Azul Restaurant27010 Fraser Hwy, Langley
A Great Place to Eat & Hang Out! The Owners are Great Too!
Submitted Wednesday, October 20, 2010 - 9:46pm [Dine in]

The Azul Restaurant is a relatively new fine dining Restaurant along Fraser Hwy. It's located near the Langley/Aldergrove border. It's a cool hangout that's commonly found in Downtown Vancouver.

From crispy chicken wings to Moncton cake desert, the food selection is quite superb and tasty. Even the service is quite commendable with attentive staff. The owner is a well known fellow and a veteran restaurateur. Recent renovations has given the place a modern, but mellow feel, with dim lighting along with a nice looking bar. There's flat screen TV everywhere for optimum viewing of sporting events. Even a stage/lounge area give the customer a chance to enjoy live music during the week. Overall, the prices are very fair and well worth the quality food.

Overall, if you're in the Aldergrove/Langley area and looking for a place to eat or hangout, I would definitely reccomend Azul.

Pho Hoa5505 Kingsway, Burnaby
No Service, Horrible Ambience, Dirty Atmopshere & Lackluster Food
Submitted Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - 6:50pm [Dine in]

My review title basically summarizes our experience at Pho Hoa (Kingwasy & Denbigh). I frequented various Pho Hoa franchises in the past (Canada & USA). Overall, their Burnaby location is, by far, BOTTOM of the BARREL when it comes to their quality of food, service, ambience and value.

Our servers were a bunch of imbeciles who cared less about providing a quality service to their customers. They ignored us multiple times and failed to provide us with the proper food in timely manner. My wife was so pissed she gave them pretty loud lashing about the crappy service, along with no tip.

For Vietnamese food, their food was pretty lackluster. My Beef & Tendon soup tasted like mush out of a ghetto. Even the stock failed to invigorate my senses. In addition, our table was very dirty and look unclean.

Even the ambiance looked worn out and very, very old. The entire place needs a serious POWER WASH. I am surprised this place passed Health Inspection.

Stay away from this DUMP! There are better Vietnamese establishments within the vicinity. And they also treat their customers a lot better.

Meat Lovers Rejoice!
Submitted Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - 2:56pm [Dine in]

Meat lovers will love this place. Their meat is cooked overnight with patience. And by the time it gets to your table, it will peel right off the bone.

Like their other locations, service has always been very friendly and consistent. This is not a fine dining eatery but a nice place to hang out with friends. During some evenings, you can enjoy your meal while a band or blues man hits the mic with a catchy tune.

Sure, there are better authentic southern style BBQ places out there. But for a small market like South Western BC, Memphis BBQ is heaven for carnivores!

Waves Coffee House4250 Kingsway, #1, Burnaby
Free Internet and Decent Coffee
Submitted Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - 2:46pm [Dine in]

This place used to be very crowded with camping students and their study groups. Even worse was the fact many of them stayed for hours without ordering any food or coffee. With the new owner and management, customers are now required to purchase a minimum dollar amount in order stay and access the Internet.

At least the place is less crowded but they still need to work on their food because most of the sandwiches and pasta dishes are pretty bland and underwhelming. They taste like microwaved food but served in a ceramic dish.

Las Margaritas1999 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
Watered Down Mexican Food for Western Tastes
Submitted Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - 2:37pm [Dine in]

Las Margaritas is a nice looking restaurant but lacks any real flavor of Authentic Mexican food. It's a western (or White Man's) interpretation of Mexican food.

Our burrito and enchilada meals meal tasted pretty bland and lacked a real zing or texture that's commonly found in many authentic Mexican dishes. At least the place looked pretty decent or tried hard to capture the essence of our southern neighbors.

Our server was decent and performed a competent job to meet our needs. But overall, we walked away pretty disappointed, especially when you can get a better meal at Taco Bell. At a cheaper price too!

Tries to hard to be a Fusion of Taste but FAILS MISERABLY
Submitted Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - 2:17pm [Dine in]

There are some restaurants that can really define their target customer. And there are other restaurants that successfully blends cultural styles into a tasty fusion of delightful food.

On the other hand "Ravi Bar & Grill" fails miserably at defining their identity. Are they strictly an Indian Restaurant? Canadian Restaurant? Indo-Canadian Restaurant? South-Asian Restaurant?

And when western eyes see the words "Bar & Grill" associated with a restaurant, they also think of a sizzled BEEF Steak. An offering that's not readily available at Ravi Bar & Grill.

I've been to plenty of tasty Indian restaurants in the past. Overall, the food at Ravi Bar & Grill is pretty understated and a BIG disappointment. In addition, the Tandoori chicken I ordered was still pretty raw when it arrive to the table. Furthermore, I had to thoroughly convince my server it was really RAW.

Overall, don't believe the hype about authentic Indian flavours crafted by chefs from 5 star Indian hotels. There are way better Indian eateries in Surrey that offer better value and service. You're money is best spent somewhere else.

Ozark's Famous BBQ19696 Fraser Highway, Langley
A Decent But Overpriced BBQ Place
Submitted Tuesday, November 3, 2009 - 4:20am [Dine in]

Don't expect anything outstanding from Ozark's Famous BBQ. The food is pretty much understated and lacks anything outstanding. Sure, you won't walk away disappointed but the high price for their meals and appetizers don't bring justice to your taste buds.

I'd suggest you go somewhere else to find a decent BBQ in Langley. Even Denny's cooks up better meals than this place.

This IHOP location offers consistent service, quality and value. After every visit, I walk away with a very satisfied feeling.

The staff is very friendly and attentive to our needs. Even the food is carefully prepared with consistent quality. Prices are a typical for a home style restaurant. If you good tasting meal at decent prices, this IHOP location is a very safe choice.

Baselines Pub20340 Fraser Hwy, Langley
A Sports Bar with Good Views and decent food. But the service really sucks!!!
Submitted Friday, July 10, 2009 - 6:02am [Dine in]

Baseline's Pub is a good place to watch a sporting event with friends. But the service needs big improvement. I've been to the place numerous times when it was only a 1/3 full. I still ended up getting crappy service and long wait time.

Overall, the place has decent food and price. But remember, the service is so slow it may take a while to get the food and even the bill.

Viva Mexico Restaurant Grill & Cantina20505 Fraser Highway, #103, Langley
Not Worth Your Time. Find Another Mexican Resaurant.
Submitted Friday, July 10, 2009 - 5:51am [Dine in]

Viva Mexico tries hard to capture the spirit of Mexico with it's ambiance. Unfortunately, the food doesn't match up to this colorful looking restaurant.

Service is pretty inconsistent. There were way too many times our server forgot our requests.

Our meal tasted decent but nothing compared to real authentic Mexican establishments I've frequented in the past. We'll, at least in this joint you can pretend to be in Mexico due to the ambiance. Unfortunately, this is a really the only good trait going for this restaurant.

Decent Chinese for White People in the Heart of Langley City
Submitted Friday, July 10, 2009 - 5:42am [Dine in]

This is another watered down Chinese restaurant that caters to western tastes or white people. The food is OK. But overall, the menus and taste is similar to Chinese Take-out in a shopping mall food fair. There is only so much I can take of Sweet-sour-Pork or Honey Garlic Spare ribs.

Even the prices are pretty inflated or too high. Overall, I'll stick to your typical White Man's Chinese food in the shopping mall.

Cosmos Greek Restaurant14871 Marine Drive, White Rock
Reliable Greek Food on the Beach
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 6:03am [Dine in]

A reliable Greek restaurant with pretty good food and fair pricing. Service can be pretty inconsistent at time. During our multiple visits, my Wife and I will get outstanding attention by our server but other times we're less than impressed by their attention to detail.

Food is pretty good overall. You won't get 5 star eating but you get a decent meal. This is a good place to dine during the warmer months, especially when you sit outside to partake the cool breeze from the sea. Even the ambiance is cozy with plenty of plants, decor and reminders of sunny days on the Mediterranean sea.

I do have ONE WARNING. If you're a straight male, like me, beware of the male belly dancers that frequents the premises on specific days. The last thing I want is some guy's ass jiggling in my face, while I eat my Souvlaki.

Despite my minor quibbles, Cosmo's a pretty good place and worth the time on the White Rock Strip.

A Trip Back in Time: Just Don't Get on a Weight Scale after..
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 3:32am [Dine in]

This place never seems to change. Food quality is basically the same as 20+ years ago. Even their Golden Fried chicken even tastes the same. And yes, I still like it!!!

Depending on the dishes being offered, UW still brings out good value for big eaters and buffet enthusiasts. Don't expect anything fancy or service that rivals a high end eatery. Just dig in and don't stop till your stomach (and sanity) explodes!!!

Won Ton Noodles Restaurant1991 East Hastings Street, Vancouver
An Old Favourite: Reliable and Tasty
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 3:19am [Dine in]

My wife and I have been regulars at Won Ton Noodles for over 10 years. The server is excellent and the owners treat us very well. They also cook up my wife's favorite dish right as soon as she steps into the restaurant.

The food selection is good and most of our choices in the past have been quite flavorful and tasty. And best of all, the prices are decent and well worth the value.

It may not be 5 star Chinese food but you'll be happy to know the place offers tasty food, always open late and they treat their customers like good friends.

Morton's of Chicago, The Steakhouse750 W. Cordova Street, Vancouver
Prestige Eating at a Cost
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:49am [Dine in]

The food at Morton's is good. I've been there a couple of times in the past. My business clients seem to enjoy the ambiance and quality of food. Service is a little inconsistent at times. Sometime our waits can get a little too lengthy or a request can easily be forgotten. The ambiance is nice and expected for a high end eatery.

Unfortunately, there's a well know steakhouse franchise, known as the KEG that offers better value. For me, Morton's is a good business expense but if I want great value, I'll stick to the Keg.

A Good Steakhouse with a Solid Reputation
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:41am [Dine in]

I've tried every high-end steakhouse (Mortons, etc) that's crept into the lowermainland. This ironic part is that good old reliable KEG still gives out the best value at half the price! Service has always been solid, and I always walk away satisfied.

The Keg gives you similar tastes, textures and smells that other expensive competitors are currently offering. If you want to pay for dinner but still have enough change to go out for a movie afterwards, the Keg is always a safe choice.

On Yuen Chinese Restaurant9014 152nd St., #304, Surrey
Watered Chinese Food for White People
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:29am [Dine in]

On Yuen Chinese Restaurant is a successful establishment that knows their customers very well. The menu is filled with popular selections that most white people or western tastes have grown to like. Even the service is very good. The owners treat their customer really well.

The food is quite tasty. However, it lacks any true essence of cultural identity because this place reminds me too much of the Chinese food anyone can get at a Shopping Mall Food Fair. A watered down version of the real thing.

If you like the Chinese Food that White people or western tastes like to eat, check this place out. However, I'd rather spend my money on more authentic dishes that can easily be found in Vancouver.

Fresgo Inn Restaurant & Bakery10102 King George Highway, Surrey
A Good Old Fashion Diner with Big Portions.
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:20am [Dine in]

The Fresgo Inn has been a popular Surrey Diner for over 20+ years. A blue collar ambiance equals its surrounding neighborhood. Yes, the furniture is pretty old but retains a certain timeless charm.

One of the most popular meals is the Mushroom burger. A healthy serving of grilled mushrooms that overflows a separated bun with your selection of single, double or triple beef patties. A tasty treat for burger lovers.

Don't even get me started on the Mushroom burger or Schnitzel meal. It's grease heaven for super hungry eaters. And it tastes good too!

As a true diner, there's also a plenty of other selections to eat. Most of the meals I've tried we're never a disappointment. You come away satisfied after visiting this joint.

An Overated Import from California
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:08am [Dine in]

I was looking forward to eating at Fatburger. Unfortunately, I left pretty disappointed.

The food is not bad at all. However, it tastes like a normal burger meal with generic fries and ketchup. Our meal carried nothing special or worthy tastefulness to invigorate my senses.

The cost of our meal was pretty decent and will not leave an empty hole in anyone's wallet. Even an inspired 50's ambiance tried to remind us of good old fashion Americana with rollerskating waitress and gas guzzling automobiles. Thank goodness the rest of the world has moved on because Fatburger is ironically stuck in the past. And it is not a good thing.

Decent Teppanyaki in the heart of Langley
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 1:58am [Dine in]

First timers who've never experience Teppanyaki will probably like this place. For someone who's been to similar places, the Teppanyaki at Katana is OK. But the Fusion-Sushi roll collection is worth a try. You'll probably find something tasty.

Ambiance is pretty nice. A downtown look for suburbanites who refuse to go into Vancouver for something to Eat. However, we felt our bill was pretty pricey, especially when similar food and quality can be found in our area that's tamer on our wallet.
