This was my second time back after proposing there earlier this year and I decided to bring my mom and dad as well as my aunt and uncle to their schnitzel night. They had their regular menu but also several choices for schnitzel, all for $12.99. I had a three course entree starting with duck salad, then schnitzel holstein and blueberry bread pudding for dessert.
The duck salad was duck breast slices with a glazed orange sauce, with arugula, roma tomatoes and asparagus. Very tasty and a light starter considering the main course and the duck was excellent.
The schnitzel holstein was basically a very large portion of schnitzel with egg and capers on top. All the schnitzel dishes came on a bed of roasted potatoes and red cabbage (loved the cabbage!) as well as their specific toppings. The schnitzel portion was quite large and very tasty, the best I've tried. Everything worked quite well together.
I thought I was full after all that schnitzel - until the dessert menu came around. I chose the blueberry bread pudding which came with fresh blueberries on top of the bread pudding and ice cream. It was a very good alternative to a sweet/sugary dessert and finished off the meal perfectly.
All in all, the meals themselves were very good and considering the special on the schnitzel was reasonably priced. It would have been very hard for him to top my previous meal there (pulled out all the stops for that one, had duck confit also with duck breast which was one of the top 5 meals I've ever had) but did an excellent job.
The service was also very good, attentive without once interrupting us and informative on any questions we had about the menu. The atmosphere is very nice, upscale with varying light and dark browns as well as reds, and the decorations and seating were well done and comfortable. Depending on where you sit, the background noise can be just right or a little louder, although the music was always the perfect level.
I'd highly recommend Lava Dining and Lounge, either for one of their affordable special nights (schnitzel on Tuesdays and prime rib for $21.99 on Fridays) or to go off the regular menu for some high-end cuisine.
