A terrific chinese restaurant, run by a very friendly family. Decor is lovely and tasteful. Service is fantastic. When they first opened, I was extremely happy with their food and it was very close to authentic chinese, especially for West Van. I went often for dine-in and take-out. They try to make their diners happy. For some reason, I bought take out a few months ago, and the taste of the food kind of changed, to more of a Western chinese flavor (to my dismay). This might only be temporary; I have not been back to try again, yet. Service was still wonderful. Worth a visit.
Been to a few Cupcake stores. All were the same result as this one. Was hoping that this new location would be a little better than the others, but I was disappointed. Many people here have complained that it is too dry. I would agree. While the presentation is great, and service was fine, the cupcakes themselves were the worst I have ever had. You would think they would know how to make a good cupcake, since it is their name-sake. Very expensive for a very dry cupcake.
Went with my mom for just a cup of take out coffee. Walked in and was shocked at how run-down the place looked! There were huge rips, and I mean huge rips on the seats of chairs. It wasn't my all time fav place to go when it opened, but it was ok, and I liked the location, the food was standard, not great but ok. Now is a whole different story. Mom bought two Tall cups of take out coffees. I picked up one, and the paper cup it was in was so thin, even with the cup cuff, that the wall collapsed and the hot coffee spilt all over my hand. I had to rush to the washroom to put out the scalding burn. I took a closer look at the cup, and it was very very thin. Since it was tall, it made a difference, if it was the smaller shorter one, not so much. I went to the lady behind the serving counter and inquired. She said the cups were "standard", This is not true. I go to many other coffee houses ranging from large franchises to small momandpop businesses etc a lot, and i have NEVER had this prob because their cups are adequate, even without the cuffs. I said to her, I don't think so, and all she gave me was a dirty look, even after I told her the coffee burnt my hand. She didn't even offer to mention it to the manager. I would have been even ok with that. So thats it. I will never go back. Another customer heard all this and agreed. So obviously I rated the service as poor, value as poor because not only do you get a cheap thin cup, but the quality of the coffee is not worth getting hurt for it. Had food in the past, and it was mediocre (nothing special).
