This establishment in the Ceter of Maple Ridge has been here for a long time. The atmosphere is very relaxed and personal. I have been here several times for lunch and a couple of times for dinner.
The Paella is great to share with a group and it has a lot of different types of seafood as well as some pork medallions. The pork and clams is another favorite and the pork has a great white wine flavor from a long marinade. Our must have is the quail that comes in a rich spice sauce. The sauce alone is worth a visit.
The secret ingredient for many dishes are light crispy fried potatoes. I can't figure out how the are cooked but they are always cooked perfectly.
The owner and staff are attentive and friendly but without any great sense of urgency. My portuguese friends recommended this place to me and they say it is quite authentic.
I just started working in Maple Ridge so I have been trying a few places. I had a craving for fish and chips so I read a few reviews and decided to go to Sea Shanty.
If I'm going to consume that many calories I want it to be worth it. I oredered the 2 peice Halibit and chips. total with tax $16.63 with no beverage. I can't be sure but it did not seem like the fish that arrived was halibut. It didn't taste bad but it did not have the texture of halibut. It was cooked well. The fries were hand cut but I would say slighty underdone although golden so maybe the oil is too hot.
The tartar sauce was good but the ketchup was not so that is strange as it costs more to make good tartar sauce but you don't save that much on cheap Ketchup.
If I'd paid 12 I probably would have been happy enough but at $17 I was definately dissappointed.
The sole employee was friendly and helpful.
We love dim sum. We will go anywhere to try a place. There are much more expensive places and cheaper places. We like to be down the middle - good ingredients without going broke.
Went yesterday with wife and daughter. Had the ususal,
2 Sui Mai always good
Hah Gow always good
chicken feet lovely
kalamari (bit Greasy but fresh)
Spring roll - regretted it too much skin and not warm
Woo Gok (Tarrot) nice, hot with curry filling which was different
Spareribs (average)
Bean curd with pork
all that for $32 plus tip
How can any say that is expensive. Not quite as good as Kirin but it would have been over $50
If you don't lke noisy and bustling you should no go for dim sum, that is what it is about.
Under $6 for freshly cooked burger, fires and a can of pop - nice and cold.
Home made patty and fresh cut potato's. If you want simple and satisfying with friendly owners you will love this place. Nothing precooked or double battered. The wait was short.
I hate going to Earl's etc and Eating their proven Sysco patties and cold fries and being out $15 to $17 although the crowd will be younger and better looking.
