Dine in, take out, it's all good
Submitted Friday, March 2, 2007 - 4:10pm [Dine in]

I love eating here. The decor is fantastic, the music is always good, the people are very nice, and the food is GOOD. The pulled pork with salad and cornbread is a personal favourite, as is the Elvis Platter when feeding a crowd.

I've eaten here twice and both visits were unremarkable, with some notable exceptions:

Showed up at about 5pm with a friend for my first visit and asked to get a table for six people. The restaurant was almost empty. We we told by the hostess they had to see if anything was free. Now seldom is an entire restaurant fully reserved, and in an empty restaurant, such a statement is pretty pretentious.

About 10 minutes later we get to a crescent table (so it's not like they spent that 10 minutes putting our tables together) which can comfortably hold six small women. We were a mixed group of men and women, not all of us small, so I had us moved to a booth. No problem. We had a couple of drinks while waiting, met up with our party, had our dinner, all of it decent. A pretty good evening was had by all.

For my second visit we had another large party of 15 people. Now they add a mandatory gratuity at this restaurant, which really pissed me off. I hate that. It wasn't my reservation (I was someone else's guest) so I didn't make a fuss, but it still irritated me.

For a party of 15, I don't expect my server to be working on the other side of the restaurant. I don't know if they have a staffing problem here, but it took a very long time to order, get our food, get our server's attention when we needed anything... you get the idea. After all was said and done, I carried on with the rest of evening, only to have an unpleasant surprise a few hours later: food poisoning. From chicken.

That's right, folks, the chicken wasn't cooked properly or something was cross-contaminated, but there was some definite vomiting going on, and I didn't even drink that night.

That really did it for me--I'm not going back again.

...and I still love this place. Great service, warm relaxed atmosphere, and delicious food for a very reasonable price. 3-course dinners for under $20, and by the end you're rolling out of the restaurant.

In the 16 years I have eaten here, I have never had poor service at this restaurant. Here's an example of the graciousness of our server, Wiam: my mother lives for their tiramisu cake. She goes on and on about how good it is (and yes, it really is good). So one evening we were eating and she mentioned how much she loved this cake to our server. When we finished eating and had our leftovers packed up (portions are generous--good for lunch the next day), Wiam brought her an extra little baggie with a nice piece of tiramisu in it, on the house. Now that's gracious!

Good dishes to try: nuts about chicken, lasagne, Saigon stirfry.

Best brunch!

My friends introduced me to this restaurant a few months ago and I have been a loyal patron ever since. I love eating here for Sunday brunch. The food is very good, with a varied menu, served quickly, and the service is always attentive and efficient.

Enigma offers nice little touches like chocolate banana bread instead of a bread basket, and extra salad and fruit with the eggs benedict. Coffee and water are always topped up.

The atmosphere is very relaxed; I've never felt rushed eating here. Diners are invited to linger, relax, and enjoy the food, the art on the walls, and the good music playing in the background.

Always a great choice for yummy Greek!

I eat here on a regular basis. This restaurant has the best manager/host EVER. When dining here, you must say hello to Kostas--he's the gentleman at the front greeting you and making sure you're having a great time. He really is the heart of this restaurant and keeps the atmosphere warm, fun, welcoming, and pretense-free.

The servers are always very kind and attentive, the decor is lovely, and the food is contsistently fantastic.

Because the restaurant is divided into various sections, you can enjoy intimate dining or large parties. I've been here with a party of 12 and with my partner and the experience has been consistently great. For a crowd, order the appy platters; even when they say "feeds 4", they really mean "feeds 8". In true Greek fashion, the portions are oversized and the food is yummy.

Overpriced and overhyped
Submitted Friday, February 16, 2007 - 1:17pm [Dine in]

I have eaten here several times for lunch and the experience has always been terrific. That clubhouse sandwich is a solid meal.

So I decided to try Feenie's for for dinner on my birthday. What a disappointing evening.

The restaurant was way too loud and crowded. Service staff kept hitting the backs of our chairs all evening. When I pointed out this annoyance to the maitre'd, he snubbed his nose at me, shurgged his shoulders and walked away. Well la de da.

Out server didn't have the slightest hint of a clue about the wine menu or the food. Now the menu here is not extensive and it can't be that difficult to tell me what kind of fish is in the fish and chips, especially when they're on special.

Anyway, 5/6 of us ordered the fish and chips, and the other individual ordered the burger. The burger arrived, and the rest of us waited, and waited, and waited. Then waited some more.

When our food came and we dove in, we all found the fish and chips rubbery and undercooked. Gross. Fries were limp and dry. My friend's burger was "just okay"; he's had better at White Spot. Not worth the $16 price tag. We called our waitress over to tell her about the fries and her response was "Oh." We probably should have insisted they go back for re-frying, but didn't bother.

On our way out, we spoke with the maitre'd about the quality of the food and his response was to giggle. Yes, giggle.

So with the memory of chair-hitting, bad service, badly prepared food, and a bad atmosphere ripe in my mind, I will definitely not be going back here.
