Fatburger serving Ricky's Famous Breakfast1995 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
Big Breakfast
Submitted Thursday, December 23, 2010 - 5:18pm [Dine in]

We hit Fatburger for breakfast last weekend, ordered the eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast and orange juice for a decent price. Everything was well prepared. Should have asked for the shredded hash browns cooked on the flattop and not the home fries which are deep fried and too greasy. Service was good, food came relatively quickly. We'll come again when we feel the urge for a big breakfast.

Cocoa Lattes Coffee Co.644 Queensbury, North Vancouver
Quirky Local Cafe
Submitted Thursday, December 23, 2010 - 5:02pm [Dine in]

We live in the neighbourhood and have walked by Cocoa Lattes a number of times but we usually weren't seeking coffee or a snack. This morning we decided to stop in for lattes and a muffin. Decor is quite quirky and quaint...the outdoor patio in the back might be nice on a summer morning. Lattes were good and mugs were mouth friendly. Muffins are obviously brought in so nothing outstanding there. But it has a nice local atmosphere, different from the big "Bucks", so we'll likely frequent it from time to time.

Red Chilli Szechuan Cuisine741 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
Very good Szechuan
Submitted Sunday, November 28, 2010 - 9:03am [Dine in]

This was our third visit to the Red Chili over the last year and we popped in for an early 5pm dinner before a movie. We keep coming back because good Szechuan is a little tough to find on the north shore and we have found the food here is excellent. Singapore fried rice noodles, prawns and scallops with chili and garlic, wor wonton soup, diced chicken with peanut and chili, and steamed rice. Lots of dried red chilis that you could pick out if you don't like your dish that hot. Great Szechuan flavours and although the dish portions are on the small size, it was just enough for three. $75 with tip.
There was only one other party in the restaurant and the manager tended to hover over us, watching the table and whipping plates away as soon as you put the fork down, which was a bit disconcerting. He obviously wasn't rushing us but was trying to be attentive. He needs to back off a little so he's not so intrusive, but his heart is in the right place. I think it wouldn't be a problem when the restaurant is more full.

Finding the gems among the cobble
Submitted Saturday, October 9, 2010 - 7:01am [Dine in]

We have eaten at the NNH quite a few times over the years and we've managed to figure out what the menu gems are and to steer away from the bombs. The various noodle bowls are excellent and with a side of vegetable tempura to share, very satisying at a nice price. The sushi is unimpressive and most of the other chinese dishes are too bland for our tastes. But they do seem to do noodles well....

Burgers Etc. BBQ House4091 Hastings St., Burnaby
We'll be back
Submitted Saturday, October 9, 2010 - 6:42am [Dine in]

We've eaten in twice now and their burgers are very nice with a variety of topping options and a fresh handmade grilled taste. Fries have been crispy and very potato-like if you know what I mean. Not cheap eats but very good quality. Restaurant is small and busy and somewhat cosy. We'll probably return every month or so for a burger fix although the BBQ looks good too.

Nando's Chicken1301 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
Skip the chicken sandwich
Submitted Saturday, October 9, 2010 - 6:32am [Dine in]

Three of us had dinner here last Friday. It was early with only a couple of tables occupied so we had our choice. My friends order the chicken breast sandwiches with Piri fries and I had the half chicken with spicy rice and a side salad. Although I ordered hot, my chicken was tasty but could have been spicier for my tastes so I truned to the table sauces to jack it up. Rice and salad were fresh and tasty sides. My friends chicken breast sandwiches were unimpressive and bland. They wished they had ordered my half chicken. Not cheap eats as the whole thing cost us close to $50 for three people with just water. Next time we'll look for coupons/specials and stick to the grilled chicken.

Decent BBQ
Submitted Sunday, August 2, 2009 - 7:45pm [Dine in]

We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, half slab of ribs and a full slab for our teen son. The food was okay, decent BBQ when covered with copious amounts of their vinegary BBQ sauce. Ribs were a bit dry and tough but not inedible by any means. A full slab platter would be enough for two adults to share, our teen couldn't finish it all. The sides are good but small, beans are smoky and tasty, corn bread, cole slaw. Had to serve ourselves water, which was warm so we had to ask the helpful waitress for ice. All in all, I make better BBQ at home in my smoker Q so we likely won't go again, but it's decent BBQ if you're not fussy about it.

Krua Thai Restaurant1445 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver
Authentic Thai
Submitted Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 6:28pm [Dine in]

We;ve sampled many Thai restaurants in Vancouver over the years and the Krua has become our favorite local Thai place. Cozy and authentic dishes, all washed down with Thai ice tea while watching the people pass on Lonsdale. The curries are excellent, and the red curry in a coconut shell is one of our favorites. Highly recommended, as are reservations.

Persian Treats
Submitted Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 6:17pm [Dine in]

My experience with Persian baked goods has been limited at best but we've sampled the wares of this establishment twice in the last couple months. Not knowing any of the pastries and cookies, we ask the woman behind the counter to fill a box with a selection of her favourites (they charge by weight). Both times we've had interesting and varied offerings with the flavours of coconut, almond, apricot, and spices I couldn't clearly identify. Nothing fruity but very tasty.
