I think this place is excellent

I have to disagree with the negative reviews, I believe that the food and service at the Thai House at 7th and Burrard are fantastic.

The best peanut sauce I have ever tasted. Excellent Satay, and all the curry dishes are very flavourful, in particular the green (#23) and yellow with bamboo shoots. Also try the spicy szechuan green beans with chicken. And the sweet and sour vegetables. I think their weekend all-you-can-eat is one of the best dining deals in Vancouver. I don't care for the Pad Thai, but it is one of very few dishes that I wouldn't order happily.

Service: It's never been bad for me. I find the servers to be very attentive, you can't get halfway through a glass of water before they've filled it again, and the food comes at a good pace. On occasion a dish has seemed a bit slow but I am there at peak times and have never been seriously inconvenienced. I find the servers quiet and respectful but I always chalked that up to culture, not draconian management.

Ambience: It's alright, nothing overly brilliant but nothing bad. I have often wondered about the karaoke equipment myself, but it's always been dormant when I've been there so we manage to co-exist. The interior is pleasant and clean, and doesn't detract from the eating experience.

Maybe it's not the most authentic, I don't know. But if you like spicy and flavourful food at a good price, I would check it out and decide for yourself if it's worth a return visit.

Decent but not great, and service is bad
Submitted Friday, December 9, 2005 - 3:22pm [Dine in]

I have eaten at Norman's both on the Drive and at the beach, and while I have nothing against the man I have to take issue with his rather generous appraisal of his own wares.

The burgers are ok, but they're over-priced. The veggie patties are silimar to what you would buy at CostCo. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where they actually come from. Which makes the price far too steep.

I have never enjoyed good service, in particular the female server who also works down at the beach is very rude. They seem quite content to take your money but feel no obligation to provide quality service. Sometimes they take your money and then tell you they're out of the burger you ordered, and they won't refund your money. They just give you something else and expect you to like it. Rather than being service oriented, they seem to have a sense of entitlement to your money.

I realise this is not a positive review but it accurately reflects my experiences at Norman's and it therefore deserves to be included.

Thank you.
