Two words are enough to sum up my impression of this place, poor quality. My visit to Banana Leaf was a total disappointment.
The food was bland regardless of asking for extra spicy, the ice katchan was more or a warm soup than a cold dessert. Service was subpar and seemed insincere at times.
I had heard great things about the place before heading there but I feel the quality and service must have headed south after the initial success of the place. The most sicken part is I had to wait for almost an hr for a table. This will be the first and last time I go to Banana Leaf. There are many better South East Asian Restuarants in Vancouver.

This is by far the best Singaporean restuarant I've been to outside Singapore. The ice katchan was perfect and value for money. Best of all they know what spicy means.
Had the roti, chicken satay, hotplate tofu and prawns, fish in ginger sause, spicy kangkong. Only complaint with the food was that the curry that is served with the roti is sub par. Prefered to curry at Banana Leaf, though the roti there was too sweet. Other than this one side dish the dinner was perfect.
For dessert we had Ice Katchan, Chendol and Sago in gula melaka. This was another delight, the best Singaporean/Malaysia dessert I've ever had.
Lighting was ample and the music wasn't on too loud. We were able to have a relaxing conversation. Waters were constantly refilled. The waitress was very professional. Chairs did look very cute and comfy, would have spent a lot longer if we didn't have a flight to catch.
I will definitely return the next time I'm in town. At least for the ice katchan. Much better quality than banana leaf.
