I've been to this restaurant a bunch of times over the last couple years and it's been consistent. I just stick with the burgers and fries because they've always been good. Some burgers are messier to eat than others but I like them. Bottomless fries, can't go wrong with that.
My wife varies her orders. Last time she ordered the Clucks and Greens. It was okay but the cheese bread hardly had any cheese.
Service is good. They're quick and attentive though the small talk when we get seated seems forced.
We heard of this all you can eat Indonesian restaurant and thought we would try it out since we really like satays. The first thing I thought when we got inside was how small it is. It can maybe sit 20 people.
The hostess (one of the owners I think) asked if we were going to have the all you can eat and we said yes. She pointed to the food in the corner and said to help ourselves. What?? That's it??!! There was just a table with a couple of food warmers you find at buffets in a wedding. We should have left but thought maybe there were other things for our $12 something like satay or roti....nope...just what we saw on the table.
The food was good...authentic I guess but so not worth the money. Lesson learned: find out what's included in a meal before starting.
New Town has the best steamed buns in Vancouver and it's no surprise that this place is packed every time I go there. There are even bums outside hoping that some one will give them a bun or some change to buy buns.
Their other stuff is also really good like the apple tarts that people have mentioned. And if you like egg tarts, they sell ones as big as a pie!
I've never sat down and eaten there so I can't comment on that.
I've been to several HK cafes around Metro Vancouver and this one is pretty good. The ambiance is definitely the best I've seen but the food is good depending on what you get.
Their menu size is alright but what HK cafes are best for are their combos (one dish plus drink). From this point of view, Boss is sorely lacking which is reflected in their value rating. They only have about 10 combos. Compare that to Kam Do who has at least 50.
The food was alright. We had the curry beef brisket and the meat platter. The curry was just okay...the spices in the sauce seemed premade from a jar. The platter was better than other places. It had a piece of steak that was cooked well, European sausage (other places usually has a regular hot dog), ham, bacon (can't go wrong with bacon), fried egg, spaghetti/rice, and broccoli.
Would I go back? Eh...maybe...I like to have a iced coffee with my meal and I don't feel like paying $3.50 extra for it.
I've been here quite a few times so my ratings are on an overall impression rather a one time experience.
When I crave noodle house style chinese food this is usually the place I think of going. It's not 'high' end like a Sun Sui Wai or Kirin or 'low' end like food court but in the middle like a No.9 or Hon's, though this place is much better than Hon's.
Their food is usually really good and at a good value. We've had our share of food issues, like a bug in the chow mein, but we did go back ...a month or two later.
The service is what it is. They show you to your table, they take your order, they serve you food, they take away finished plates/refill tea, they give you the check, and you leave. It's just like any other chinese restaurant.
We went there on Mother's Day and it was packed. The lineup was almost up to the plank so it took a while before we could order. The cashier was friendly and we got our food pretty fast.
The prices were on the high side, one and a half piece of cod plus fries was about $8. With just the fish it was a little over $5 so adding fries was ~$2.50. We also had the chowder which was ~$5.
The fish was alright...wasn't as crisp as I would have liked but it tasted good. The chowder had nice chucks of stuff in it but it needed more salt.
If the producers of Family Restaurant are looking for a restaurant around Metro Vancouver for next season, this place would be it. As others have mentioned, the hostess is constantly yelling and frantically pacing around the restaurant.
I've only been there for dim sum and it's pretty good. I've have yet to go there for dinner. I wonder if the hostess is as stressed at that time...
I've been here several times and I enjoyed the food each time. As others have said it's a small place and the lady that works at the front is always pleasant.
Their selection of pho is quite small and portions are alright. Their combos (see menu under glass at table) are a good value and very tasty.
The amount of food someone can get here for under $15 is quite incredible. It's HK cafe food so don't expect the best quality ingredients, just expect to get lots of it....like a huge bowl of macaroni with a choice of three different sides plus a drink.
Couple tips when going there to eat. One, parking is horrible so it's best to car pool. Two, there are refills for drinks so take advantage of that. Three, surprisingly they take reservations so book before hand if you know it's going to be busy.
I went there with three other people for lunch on a Saturday after they reopened for renovations...it was hard to notice any changes at all. It was quite busy so we had to wait for about 15 minutes before we got a seat.
I've been there in the past and not much has changed quality wise. The menu items are different from what I remember (ex. no chicken knees!!). It's all you can eat so you can't expect the greatest food. Comparing it with other AYCE places, it's about average. I'm guessing some stuff is cooked before hand as some things we ordered were lukewarm.
Service wasn't too bad considering how busy they where. Overall I'd go back but there are plenty of other AYCE places around that one doesn't have to go out of their way just to eat sushi here
My wife and I decided to try the place out after seeing the decent reviews on the site and we have the entertainment book so we figured to use that up. Boy was I glad we didn't pay full price. Seriously, $20 for a medium?
I didn't like the pizza at all...the crust was like cardboard and it just tasted weird in general.
