This is a regular spot for lunch, and the ever changing daily specials ($9.95) are invariably well-thought out and outstanding quality. The soups in particular are unusual and extremely tasty. Sandwiches are made from very fresh ingredients, but the standard portion is a half-sandwich. We have always found the bread to be very fresh and appetizing.
Go for the quality, not the quantity.
This was on our regular list until about thee months ago. Although service has remained good and it is a typical Earl's decor, the food has gone downhill the last couple times. The steak was below the quality you expect - it had been clearly tenderized and was more like a $9.95 steak special at a roadside diner. The coffee has also gone downhill. Considering the competition in this price range, not really recommended.
We have been visiting this restaurant regularly (several times a year) since we found out about it six or seven years ago. The food is very consistently good and excellent value. The sushi and sashimi dinners have a good selection of large pieces. The teriyaki dishes come in two versions - a full dinner and a basic dinner with rice and miso soup but without salad and dessert. The latter is a particularly good value.
The interior is totally western - booths and tables, no tatami mats.
