Joe Fortes Seafood & Chop House777 Thurlow Street, Vancouver

I went to the restaurant recently and I have to say I was really underwhelmed. The service was quite slow and the food we decided upon was average at best. I had a tuna dish as my main, and not only was the tuna quite potent (I was always under the impression fresh tuna shouldn't be so strong), the rice was undercooked and crispy. All in all, not worth the pricey bill either.

To be honest, I think you can probably get better fish dishes at other places nearby.

Good, But Pricey
Submitted Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 10:42pm [Dine in]

This place is nice but to me it is just a classed up Guu. The food is similar although the prices are higher at Kingyo.

Nice to check out if you haven't eaten food like this but I think I'd stick to Guu overall.

Actually Seeing Food Would Be Nice

I'll start off by saying that I have eaten here before and it has been average. Just OK. The last time I went there put the proverbial nail in the coffin when it comes to this restaurant.

We sat down and waited a good 5-10 minutes to be served by our disinterested server. She asked for our drink order and sensing a lack of attention we decided to order everything at once. 10 mins later the drinks show up. A further 10 mins later our server left the restaurant, "looking for chicken". That was the last we saw of her. Looking about the restaurant we saw lots of people without any service, including one server sat on a free table head down on the top looking sick. I hope he hadn't eaten there.

We left a $10 and left. Don't bother going. Just go to Maria's Taverna across the street; better food and some resemblance of service i.e. someone does it.

All OK, But What Is With The Smell?
Submitted Saturday, June 30, 2007 - 11:50am [Dine in]

Overall, the food, service, and sports on the TV are fine. But I wanted to use this review to just comment on the smell in the pub. It really stinks of cooking oil, which is really offputting. I know a lot of people who used to go there don't anymore because it smells so much.

Anyway, I just wanted to make that comment. Other than that, it is a typical pub with decent food.

Solid Breakfast Stuff
Submitted Saturday, June 30, 2007 - 11:43am [Dine in]

I have only been into Central for breakfast and overall it is pretty good. I have never had any real complaints with the food, it is always good and dependable. The service is generally good although it tends to fall down pretty fast when it gets busy. There sometimes doesn't seem to be much order in which people are running tables, and I have on several occasions not been served for up to 10-15 minutes.

Overall though, it's good. Next step: check out the dinner meals...
