Meeting with friends for a pre-Christmas dinner on a Friday night in December 2008, I had made a reservation for 8:00 p.m., however when we got there, we had to wait in line with another party ahead of us and all tables taken. So, they need to brush up on their reservation service. Once we were seated though, the ambience was great (for a French bistro in Vancouver!). There was a bit of a problem with getting the drinks we wanted; we had to settle for a lesser gin for our martinis. Still, the waitress was charming and we overcame that setback. The red wine was good. I had ordered onion soup but wasn't too impressed with it. However, my filet mignon was excellent! The others liked their food choices as well. We all loved the chandelier! Summary: We would like to give this eatery another try in the near future.

Because our friends like steak and we had been discouraged taking them to Stonegrill by too many poor reviews, we thought we finally dare Mortons, expecting a fantastic ambience, mouth watering food and outstanding service. Even as we were seated on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., we glanced around and noticed that quite a few tables were still empty. We also noticed that the room was anything but elegant and the pictures on the walls trivial. Next thing, some hidden part of the wooden table kept falling on my wife's lap - a wooden fold that can make a square into a round table. On the third try she could finally fix it in place before calling for help. We ordered drinks - they were wrong and had to be corrected except for my martini. We also found their drink prices outrageously high - see below! Then came the tray with the meat and veggies. The raw steaks were uninviting and the veggies extremely boring (only potatoes and broccoli!). The worst was a suffering live lobster out of water! At this point I was totally 'underwhelmed' and said so to my wife and our friends. While three of our meals were acceptable (not great!), my wife's steak was tough and full of tendons so it couldn't be cut. She complained and another was brought without hesitation, except that it was even worse than the first. She couldn't cut it though she had a serrated steak knife. She just left it. The headwaiter (?) tried to make up for it by offering us free after dinner drinks, which was nice enough, but when the bill came, we were shocked. We've never paid nearly $700.00 for a dinner for four and it surely wasn't worth it. Summary: None of us would ever go back! A disappointing evening all around and that at an outrageous cost!
