Jonker Street Restaurant1128 Pacific Blvd, Vancouver
Home-cooked Malaysian
Submitted Tuesday, February 5, 2008 - 8:41pm [Dine in]

Having been to Malacca (home of the REAL Jonker Street) I was curious as to how the cuisine of this new Vancouver restaurant stacks up against the ORIGINAL. I have tried all the appetizers and found them to be satisfactory Malay taste. Of the soups, the Nonya Laksa is by far the most excellent! I will mark this as "my Laksa restaurant".

Of the main course meat and seafood dishes I have tried, I thought the prawn sambal and beef rendang are excellent. There is hardly any better beef rendang in Vancouver. Since I have been disappointed by too many Malaysian restaurants here, I will also mark this place as "my beef rendang restaurant."

Saving the best for last, try the bah kut teh served every 3rd week (check with restaurant). It is worth cutting work early to try - trust me.

Overall, the place is immaculate clean and the staff, especially the owner, give a good vibration. The place is actually a little piece of the original Jonker Street right here in our town...
