Totally Well Worth It
Submitted Friday, May 17, 2013 - 10:58am [Dine in]

Ok, so I used a Group for this place, therefore got $15 off my food. But I have to admit, that even without the Groupon it was still a pretty good deal.

I came in on Tuesday the 7th of May right when the pub opened. It was empty, but what do you expect on a Tuesday morning?

I went and sat at the upper part of the pub / restaurant and my waitress of course give me a while to look at the menu. Since I had the groupon, I had decided to order both entree and an appetizer.

For Appetizer, I rodered the buffalo chicken wings, and for entree I ordered a double burger (Light Mayonaisse) and fries and a Pepsi to drink. My appetizer of wings came out first and I thought they were delicious. They were average price. It was good.

When my entree came I was pleasantly surprised. The beef patties were huge....I was really suprised and they were flavourful....just honest to goodness delicious.....I couldn't even finish it off and had to take a quarter of it home. I couldn't believe how good the food was here.

Regular price would had been just under $28, but paid only $15 with the Groupon. I was happy and the service was great too. Will definatly return

Kinda went downhill
Submitted Saturday, March 2, 2013 - 2:37pm [Dine in]

It has been over a year that I have been to an IHOP, my last experience I noticed there was a decline in food, but that was not why I had not returned (After all, it was a new location in Vancouver we had gone to and felt, as them being rookies, it wouldn't be fair to leave a mediocre to bad review)

Anyhow, last Saturday I came here with a friend of mine before going to the movies at Metrotown. I ordered a double cheeseburger with fries, and my friend ordered a french toast platter. Coming here in the past, my friends and I liked this place and thought the food was divine, that we would even take spoonfuls of syrup and try them (Yeah I know kinda gross, but even the syrup was to die for back then)

We tried it again while waiting for our food (well, not really too great) anyhow, my double burger came, as did my friends French Toast. they didn't put alot of fries on my plate, but when I complained, they gave me more fries (so no problems here) but the burger lacked the great taste that it used to have.....it wasn't bad or anything, but lacked that special flavour for sure.

Anyhow, when we paid for our bill the guy at the counter asked us how or food was. I was honest and said "just ok" He did mention, that burgers are not really thier specialty and it is more of a breakfast place (to which I agreed) so....he did talk me into coming back again, but this time I will only order thier pancakes, and hope they are as good as I last remembered them

Pathetic and a total waste of everything
Submitted Friday, February 8, 2013 - 9:37am [Dine in]

Yesterday`s evening visit to KFC was a total dissapointment.

A friend of mine and I were trying to decide where to eat. We originally had planned to go to "Red Robin's" but because my friend was literally short on cash and had KFC Coupons, we had decided to come here (What a mistake that was)

We had a coupon for two 3 piece meals for $12.99. My friend didn't care what pieces he got, but I specifically asked for a Rib, a breast and a wing and Mega size my fries and instead of salad, I wanted an additional order of fries, but the cashier told me (and checked with the back) that I could not have additional evefries because it was a coupon and I would have to have a salad (I chose Macaroni) I also got a Pepsi and my friend got a Diet Pepsi. In addition, I got a Street Wise Chicken burger for $3.99

When we got to his place, not only did we discover, that the chicken was soooo tiny, but instead of a rib, they put in a thigh (I hate thighs, but I ate it anyways and it sucked) however, the breast and the wing tasted good....but seriously, the wing was so tiny.....It was probably a bit bigger that the type you would get in a pack at Safeway (it was just too small) the breast was ok sized and the thigh was terrible. I am sure if we dined in though, they would exchange the thigh and give me what I asked for. Oh yeah and the Macaroni salad was a poor excuse....I'm not kidding or exaggerating when I say that was "THE WORST" Macaroni salad that I had ever had. The Street Wise Chicken burger was ok.

My friend also ordered a small popcorn chicken, which they forgot to put in, but luckily they didn`t charge us.....maybe next time the cashier will listen. I honestly wonder why the cashier didn`t review or confirm our order with us like they do at every other fast food place. That really did ruin our meal, in addition to thier high prices and tiny chicken

In all fairness, the food tastes good (Probably because it's loaded wtih chemicals) but the portions and price as I said, is ridicoulous.

Don't think I will return.......I think I will just go to Church's Chicken instead....bigger pieces and better value there (Not as tasty though, but over all better than KFC) Wish we had gone to Wendy`s or even McDonald`s instead

Solidly good.
Submitted Tuesday, January 22, 2013 - 10:34pm [Dine in]

Today a friend and I had decided to come to 'Swiss Chalet' for lunch. It has been a couple of years since either of us had been, so we were kind of excited to try it again.

Upon entering, the large restgaurant was pretty quiet with only a couple of taqbles being occupied (It was around 3:00 anyways, so perhaps it was before the dinner rush would come) the waitress seated us at a nice location and all, but we were a little surprised that they didn't just allow us to seat ourselves anywhere in the restaurant given that there were only one or two other tables being occupied (but oh well)

The waitress gave us time to look at our menu, and we had finally decided what we were going to order.

I ordered the quarter chicken (All white meat) and 1/2 rack ribs combo with fries and a bit of coleslaw. My friend had ordered a chicken quesadilla with no fries, but added coleslaw. I ordered a Pepsi to drink, but my friend just stuck with water.

Our food took longer than it takes at most other restaurant chains, and considering that it was slow we were kind of surprised (but, I believe it is a healthier alternative to other regular chains, so perhaps they take more time and pride with their food) However, we were not too pleased that we saw tables (including our own) without cutlery, and we had to go to a un occupied table and snatch some cutlery from there.

Anyhow, the food came. I also got a side of Chalet Sauce (which is pretty much cinnamon gravy) our food was pretty good and enjoyable, but the Chalet Sauce was not great at all. and my friend couldn't finish one of her quesadillas, so let me have it. It was good, but seemed to have more bell peppers in it than actual chicken.

All in all, except for the slow service, the food was pretty good and we did have a good time.

We will be back

Awesome Birthday Dinner......Thanks
Submitted Monday, January 7, 2013 - 2:29am [Dine in]

Came here tonight with a friend and my two nephews. We were seated immediatly, and had the pleasure of getting a *VERY FRIENDLY* waiter. He started by welcoming us to the restaurant and making us laugh. I was very impressed with him. It was just great how he made us feel so welcomed in the restaurant and took the time to have small talk with us

Anyhow, we preceeded to order. We ordered a ceasar salad and chicken fingers to all share for starters. For dinner, my friend ordered a spaghetti and a coke to drink, and me and my nephews ordered lasange with extra cheese and a coke to drink. Our appetizers came and the chicken fingers really good. The ceasar salad I hate to admit was mediocre and not great at all.

Anyhow, entrees came soon after we finished the appetizers. We were VERY impressed with the lasange, it was very delicious and lots of garlic bread to accomany it. my friend who ordered spaghetti said it tasted pretty good.

My friend had mentioned at the table also that it was my birthday, and without expecting anything, the waiter came and pleasantly surprised me with a piece of cake and they sang "Happy Birthday" to me. This really made me feel special, and I enjoyed the cake very much.

Even without the cake, the service was soooo good, that it made my birthday special regardless, but the bringing of the cake just made it phenominally better.

Thank you so much to the waiter and to Minerva's for hiring the waiter who made my birthday dinner special

They probably just use the "Baskin Robbins" name for their ice cream
Submitted Friday, January 4, 2013 - 3:14pm [Dine in]

I have only eaten thier ice cream so can't say anything about thier food. I had driven by this place several times and thought "Hey cool,. they still have some Baskin Robbins locations" anyhow, I finally had time to go by and get some ice cream from this place. As soon as I walked in, I saw this diner / cafeteria and I was like "WTF?" they have a little area where you can order ice cream. I though "ok, i'll try it"
you're better of going to McDon
This is seriously NOT the Baskin Robbins that I know of. Sure, they real Baskin Robbins stores have been gone for about 10 years, but was kinda hoping they had kept the same recipe.

My guess is, that Mr and / or Ms Baskin Robbins sold thier Canadain Franchaise to "Friendly Banners" and they just use the same name with thier own recipe. The ice cream is NOT terrible, but it definatly is no where near as good as Baskin Robbins would be.

I still think it's cool, that there is still "TECHNICALLY" a Baskin Robbins out there, but you're better of going to McDonald's or even better yet, Dairy Queen for ice cream

Had a great time here on New Years Eve
Submitted Tuesday, January 1, 2013 - 6:02am [Dine in]

We were a group of 8 - 9 friends who decided to come here for a New Years Eve dinner, before heading out to a New Years Eve dance in East Vancouver. Unfortunatly because of a mis-communication some of the party ended up at the 10th Avenue location, and some of us ended up here (by the time we figured this out, everyone just decided to stay where they were.....which was ok)

Anyhow, we arrived at about 9:00, and the waitress set the table for 9 people, and seated us.....but when we found out that half of the party was at the 10th avenue location, we asked to be moved to a smaller section (to which the waitress cheerfully did for us)

The waitress took our drink orders....I had a coke (being the designated driver) and the rest of my friends had a martini

A little later the waitress took our orders. Me and one of my friends had the full order of fettucini alfredo (I requested no bacon or peas in mine) and my other 2 friends had a burger with yam fries. I also ordered a chicken wings appetizer.

First came my order of wings. They were really delicious, unfortunatly there were some small pieces though (I think about 4 out of 13 pieces were small) Anyhow, they were delicious....waitress though forgot to bring the bowl of finger dip, so wasn't too impressed that I had to wipe my sticky hands on a napkin.

When our entrees came, we delighfully enjoyed our food. I myself thought that my fettucini alfredo didn't have enough alfredo sauce, so the waitress brought me more which enhanced the flavour and made it delicious. My friends all agreed that thier food was really good too. Service was a little slow, but it was New Years Eve, so it was busy (but our waitress was really friendly, so 4 stars for service) They remained opened until 2:00 for New Years and even had a balloon drop, but didn't stay for that, as we wanted to go dance on the dance floor.

But it really was a good time with good food and good friends (just too bad that some were at the other location) So we went to a dance party in East Vancouver later, while the party at 10th avenue ended up at "The Cove" bar......

Came here for my birthday and it sucked
Submitted Monday, December 31, 2012 - 3:37am [Dine in]

Yeah, I know this place closed down in 2009, but why not write a review anyways.....after all, people do like to read.

Anyhow, I have to admit, that I was a good customer here for several years and did enjoy thier food, but when I came for my birthday in 2008, why I don't know but my burger AND fries sucked. Did the previous chef quit? did they fire him and get some other lousy cook? I had tried a little bit of one of my friends fettucini alfredo and must admit that that was good. But the burger went from phenominal to sucky.....and they closed a year later and seeing these other reviews I am guessing that they hired some cook that doesn't know how to cook well, or just didn't care.....probably why they had to close down

Can be a Hit or Miss, but great with a Groupon
Submitted Friday, December 28, 2012 - 12:25am [Dine in]

I have been here several times actually. The first few times I found the food to be phenominally fantastic, but the last couple of times it was ok to good (but not great)

I came in September of 2012 (so yeah, this year) with 2 friends. One friend ordered the Chicken Cassorole, another friend ordered the Spinach Dip and I ordered a double hamburger, chicken strips and a cranberry juice.

My friend shared her Spinach dip with all of us....It wasn't that great. and my friend who ordered the chicken cassorole said it was good, but NOT worth the $14 that she paid, and for some reason my double burger was not really that great (but not bad) The chicken strips were a dissapointment however (I would seriously rather go to 7 - Eleven and just buy chicken strips there) and my cranberry juice was almost $4 and non-refillable.

Anyhow, because of the Groupon deal, we decided to come back tonight and give this place another try with a friend of mine. I ordered a chicken wings appetizer, a double hamburger and a coke. My friend ordered a Spaghetti and meat balls entree.

Our waitress was VERY friendly, but it took FOREVER for our food to come. First came my appetizer of wings. I got 10 pieces of wings...They were good, but regular price was $10.89 (think that is just a little too steep, but suppose alot of restaurants charge that) but in all fairness, they did taste good.

Then came our main courses. My friend said that his spaghetti and meat balls tasted good, but the meat balls were too salty. My burger was pretty good and had good flavour. I think the fries though were still good were not as good as they used to be. Oh, and fries are re-fillable

So our meal regular price turned out to be $47.55 minus $40 for the groupon, but plus $20 that I previously paid TOTAL $27.55

So to pay $27.55 total for all that food really wasn't a bad deal.

However, if I were paying regular price, I would compare this place to Knight and Day restaurant or maybe even Denny's but a fancier version of it.

I would come back here once in awhile at regular prices, but with the groupon it really is a great deal (How can you argue $20 off your meal)

There is a 7 - Eleven next door if you need some food
Submitted Tuesday, December 18, 2012 - 5:05pm [Dine in]

This review is overdue, but did want to write something actually.

I have been here three times. Twice in 2006 and once in the end of 2009

The first time the food was actually good. I enjoyed it. The second time, I didn't really enjoy it much because I could smell the onions cooking (I don't like onions) but I am sure asides from the smell bothering me, that it was good.

Anyhow, for the decor (we will get to food afterwards) I do like the decor of the restaurant, as it is nostalgic. They even painted thier walls, and the degrading/atrocious washroom even had a little touch up (too my surprise they got rid of barred soap and now have liquid soap (at least the very last time I was there) Anyhow, I did give ambiance a 4 star, because I like the nostalgic dinning area, but the washroom gets no more than a 2 (considering they did a little touch up on the washroom)

Anyhow, now for the food. I returned again last year, and what the heck was that thing that you served me which you call food?

I mean really, I come to a restaurant to enjoy food and good taste..... I myself who have never worked in a restaurant before prefer my own cooking

I had come with a friend and I ordered the 2 cheeseburger and fries special, and he had the silver dollar pancakes.

NOTHING WAS DONE RIGHT. The burger was just plain atrocious, even the fries tasted horrible. I tired a bit of my friends pancakes. They were a little bit better that my burger, but still not what I would expect.

How could they mess up so badly on food (even french fries) Yes, I did give value a 4, but only because the price is cheap, but I do NOT believe you get what you pay for here.

Anyhow, if you are in this area, and want food there is a 7 - Eleven right next door. they sell burgers and subs that are at least mediocre

All I can say is that Bino's is *NOT* what it used to be, the food (If you want to call it that) is just BLEH!

Anyhow, fair and honesty is fair....this was 3 years ago, so maybe things changed, but thought I would write a review anyways

Came here this past August with a friend of mine after coming back from Point Roberts to fill up on gas and do some grocery shopping.

Upon entering we liked the decor of the Ambiance....We were seated immediatly, as it was early to mid afternoon and there were only a few patrons in the restuarant.

Anyhow, I had ordered a chicken strip appetizer and a cheeseburger meal, and my friend had ordered the pancake breakfast meal. Our food didn't take too long to come. I like the texture of the burger and everything tasted good. It was a little expensive, but I guess that's ok.

I think we'll come back again

It's ok, but only once in awhile
Submitted Sunday, December 16, 2012 - 3:35pm [Dine in]

I come to this place on occasion, as I do enjoy the food, but unfortunatly, the price is too expensive for what the food is worth.

From what I understand, this place was really "IN" particularily with the night crowds in the 80's and early to mid 90's....I can understand it being convenient, and it is a good alternative to Denny's, but just with the prices were cheaper.

I usually get a double cheeseburger or fettucini alfredo....I have to admit, that both dishes are good....it's been awhile since I had the burger. I remember when the previous owner owned this place, the burger tasted like it was house-made. I have been here twice since the new owners have come. Once ordering the double cheeseburger and another time the fettucini alfredo.

I enjoyed the food even with the new owners, but as I said before, the price is expensive.

Conclusion: I'll be back, as this place does have a nice feel to it, and I do like the food, but only once in awhile

Excellent Food and Great Times Every Time
Submitted Saturday, December 15, 2012 - 11:49pm [Dine in]

I have been here numerous times and always get the "All You Can Eat Fish and Chips" (Polock) and endless fries and Soda Pop as well.....

I have to admit that the deal is pretty good (not the best type of fish, but for All you can eat $11.99....it's a steal of a deal) It tastes great for what it is. Presentation of the food could be a little bit better, and to be completely honest, don't expect it to be quite as good as "White Spot" but seriously, for $11.99 All you can eat (fries and Pop included) I'm telling you it's a terrific deal and a better value than "White Spot"

Anyhow, I came here on Thursday and for the first time I decided to order the 2 salmon dinner with fries....Pop NOT included... So I paid almost $15 for the 2 salmons with fries, plus $3 for endless pop and I got the 4 piece prawn special at $1.99 (had 2 of those) Every December for the whole month they have the 4 piece prawn special for $1.99 (and if I am not mistaken, they donate $1.00 the the Childrens hospital from the Prawn Special sale)

Anyhow, the Salmon was just magnificent (oh my gosh it was TASTY) and the prawns were just terrific....Even though I paid more for a meal like that, Man was it worth it....just divine, enjoyed the whole thing.

Anyhow, ratings between the two meals.

All you can Eat

Food: 3 - 3.5 / 5

Service: 3/5

Value: 5/5

Ambiance: 4/5 (Yes, it's a small restaurant, but I like it)

Salmon Dinner:

So ither way, I like this place no matter what I order. Will definetly return

Great night for good fish and chips in Steveston...really great time
Submitted Sunday, December 2, 2012 - 6:55pm [Dine in]

I have been here about 5 or 6 times. I had come last week with a friend of mine and we were seated immediatly.

We started with drinks, both of us ordering a Pepsi. We then looked at our menus after the waiter brought our drinks he asked us if we were ready (we took a few minutes, but finally decided) I had ordered a 3 piece pan friend Cod with fries. plus extra piece of fish (no colseslaw) and my friend ordered a 2 piece Cod (regular)

Our waiter seemed very friendly and attentive, and brought to our attention that prices had gone down since I was last there, because the restaurant gets some sort of discount on thier fish (can't remember exactly) but it is great to know that they are passing thier savings on to the customers and not pocketing it all for themselves, and as an added bonus, because the restarant has a deal with thier supplier, they are now giving free refills on fries (again, it's great to know that they are passing thier savings to the customers)

Anyhow, on to the food. The food tasted really good, not too oily, but rather just enough for a melting satisfied taste....my friend reported that she really enjoyed her meal as well...it was worth every penny.

The restaurant closed at 8:00, but we were still finishing off beverages and talking....Told the waiter to feel free to kick us out at anytime, but he told us not to worry and to just enjoy our food and our time at the establishment. We stayed until about 8:45.

It was a really good food and a good time. Thank you. Will return and recommended

Service wasn't all that great. Just the usual come, take our order, bring food, take our empty plates and then bring the bill. Didn't come to check up on us while eating to see if we needed anything else.

Came here today with a friend of mine. Upon arriving, w e were seated immediatly, I really liked our waitress. She was friendly and efficient and really made us feel very welcomed in the restaurant and was very knowledgeable as well.

Anyhow, I ordered a double cheeseburger and fries and my friend ordered french toast. Our food arrived about 10-15 minutes later. I must say, my double burger was *HUGE* and it was good, but not great. it lacked a little bit of flavour, but wasn't too bad. The fries on the other hand was a poor excuse, I mean WTF? they tasted terrible and dry. there were even some corner fries on the plate (please....I have only seen that at one other restaurant before, and maybe a few times at Wendy's but not in years) my beverage (Strawberry Fruitopia) was excellent though. I tried some of my friends french toast and it tasted good.

I thought the service was the best part, As I said, my burger wasn't bad, but I definatly have had better at many other restaurants.

Came here last Saturday for my cousins 30th birthday....Upon entering, I thought this place was pretty cool, because they have televisions and they show older video games as if someone invisible was playing nintendo on a large screen TV or something.

Anyhow, when the whole party arrived, we all ordered drinks followed by appetizers. I had ordered a Shirley Temple....it was below average.... It seemed to have lacked the grenadine it should have had. Then we all orderd appetizers. I had ordered the chicken bites with ranch sauce on the side...it wasn't bad, but they charge a freaking dollar for a ramikin of ranch sauce for my appetizer, when I think it should be complementary since I already spent $10 on a appetizer (Thank You) had I not ordered an appetizer and it was for my fries, then that would had been ok, but not charge me for sauce that should come with an appetizer.

Anyhow, for dinner, I ordered a double hamburger or cheeseburger (can't remember) with fries and they charged me $4 for an extra patty. They didn't put alot of fries on my plate, but did see that some people did get enough fries....I paid $16 for a double burger (the patties were no bigger than the size you would get at Denny's or Dairy Queen) it really wasn't worth the money for that size, if it had tasted phenominal, then that would be ok, but it was only average....I've gone to Milestones and have paid about that much more a much bigger patty...I felt totally cheated....$16 bucks for that? really? not to mention the appetizer and that below average Shirley Temple.

Yeah, unless I am invited to another birthday or some sort of other function I won't be back

Very good if not the best AYCE Sushi
Submitted Sunday, October 14, 2012 - 2:44pm [Dine in]

I patron here periodically with my cousin and some of my friends. It's pretty good food and the service is a little bit better than other AYCE sushi bars that we have gone to such as Sui Sha Ya where serivce there is average at best.

Anyhow, the staff here seems pleasant and friendly and though at times they may forget or simply not bring all items that we requested the last time we came (Last Tuesday) they didn't forget a single item (and we were a party of 4)...that was unusual, but nice

I noticed that they have a pretty good menu actually which great selection (of course it's menu A, B and C) so pretty much for AYCE everyone is entitled to Menu A, and then I think to go for menu A and B costs and additional $5 (Prices are different depending on what time of day you go....I think the most I paid for AYCE was about $23 including taxes...Menu A and B) but seriously for AYCE it is a good deal especially if you are a big eater. and they have lots of good food. My favourite is the tonkatsu, the chicken Karrage, thier BBQ wings and thier salmon...ALL TASTY and more. If you like Japanese and alot of it, I would definatly come to this place, and I notice the service is better than Sui Sha Ya.

Value? Well as I said before, it's all you can eat, so unless you are as thin as a stick and don't eat much, for around $20 to eat as much as you want warrents 5 stars for Value. I'm telling you it is very good food
