Noodley goodness
Submitted Friday, February 10, 2012 - 4:34pm [Dine in]

We visited this place for my very first ramen experience. Can't believe I've never enjoyed ramen before. He bowls are HUGE, the noodles have great texture and the broth has this creaminess to it. Deeeelicious! The noodles are served super hot with these yummy, thin slices of pork and thinly sliced onions. Perfect for a cold, rainy night.
We also ordered some seaweed salad (too salty), takoyaki (I've had better), and boneless chicken karage (really good with a cold beer!).
The service is good. Looks like there was only one server on so it was a little slow. She was sweet though.

Sooooo good!

I agree with the previous reviewer. This place is great! The service was quick and friendly, tea was hot, room was cozy and comfy and the food was yummy! We ordered the dream salad. So many goodies in there! Fresh crab, creamy avocado, shiitake mushrooms, shrimp, edamame, tuna tataki and greens dressed with ponzu! The crunchy go-go roll was also great. Two large tempura prawns and crisp cucumber served with crunchy bits and spicy mayo. The pork belly with kimchi and tofu was tasty but we will likely not order it again. The fresh clams were a miss.
I'm really looking forward to going back! They have lots of unique rolls I'd love to try.

Rude!
Submitted Monday, October 3, 2011 - 4:34am [Dine in]

The four of us went in for an evening treat. The new girl was very nice but the manager lady was just plain rude. Ice cream shops are supposed to be happy places. Not sure if they're affiliated with mario's but who the heck limits a group of four to two samples? Not two samples each, two samples as a group. The children wanted to taste a few before making a decision but she said we have had too many. We had two! She rolled her eyes and was annoyed with us. I got so irritated I said I'd pay for another sample. We spent $25 between the four of us. Ice cream was good but we'll never return.

Meeeeaty Goodness
Submitted Wednesday, July 6, 2011 - 6:19pm [Dine in]

We had a full order of the short ribs. YUM! So tender and flavourful. Two GIANT ribs filled our bellies. The sides (baked beans and coleslaw) were good but small.
We really liked the ambiance. This restaurant is located right on a busy corner of Gastown and had large windows that opened up. We had a good time people watching while we enjoyed our meal. There's also a cute little patio that filled up shortly after we arrived.
Service was good. The place was staffed appropriately, our server was friendly and kept our glasses full. Looking forward to returning.

How did they screw up chicken strips?
Submitted Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 10:24pm [Dine in]

We were really hungry. Didn't want to dine in the food court. We ordered a bacon cheese burger and chicken strips. Thought we were playing it safe. The burger was bland, dry, had processed cheese on it and the fries were undercooked. The chicken strips were hard (probably re-fried) and the fries were, again, gross. There was only one server there so service was slow, not her fault. For what we paid, we at least expected real cheese. The food court would have been a better option.

Great Breakfast Spot
Submitted Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 10:16pm [Dine in]

We were going to go to White Spot but stumbled upon this great breakfast place. This must be where all the locals dine. Pretty busy place with amazing omelets. He had the Big D's omelet. It was jam packed with sausage, cheese, veggies and all sorts of other good stuff. Served with cranberry sourdough...yum! I had the veggie breakfast. Two eggs, whole grain toast, half an avocado, fresh tomato slices and yummy melon. The potatos! They were not good. Sliced and fried. They were hard, zero flavour and just plain boring. Next time, we'll substitute the potatos for a fruit cup. Coffee is good. Service is lacking.

An Almost Perfect Evening
Submitted Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 10:09pm [Dine in]

After a long day exploring Whistler, we ended up here for a birthday dinner. Martini's and beers were good and priced well, appies of crab fritters and carpaccio were nice, 12oz rib eye was cooked well, served with yummy veggies and a burnt to heck yorkshire pudding. Our waiter didn't come around for a quality check so we had to flag him down to ask for an unburnt pudding. A lady returned 10 minutes later with a pudding that was still burnt, but parts of it were edible. We also had to flag him down for another round of drinks. The pesto tagliatelle was good and the scallops were deeelicious! Dessert of creme brule was mediocre and we enjoyed our specialty coffees. The room was lovely and had a nice view of the mountains. This is probably the nicest restaurant in Creekside.

Boring food
Submitted Friday, November 12, 2010 - 10:47pm [Dine in]

The curry chicken here is not good. The chicken's not fresh (tastes and looks like those seasoned, frozen chicken breasts from costco). The curry is very bland and rich. Kinda tasted like I was eating rice with spicy coconut milk - yuk! The filet was quite good though. We also ordered their chorizo "sliders". I wish they'd called it chorizo on a crostini with goat cheese because that's what it was - yawn! It was not a slider! Service was good, the restaurant was clean and comfy.

My go-to place for soupy noodles
Submitted Friday, November 12, 2010 - 10:41pm [Dine in]

We usually eat-in but I've also done take-out. The servings are large, fresh and deeeelish! The servers are friendly and orders arrive fast! The soupy noodles (pho) are great! Lots of meat and noodles served piping hot with sprouts, basil and lime - yum! Their spring/salad rolls, grilled chicken and fish sauce are great! The place is clean and up-to-date. I'd pass on the sandwiches there. Although fresh, they skimp on sandwich fillings (especially the meat ball). I think the prices here are higher than some of the other vietnamese restaurants in the area but I'm just so comfortable there. I'm a regular and will continue to be for a long time!

We were here for brunch. The place was practically empty, service was slow. We had the seafood hash and mimosas. Food was okay. The seafood was a little overdone but I liked the fresh veggies and the eggs were poached well. The mimosas were yummy. No quality check. Server had zero personality.

VERY good brunch!

Mmmm...you can have brunch here every day! The buckwheat pancakes are fluffy and yummy! They have about 15 different bennies to choose from and you may mix and match them as well. The potatos are a miss but the fruit cups are fabulous! Service can be sloppy during peak hours, coffee is good, seating is cramped. Under $10 for a huge, delicious benny! I'll definitely be back!

Be picky as to what you order
Submitted Wednesday, August 4, 2010 - 12:04am [Dine in]

I'm pretty sure they load their food up with msg cause we were thirsty all night long. We ordered their scrambled egg with shrimp on rice - not too bad. Their fried rice noodles were quite good as were their pea shoots in garlic. The fish maw and crab soup was quite yummy...but then, something horrible happened. Of the four of us, three of us got belly aches. We think it was the soup because I was the only one who didn't have soup; therefore, no belly ache. The cleanliness of this place is questionable. We will not be returning.

They have good stuff!
Submitted Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - 11:55pm [Dine in]

I really enjoyed my experience at Manzo. We arrived on an early Friday evening and were seated immediately. Their daily menu was a little adventurous for us so we stuck to what we knew. The gomae was not bad. We ordered two rolls: rainbow and real crab california. The rainbow was almost worth the $12 but the california was a little small for what we paid. The ebi gyoza was a little sad. My favourite was the ebi mayo! The service was friendly and quick.

Awesome Patio! Service and food, not so much
Submitted Wednesday, July 7, 2010 - 4:50pm [Dine in]

So, our server was nice and all but kinda not all there. We asked for lemons three times and waited 10 minutes for her to process our bill (credit card). We asked this person not to put mushrooms on our meal, the meal had mushrooms on it. She offered to re-do the meal but after waiting a half an hour for it, we didn't want to wait any longer. The calamari is bland, bland bland! and the "world famous chower" is crap. The drinks were good though. Nothing beats slushy drinks on a fabulous patio on a super warm evening. We'll return for drinks for sure.

SO good!
Submitted Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - 2:22pm [Dine in]

We were here for dim sum on Sunday. It was all very good! We arrived at 10am and the place was already super busy! We enjoyed shrimp dumplings, calamari, spareribs, taro root pastry things...but I think the highlight of our experience was the durian pastry. I don't normally enjoy durian but this pastry was awesome! Subtle in flavour, flaky and just plain yummy! They don't always have it, I guess you just have to come on the right day. The service was great! The servers were smiley, friendly and non-pushy! We had plenty of hot tea and we left with super full bellies! Looking forward to returning soon!

May return for $7 appies
Submitted Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - 2:16pm [Dine in]

We had dinner in the bar here one night. The room was comfortable and clean. It took a while for our server to get to us (wasn't busy) but when she did, she was not bad. I ordered a caesar and the bf had a LARGE Guinness. The caesar itself wasn't bad but I was surprised to find a pepperoni stick in it. We had the calamari appetizer to start. Don't have the calamari! It was soooo greasy, bland and was cut into long, limp strips making it difficult to eat. My tenderloin was good but overdone. The asparagus that was served with it was good but the potatos lacked seasoning and there was no salt and pepper on the table. My bf had the butter chicken. He says it was good but needed more sauce. By the time the server came by to check on us, we were nearly finished with our plates. The table behind us feasted on $7 appies! The wings looked REALLY good as did a few others that they enjoyed. Will probably return for some appies once we find out when their $7 specials are.

Yuck!
Submitted Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 9:07pm [Dine in]

Can't believe this place! They managed to screw up a stir-fry!

POOR value! $11.00 a pound. I got a bowl of veggies with a couple pieced of chicken and 4 shrimp. I added garlic, ginger and teriyaki sauce - $17! That metal bowl itself weighs half a pound. Then there's the "chef" She was a messy looking woman who had zero personality and moves slow as molasses. She needs to wear a hat because she had hair everywhere. She grill itself wasn't hot enough when she put our food onto the grill so there was no sizzle. The food had no flavour. I was expecting something like UGrill. You know, chefs that cook food you pick out over high-heat, smother it in sauce and serve it with rice. mmmmm...Ya, you won't get that here.

We expected more. More meat in our wrap, more veggies, more sauce...just more. We definitely felt a little bit ripped off. There were about 5 thin shaving of beef in our wraps :( The fries were underdone.
Service was good. The lady behind the counter was friendly and smiley. The place could have been cleaner. The table we ate at was sticky (we were the only people in there).

Drinks are GOOD
Submitted Saturday, October 24, 2009 - 12:04am [Dine in]

Very creative cocktail list. The "perfect pear" is YUM! They use a lot of fresh fruit (cut to order). The bartender is fantastic! He's knowledgeable, funny and patient! He was also quite tipsy by the end of the night. I'd be too if I tasted each creation before serving it! haha!
Appies are good. We really enjoyed the springrolls and the tempura shrimp. The satays were a little salty, the mushroom caps are good and the sablefish thingies were very good.
Will definitely return for martinis.

Submitted Friday, October 16, 2009 - 9:25am [Dine in]

We were too lazy to cook so we decided to try this place a few nights ago. We immediately got a table right by a window. Our server came by five minutes later to take drink orders; we were also ready to order dinner. He had the tenderloin and I had the halibut. The tenderloin was over-cooked. It was more of a medium - almost a medium well as opposed to medium rare. Still good though. Sides were lacking. The halibut looked very nice. But, it was dry, dry dry. The veggies were good and the risotto needed to be cooked a little more. By the time our server did her quality check, we were working on our last couple of bites. Don't think we'll return.
