New management
Tempest Steakhouse & Lounge2470 Main, Vancouver
A work in progress
Submitted Wednesday, December 1, 2010 - 2:04pm [Dine in]

We went for dinner to Tempest:
1. Location/parking not so great. Street parking but in a rather dismal part of town.
2. Ambiance. Seems more like a bar/watering hole than a steakhouse.
3. Food. Steaks were good but the supporting cast were average at best. My vegies were cool and potato dry.
4. Service. This is where they need to pick it up. Food took an awful long time to come
and the waiter was less than cordial, ok, he was a complete jerk. Perhaps it was PMS. Don't care.
Won't go back. There are just too many establishments that are hungary for my dinner dollar and if the server is poor then why would anybody return? All I can say is good luck on that.

Got a takeout and never to return
Submitted Saturday, March 6, 2010 - 9:58pm [Take-out]

This place sucks. You would never know the owners are Japanese with the waitress barking around in Cantonese. Food was awful and I had to wait 1 hour for my takeout order. The waitress didn't care and when I asked for my money back she disappeared into the back and wouldn't come out and she totally ignored repeated requests for my money back. Once I got my food I raced home to my starving family (ps my wife is Japanese) and we all gagged on dry rice and soggy tempura and overall lousy food. Absolutely disgusting. Hopefully they will close it down and somebody that cares will take it over.

When I walked in I thought this was going to be great. They sat me, poured my beer gave me time to peruse the menu. Things looked good. The menu was, to say the least odd. I ordered an uni dish that came with a dime sized piece of uni and a bowl of tofu. Uggh. Then I waited close to 30 minutes for 3 little over cooked prawns on a stick. 15 agonizing minutes later the clams cooked in sake were over boiled in water and hard as rubber. They ignored me, as if they didn't care if I was there or not. It was awful. I will never go back. It looked so nice, odd japanese I guess. If you go be aware its expensive and dicey.

The food has always been good. The new location has great ambiance, better parking, and friendly, helpful staff. Service is usually prompt but they do get busy so you can watch a game or two on the big screen while you wait. The roast lamb is tender. Their pita is, by far, the best I have had in years. Great place to bring the kids and try the various platters.

great beers

If you are looking for a place to have some good food with fabulous beers you gotta try this brew pub. Unique garlic french fries coupled with their ESB made my meal marvelous. One thing that was hard to swallow was when my little girl had to go to the loo the manager came over and snapped at her scaring her half to bits. Apparently she and others under 19 are not allowed on one side of the restaurant. You HAVE to WALK around through the bowling alley. We would go back if that jerk manager hadn't been so abrupt with my kid. How is she supposed to know? Manage that big River. Otherwise it was a nice place.

Bamboo needs some work
Submitted Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 11:17pm [Dine in]

My family and I went to the bamboo grove and after we were seated the waiter came to take our order. Right then, we noticed our menu did not include some ordering styles/dishes we had seen before. We asked about the dishes and he said we would not be interested in them and we should just order from this english menu. PS WE ARE WHITE. But we dont need forks if you get my meaning. The dishes we wanted are on a chinese menu but not english? See ya later. Or not.

Nothing like a little blues and a couple of well cooked eggs to go with it.
Raiden has done a great job offering Vancouverites a new and better place for all day breakfast!!! Try Steves Breakfast. Super hash browns.

More like bozo. Upon entering the first thing you notice is there is no bar seating. No sushi bar. Lousy setup for a single guy going into an alleged Izakaya. I ordered the special and a beer. Got neither. They were sold out of the lunch sushi special (come on its 12:30 pm) and no beer in stock. Yeah like thats a profitable Izakaya. These owners are NOT Japanese for sure. Once my second choice showed up it was to say the least unappealing and tasted as bad as it looked. Bill please Im outta here!!
