Yuck!

Can't believe this place! They managed to screw up a stir-fry!

POOR value! $11.00 a pound. I got a bowl of veggies with a couple pieced of chicken and 4 shrimp. I added garlic, ginger and teriyaki sauce - $17! That metal bowl itself weighs half a pound. Then there's the "chef" She was a messy looking woman who had zero personality and moves slow as molasses. She needs to wear a hat because she had hair everywhere. She grill itself wasn't hot enough when she put our food onto the grill so there was no sizzle. The food had no flavour. I was expecting something like UGrill. You know, chefs that cook food you pick out over high-heat, smother it in sauce and serve it with rice. mmmmm...Ya, you won't get that here.

We expected more. More meat in our wrap, more veggies, more sauce...just more. We definitely felt a little bit ripped off. There were about 5 thin shaving of beef in our wraps :( The fries were underdone.
Service was good. The lady behind the counter was friendly and smiley. The place could have been cleaner. The table we ate at was sticky (we were the only people in there).

Drinks are GOOD
Submitted Friday, October 23, 2009 - 11:04pm

Very creative cocktail list. The "perfect pear" is YUM! They use a lot of fresh fruit (cut to order). The bartender is fantastic! He's knowledgeable, funny and patient! He was also quite tipsy by the end of the night. I'd be too if I tasted each creation before serving it! haha!
Appies are good. We really enjoyed the springrolls and the tempura shrimp. The satays were a little salty, the mushroom caps are good and the sablefish thingies were very good.
Will definitely return for martinis.

Service was good, food overdone
Submitted Friday, October 16, 2009 - 8:25am

We were too lazy to cook so we decided to try this place a few nights ago. We immediately got a table right by a window. Our server came by five minutes later to take drink orders; we were also ready to order dinner. He had the tenderloin and I had the halibut. The tenderloin was over-cooked. It was more of a medium - almost a medium well as opposed to medium rare. Still good though. Sides were lacking. The halibut looked very nice. But, it was dry, dry dry. The veggies were good and the risotto needed to be cooked a little more. By the time our server did her quality check, we were working on our last couple of bites. Don't think we'll return.

GOOD seafood and veggies
Submitted Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 9:29am

This is the only hot pot place I've ever eaten at but I thought it was good. The seafood is fresh (large fresh prawns, HUGE oysters), great selection of meats and lots of fresh veggies. The last time I was there, we chose the hot & spicy soup base. You know it's spicy when your VERY Korean friend was teary eyed after the first couple of bites. We fished out the peppers and asked them to dilute it a little and it was good. The cooked food is good too (chicken wings!!).

Fish was good
Submitted Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 9:21am

We had two pieces of halibut and chips. The batter on the halibut was light and crisp. The fries weren't very good though. They were kinda hard (under cooked?) and soggy. The popcorn shimp were good though. Service was attentive and I really liked the ambiance and feel of the place. We were there on a lovely Sunday afternoon and barely had to wait at all for a table. Diners who showed up 5 minutes after we did had to wait though.

Great curry
Submitted Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 9:15am

This place was recommended by a co-worker. Yes, their curries are VERY good! We had the beef brisket. We also had the poached chicken - what they're famous for. I've had better. Value wise, we thought it was kinda pricey for what we got. The portions were on the smaller side. The lady behind the counter was a little rude. We will return for the curries.

POOR value and just plain awful!
Submitted Sunday, July 12, 2009 - 10:41pm

We had an entertainment book coupon but decided to go with the buffet instead. Rice was cold, butter chicken was runny and there was barely any chicken, chickpeas were all right, lamb was gross and cold! Tandoori chicken was all right as well. Service! Oh my! we were one of three other occupied tables. Server (owner) was rude and didn't even say hello. He came up to the table and said "yes?" No smile, no how are you...geeze! Served us our beers and didn't get naan until after our first plates were done. The naan was hard and bland. There were six hot items on the buffet, one soup, a buch of sauces and some rice pudding that looked and tasted more like coconuty, sweet rice soup! yuck! We feel super ripped off! $18 per person for a disgusting indian buffet!

Good pizza
Submitted Friday, June 26, 2009 - 1:13pm

We just moved into the area and wanted pizza for dinner. We try to avoid the big chains so we settled on Bella. We were a little disappointed with the skimpy toppings but they were fresh. The crust was nice and thin .
The guy on the phone sounded nice enough but when we showed up to pick the pizza up, he barely cracked a smile.
Prices on their website is different from their take-out menu (about $2 higher).

Great prime rib and drinks!
Submitted Friday, June 26, 2009 - 1:09pm

We were so hungry. There was a group of about 9 of us. We all had appies and they were great! The Caesars were good too! The sourdough they served us was warm and yummy. I had the keg size prime rib. It was HUGE! Didn't think I'd have a problem finishing it but I barely made a dent (mostly because I stuffed my face with bread). The bf had a NY and he said it was really good.
The service was nice. Our server was funny, energetic and seemed to love his job.

Great $7.95 lunch buffet
Submitted Wednesday, May 13, 2009 - 6:09pm

We were strolling along the West End looking for a place to dine. Saw Swagat's yummy buffet from the window and I'm glad we went inside. The friendly lady brought us our drinks and some fantastic naan bread that was included in our buffet. The curries were yummy with basmati rice as were the pakoras and chutney. The chai tea was also good. We didn't have any of the meat items . Will definitely return!

Nice patio - that's about it
Submitted Tuesday, May 12, 2009 - 11:12pm

They have a nice patio over-looking the water.
Was there during their "appy hour" and was looking forward to some good pub food. DO NOT order the calamari. It was soggy and greasy - yuk! The crab dip was okay but it was served with a bunch of broken chips. The chicken fingers tasted like they were re-fried a few times and the fries were sad. The chicken wings were acceptable. The server did her job but it was obvious she didn't want to be there. Will not return.

Yummy curry. Good clams
Submitted Sunday, May 10, 2009 - 10:55pm

Dined here mid-week and it was a good experience. The clams were fresh and tasty and the beef curry was very good with coconut rice. We also ordered this "tong choi" dish that was okay. I think it was the actual vegetable, not the preparation of it, I don't like.
Staff was efficient and friendly. Our entertainment coupon was honoured with a smile. Food arrived ridiculouslyfast.

Some of the best fries I've ever had
Submitted Thursday, March 19, 2009 - 7:31am

We showed up for an early dinner one night. I had the mushroom/chicken burger w/ fries and he had the quesadillas and a shake. The food arrived within an acceptable amount of time - it was hot and fresh. The fries were so good! I dipped them in some red pepper mayo. The burger itself was good. They serve them on focaccia - the chicken breast was cooked well and it was juicy. The quesadilla was huge! He could barely finish it.
Our server was good, very happy.

Disappointed first time visit
Submitted Tuesday, January 20, 2009 - 8:19am

We wanted a quiet, casual place to dine this past weekend and settled on The Hurricane Grill. We were two of about 12 people in the dining area and the service was just not acceptable. I arrived about five minutes after my dining companion did. The server didn't come by for drink orders until 10 minutes after I showed up. Another couple walked through the door half an hour later and had to seat themselves. They also had to hunt down their own menus.
We ordered the mussels to start. Although they were not bad, I was not expecting previously frozen mussels. For our mains, we had the steak salad. The steak was tough and under seasoned, and the grilled/roasted peppers were burt. The Asparagus was good though. They should seriously consider re-training their service/kitchen staff. With all the fantastic restaurants in the area, they can not afford to screw up like this. Oh and the sign outside...ugly!

Lovely room
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 8:09am

This was our first time there. The room is amazing! Unfortunately, the food is just...yuck! two of us had sandwiches which were bland and dry. The burger was also dry and was served with the tiniest patty we've ever seen! Also, have the regular fries instead of the yam fries. The yam fries were kinda soggy. The bass and meat pie was said to be good but only about a third of it was consumed by our "starving" dining companion. Service was good to begin with but as her shift came to an end, we began to feel a little rushed and her friendly attitude became a "get the heck outta here" kinda attitude.

Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 8:01am

We were there on a busy UFC night. After paying a $10 cover charge, we were seated at a nice booth. We ordered some yummy pizzas and not-so-good nachos. I recommend staying away from the cocktails; they're very watered down. The server was mostly pleasent but was around way too much and wiped our table down with some sort of stinky cleaner mid-meal.

really good breakfast!
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 7:54am

This place was recommended by a local so we thought we'd walk down from our hotel. After a short wait, we were seated at a table right by the kitchen where I was bumped around by staff members hustling about. When our server finally made it our way, she was great. My boyfriend had the fully loaded breakfast and I had the huevos ranchos. His breakfast was a standard bacon/ham/sausage, eggs & potatos kinda breakfast but mine was fabulous and huge! It was loaded with guacamole, salsa, sour cream, beans, eggs! It really was good. They also have great orange juice!

very good grilled chicken and vermicelli
Submitted Friday, October 3, 2008 - 7:24am

We're regulars here. I used to have pho but I've discovered this grilled chicken, spring roll, vermicelli noodle bowl thing with that fish saucy stuff. Love it! The chicken is so flavourful, the spring roll is crisp, there are lots of veggies in it and the fish sauce gives it a nice kick. My dinner date had a large bowl of pho. The bowl was rediculously large! It was also hot and tasty! Service was surprising good and food arrived fast.

really good!
Submitted Monday, September 15, 2008 - 10:44pm

We ordered a dynamite roll, alaska roll, unagi sushi, gomae, chicken kaarage and the sushi/sashimi combo. Fish was fresh and the pieces were large! We were there early (about 5) and were seated immediately. Waited about 5 minutes for food to arrive. Will probably skip the appies next time (gomae was bland and the kaarage was greasy) but everything else was great! We'll be back.
