decent drink list - sake mojito is tasty.

I don't know about Best quality...
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:11pm [Dine in]

I admit I heard a lot of hype about this place. I ventured down and bought some sweets and an entree. I was surprised at how cheap the bill was, nice!

The food, however, did not convince me to go back, I have had fresher tasting, more flavourful food at other indian spots like Nirvana on Main. The interior looks grungy and the lighting is awful...maybe I just ordered the wrong menu items?

Super cool spot.
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:06pm [Dine in]

I love sitting in this restaurant with the plants and artwork. It's a nice break from the crazy downtown scene outside. The staff usually seem energetic and happy to be there. The food seems a bit pricey but it's a neat concept and I know freshness is very key for this kind of food and expensive. I love love love the variety of blended shakes they offer, I try a new one each time. Falafel is also scrumptious. What surprises me about this food is how much it fills you up!

My one suggestion would be to expand the menu, a lot of eyes could be opened to the potential variety in the raw vegan diet.

Yum yum yum!
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 1:57pm [Dine in]

I have been into Stix several times pretty much start craving it as soon as I leave. The ingridients are fresh, everything tastes great - best spring rolls ever! and it is kept nice and clean, even the washroom. Once when I went the spring rolls felt slightly greasy, but every other time they were perfect. The staff are efficient and pleasant, I always feel welcome. A tasty, healthier choice on the drive!

Lovely Pub Night
Submitted Thursday, March 12, 2009 - 3:37pm [Dine in]

I went to this place for my birthday - we ordered some wine and appies. I was surprised at how much food we got! The cauliflower and hummus plate was delish! Service was also good, our server was very polite and pleasant. All around, I was really impressed with this place and I intend to make it a regular haunt.

Libra Room1608 Commercial Dr, Vancouver
Way cool spot, fabulous music
Submitted Sunday, August 24, 2008 - 4:38am [Dine in]

I went to the Libra room a few nights ago with a large group or friends. The drink list is great, and everything we drank was well priced and delicious (also liked the way the drink list is named by zodiac symbol) however we were too late to order food. The room itself is very cool, lighting is excellent and the all around vibe is fun, loud, and trendy. Service was good despite the huge amount of people there - our server was very speedy and nice. Definitely a good place to go out and drink and enjoy good music.

Olympia Pizza3205 West Broadway, Vancouver
Dated decor, but the food totally rocks!
Submitted Wednesday, June 4, 2008 - 1:51am [Dine in]

I went to Olympia a couple weeks ago after a friend's graduation. We were in a large group but the server was quick and readily filling our drinks and orders. The inside of the place feels a bit old - but the food makes you forget all of this. In effort to continue my non-dairy/vegetarian transition I ordered the vegetarian moussaka. The nutmeggy spinachy flavours made my mouth quite happy, even having scraped off as much of the bechamel sauce as I could. The rest of the group ordered pizza and lamb. The pizza eaters were inclined to agree with the staff that it may be the best pizza in Vancouver - the lamb eater was in happy lamblickin heaven. Great value all around, you can see why it has been there for such a long time.

Lovely Lunch
Submitted Wednesday, June 4, 2008 - 1:41am [Dine in]

I journeyed to dharma kitchen for the first time with a friend on a rainy day for lunch. The menu seemed full of delicious concoctions. We both ordered burgers with different sides and they were excellent. Texture, flavour, perfectly sauced and paired with fitting veggie toppings. I really like the calming atmosphere - quiet monk chanting music and just the right amount of attention from our server who made sure to fill up my companions water quickly after she emptied it (girl drinks a LOT of H2O). I also ordered one of their house specialty chai drinks...it was just what I needed on a rainy summer day! I felt prices were more than fair - a filling, healthy lunch cost us about 12 dollars each. This is a great spot to show carnivorous friends how delicious an organic vegan meal can be, I can't wait to journey there again soon.

Boneta12 Water Street, #115, Vancouver
A must visit for all food/wine enthusiasts
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 6:15pm [Dine in]

My most spectacular night at Boneta was for my brithday recently. First off, the inside of the space has interesting art work and mirrors on the ceiling angled in such a way that you can't really spy on any of the other tables. The food blew my tastebuds away. I had buffalo carpaccio that melted in my mouth; the quails eggs and balsamic vinegarish sauce went along with it beautifully. I tried a dorado dish second which was just outright lovely - perfectly cooked fish and succulent risotto. I love the wine list, you can try most by the glass which is a nice option for a table of red, white, and non drinkers. The staff were the cherry on top of this evening; their talented rendition of happy birthday was brilliant to the point that I was too entertained to be embarrased. (And what a lovely glass of bubbly for me to sip on while they sang!) My favorite fine dining experience, hands down.

I love this (juice) bar!
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 6:01pm [Dine in]

I now understand what it is to be 'Sejuiced'. For what this place is, a happy healthy-food haven, it is superb. i walked in a few days ago in the afternoon looking for lunch. I tried an Exotica smoothie and a veggie burger with salad. The smoothie was creamy coconut-mango gloriousness and the burger was nice and moist and packed with flavour. The side salad was enough to fill me right up and the limey dressing was very refreshing. I was served quickly but a few tables were left unbussed for a long time. I like the airy, colourful atmosphere and the little cards on the tables which decree the health benefits of the various extra-healthy shots they offer. I look forward to returning for breakfast soon.

Great start to a night out in Gastown, I'll be back!
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 5:53pm [Dine in]

A friend and I popped into The Greedy Pig in Gastown a few nights ago to see what it was like. It was not very busy and we were quickly seated and placing drink orders. I love their whiskey-based drink menu which makes for some satisfying spiciness in their cocktails. Cocktail size was also pretty big which is nice. They were just making a new batch of stew so I tried a buffalo mozza-eggplant panino and my friend tried their pulled pork sandwich. They were on the smaller side but the flavours were outstanding. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and eager to return and show more friends this neat little spot.

Great Neighbourhood Restaurant, Go give it a try!!!
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 5:45pm [Dine in]

I went to Enigma with some family and friends recently and was pleasantly surprised. It has a nicely lit and casual atmosphere; I like it when the chef can see into most of the room. The service is quick and efficient. I found the food and wines fairly priced and delicious. I ordered a spicy thai prawn dish which was a decent size and yummy. The others with me also raved about their meals. We took a slice of cheesecake home and it didn't survive to the following morning. I am looking very forward to going there again and again!

Nachos are OUTSTANDING, second course not so good.
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 5:38pm [Dine in]

I went with a friend to the foundation a week ago. I am making an effort to include more vegetarian meals in my diet and was very excited to be inspired there. When we walked in I liked the laid-back style with inspirational quotes on the walls and servers in gray tank tops. We ordered the nachos with guacamole to start. I think they put coconut milk or something in the guac - the dish is practically perfect and huuuge for two people. After that I was eagerly anticipating my entree which was a quinoa, spinach, and tofu dish with a maple tahini sauce. The quinoa was quite dry and the dish was quite oversauced and sickly sweet to the point that I didn't even bother to have it wrapped up. Service was slow but the place was lined up outside the door so perhaps I just ordered the wrong entree?

Cafe Zen1631 Yew St, Vancouver
Go there for the hangover ambrosia, not for speedy service
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 5:30pm [Dine in]

I had a fantastic breakfast one Friday morning at Cafe Zen. I had buckwheat pancakes with raspberry sauce and my friend had the eggs benny. The full order of pancakes was tons of food and although they forgot my sauce initially they ended up bringing it a few minutes later. The two girls working were visibly overwhelmed once the place started to fill up so I think it's best to get there as early as possible if you are heading to school or work afterward.

Staff seem dazed, good thing eats are tasty
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 5:24pm [Dine in]

I took a few less food-adventurous pals to Yew York a week or so ago. We had a wide selection of food including a mushroom pizza, mascarpone prawns, and butter chicken. The pizza was just spicy enough and the prawns were finger licking good. The staff seemed a bit disorganized (one server had no idea what the wine I ordered tasted like) and slow despite the few full tables. The ambience was awkward as we were the only ones seated inside; the rest of the customers were out on the patio. Parking was a challenge but I ended up finding a spot two blocks away.

Nice spot, portions small as expected
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 5:15pm [Dine in]

I dropped by this bakery a few nights ago with a dessert craving. The service was a bit slow but it allowed but it allowed me to peruse the beautiful and varied assortment of scrumptious goods. This is a great spot to get a little midweek treat or a cake for a weekend dinner party. Their three fruit mousse is light and lovely. Portions are a bit small if you buy by the slice but it's probably for the best!
