The Red Door is my favorite place to take out of town friends when I want a casual , fun place with excellent food!
There has been NOTHNG I have ever ordered that didn't POP with great taste!
NOONE I have ever taken there has been disappointed. From the minute you walk in the door you are greeted.Even if there isn't anyone right AT the door, someone from the bar area will acknowledge you immediately and come right over to seat you.
They have a decent choice of wines to choose from, something for every palate.
You can have anything on the menu spicy or notso spicy. They are happy to accomodate your tastes and dietary needs.(I always get the Green Beans without ground pork and they substitute tofu!)
The service is amazing and never ONCE has there been an issue with a server being so much as lackadaisical! AWESOME people terrific food and a real treat!
EVERY server has their personal fave dish too! Ask them!

We'll NEVER go again. And that's saying a lot because we've been going for YEARS!
The last 3 visits have left not only a bad taste as far as the food but the SERVICE HAS BECOME UNFORGIVABLE!
We'll never be back!
-food was ridiculously over priced for the 'quality" and the taste.
-lobster over cooked and rubbery
-our ceasar salad (for 3 of us)sat PREPARED and in the bowl behind us on the cart for TEN MINUTES while the 3rd person's appetizer was still being prepared in the kitchen.
My husband has been a patron here for YEARS and it was where he took me on our first date. Since one of their recent fires they reorganized the seating and took away a couple of their more intimate "date" style tables, leaving no room for a romantic dinner.
It really hurts to say we'll never go back.

I have been to Adonia 5 or 6 times. Various days of the week and the one thing that is consistent is the lack of FRIENDLY service. They are far too quiet, not welcoming and the girls seem a bit apprehensive.
Now all that being said, the food is good, I like the shrimp appetizers. (although afternoon tea is generally started with fresh fruit). They do not provide enough scones and definitely do not provide enough cream and jam!!(They will bring you more scones if you ask but there is an extra charge. My thinking is...how much CAN a 1' scone actually cost and wouldn't it be nice to provide a few more within reason before adding to the bill?)
My favorite tea is the strawberries and cream flavour and it's nice that they refill the hot water for you..BUT...when you have been there over an hour chatting with your freinds, I THINK it might be nice to offer fresh tea leaves instead of the constant watering down of the "used" ones.
I will admit I am a regular at The Fairmont Empress(6 or more times a year) but I am NOT a tea snob, even in Victoria we will attend tea at little out of the way places where the service, and food varies.I am always excited to patronize a small business but I DO have some things that would cause me to not return.bad food, cold tea and TERRIBLE service. Adonia doesn't hit 10 on a 1-10 scale....but at least they make a 7. Worth a return occasionally.
One thing I will admit.I was a little put off on my first visit when everyone that worked there was Asian.("what do they know about English tea ?!" , I thought.) That was an instant and unkind thought and I immediately put that out of my head and gave them an honest go. They do "OK". NOT outstanding, but OK. They COULD be outstanding with more outgoing servers!(and more cream and JAM!) =)
oh ya!....some of the art work on the walls makes me smile because it has NOTHING to do with England or tea but the furnishinggs are quaint and lovely.
