You've got a fan!
Submitted Wednesday, May 11, 2016 - 4:35pm [Dine in]

360 spin! I used to not be a fan of this place, to be fair, a gave it a couple of chances before I decided to not go there entirely. I found the food to be rather bland and sub-par to other Chinese and asian place in town, not to mention the portion sizes served here are quite small. That is the impression I had up until now, or so I thought.

We were looking for a place to eat and this one seemed to be the only one that would not take forever to serve us. We went in and the food was not bad. I don't know if there has been a change in management since i last came or what but the fake meat was delicious. Also, don't miss the drumsticks! Delicious.

Chilly, yet still amazing
Submitted Monday, December 28, 2015 - 12:55pm [Dine in]

We were a group of 7 celebrating my sister's graduation (medical school, no biggie) and decided to come here to eat and enjoy the view. I had been here once and loved it but this time around it was a little chilly. Should have paid another visit during the summer.

The waiter was amicable from the get go, and got us started with some crab and shrimp cakes. Amaziiiiing! Came with a great sauce made out of mango(?) I believe. The beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection, and I took a little bit of my mom's halibut to try and it was excellent. The prices are normally what I wouldn't pay for on an average meal, but since we were celebrating it was a good excuse to splurge.

Excellent Italian Dinner
Submitted Tuesday, October 20, 2015 - 10:03am [Dine in]

We came in for a birthday celebration on Thursday and the place was packed. Our reservation was for 7 pm but when we arrived at around ~6.30ish there was hardly any room to move around. Once we got to our seats, everything went by smoothly. The atmosphere is very warm, calm and welcoming, and the staff is precise and attentive. Our tortellini gorgonzola was delicious, as were the rest of the dishes. Coming here at first might not be very appetizing, small stairs going up to the second floor but once you get inside and try the food is it definitely worth it. Plus, the view you get from Robson is unparalleled.

Mistaken order... gone right?
Submitted Monday, October 19, 2015 - 10:57pm [Delivery]

I had never heard of this place until recently when I saw an ad of them online. Called them up to double check, a standard practice I do with every new place I am going to eat. Call me paranoid but after inquiring them and checking up their website, I was convinced.

The pizza took a little longer than expected to arrive. I mistakenly ordered the special preparation of my pizza, deep dish style and apparently it needs to be heater for longer because of its shape and the amount of sauce and cheese that go into it.

We had the house special with LOTS of toppings - pepperoni, mushrooms, ham, green peppers...and on and on. You name it. The taste was delicious, but a little too much for me. I prefer their normal style pizza, but my roomie really liked the leftovers.

I ordered too spicy
Submitted Tuesday, September 2, 2014 - 2:13pm [Dine in]

I have ordered take-out from Akbar's a couple of times in the past and liked their food but never really had the opportunity to eat in. Vancouver has so many places to eat that it's hard to try them all at out.

So this time around, I ate at Akbars. To be honest, the restaurant didn't look anything special from the outside. JUST OKAY. Once inside it was better, not to mention the fact that i like spicy food. We arrived at around 7 pm and the place was kind of full but thankfully we had a reservation. Thinking i was a champ, i ordered butter chicken with palak panner at the most spicy level and suffered. I should've known! Grasping for water, I asked the waiter if i could be changed to something less spicy. Thankfully they did. Once my plate was changed, I was able to enjoy my meal :)

Five Guys Burgers & Fries728 Main Street, #510, West Vancouver
Large burgers and fries
Submitted Friday, August 22, 2014 - 11:16am [Dine in]

It is hard not to get dirty when you eat at Five Guys. The burger is not only kind of greasy but the stuff tends to fall everywhere. The service is kind of slow but the good thing is that you get to have free peanuts while you wait for your burger. I know it sounds like not much, but what do you expect? It is a fast food place after all...

The few times i've been to Five Guys, ive noticed that the portions in Five Guys are LARGE. Larger than Canadian standards. If you like to eat, come here. Otherwise, plan to under-order. We were two and had to take the fries as leftovers because we couldn’t finish them!

Troll's at Horseshoe Bay6408 Bay Street, West Vancouver
Should have read the reviews before going
Submitted Friday, August 22, 2014 - 10:57am [Dine in]

I considered Trolls a convenient place to eat if you are in a hurry or waiting for the ferry to arrive with a beautiful view of the water. The view is INCREDIBLE from here, a real privilege that this places takes for granted. I had been here twice before but didn’t remember having had a bad experience. This time around, I suggested to my boyfriend to make a stop at Trolls. Whyyyy?? We were practically ignored when we arrived and once we managed to get seated, it look our waiter nearly 15 minutes to bring us our menu. He didn’t even apologize! The food was not even good to my disappointment. My fish looked old and the chips tasted bland. The fact that the place smelled funky didnt help either. Bad bad experience.

Bad even for AYCE standards
Submitted Tuesday, August 19, 2014 - 1:19pm [Dine in]

You know not to expect top quality when you are going to an AYCE, but you expect SOME quality! I'd rather go spend my money on some other place where the food is half-decent and the service is a less rude. Usually, there are one of two things I like from the food in AYCE places, but seriously, the food was sub-part. Nothing really worth rescuing. We had the rolls, sashimi, gyoza and beef teriyaki. The food was sloppily put together and lacked taste, to say the least. The salmon sashimi was warm and kind of mushy, which isn't a good sign at all. When I asked the waitress if she could clean out table, she didn't even stare at me and simply told me that it was clean. Hooow could she know without even looking?

Go for the tea
Submitted Friday, August 8, 2014 - 9:09am [Dine in]

Good place for bubble tea, although it gets crazy packed sometimes! Especially during lunch time...I usually just go to BBT for a quick snack (I’m crazy about their spicy dumplings), but the service is always a disappointment. It is usually a struggle to get the staff to acknowledge you, and then, once they do, to get your order placed. As for the way they treat you, geez, its usually borderline rude. I keep going back though for their bubble tea. The passion fruit is delicious (and strong!), and the Taro is a classic. The teas are pretty sweet, especially the passion fruit, but one of the best in Vancouver.

Too spicy
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2014 - 3:06pm [Dine in]

This place is not your typical fast food Asian restaurant. All the food is made right there, which is a healthy sign. I usually am a sucker for spicy food, but the food here is waaaaay too spicy! I ordered a pad thai and red curry at 'medium' thinking it was going to be spicy enough for me, but not too spicy. Boy was I wrong! It was waaay too hot! I was sweating and reaching for some water in no time, which was a little strange for me. I even asked the waiter whether my order had been mistaken or something and he said no.
