Cats Socialhouse1540 Old Bridge Street, Vancouver
Large Birthday Party
Submitted Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 1:34pm [Dine in]

Planned for a 30 person birthday party at Cats Socialhouse. I had a great contact in the general manager, who was incredibly available and willing to answer my questions. They set up the upstairs loungey area for us, away from most of the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and main dining area, which was incredible.

We had two or three servers to ourselves, who were very nice. We weren't really there to eat food, but to drink and socialize, but I was not incredibly impressed with the food (which was also quite expensive, for what it was).

The drink special was pretty good. Would head there again, but for a drinks/socialize party, probably not for the food.

Nevermind3293 West Fourth Ave, Vancouver
Terrible Service!
Submitted Wednesday, September 3, 2008 - 3:58pm [Dine in]

I went to Nevermind for a friend's birthday celebration (about 25 people) and showed up a few hours after most people did. The bar had highballs and Stella on special.
They ran out of Amaretto and Stella on a FRIDAY NIGHT, which I couldn't believe at all.
Most of my friends drank their fair share, so by the time I arrived, I noticed the dirty looks our server was giving them. Now my friends may have imbibed a bit, but they were all sitting nicely and behaving our mature age.
It took forever to flag our server down, which was strange as we were the only section she had, and we took up the entire section. She got drinks wrong, forgot to bring drinks and still charged us for them.
The real kicker came when the bill arrived. She didn't number anyone (which would have been the smart thing for her, and don't let size fool you; I've seen it done at the Rugby Club and Joey's with far bigger groups who were eating full meals AND walking around), so we ended up with one big bill for 25 people. As in 40 rum highballs, 40 vodka highballs, etc etc.
A friend wanted to run his Visa for $30, to which the server responded "No, you drank more than $30 worth." What she didn't know is that he had already put some cash in the pot, and it was none of her business how much he needed to put in. She called him an asshole and threatened to have him kicked out. At this point, I stepped in, let her know the situation and she huffed off.
All in all, don't have a party there. You'll get the worst service and they’ll run out of alcohol.
