We were warned off the Empress as being ridiculously overpriced, and unfortunately the Blethering House closed last December, so we tried this place, based on the reviews on this site. The scones were awesome. Warm, and crusty with glazed butter on the outside.. SO good!!!! Best I've had so far. The place settings and ambiance are nice (linen, napkins, etc). And the tea was ok, but the real treats were what you get with your 'high tea' package. Excellent sandwiches, tarts, shortbread. Delicious! Make sure you come with an empty stomach! We had to get some food wrapped up!
I've never had a bad meal here. The chicken, steak, shrimp, all of it is cooked to perfection. Some of the chefs are better showman than others (luck of the draw who you get), and the food isn't cheap, but it's a solid night out. The service is generally good, though the waitresses and hostess can be a bit pert sometimes.
It's worth the wait, and the hassle getting a spot to sit in the crowded eating area. The pies are great (get the lemon buttermilk), you WILL slap your mother for the soda bread and scones, and the chai lattes are just right. Just make sure to bring someone along to snag some seating while you wait in line!
