For the Broke and/or Starving

Though it's miles away from being good food, there's really not that many places to have Japanese food in that area. Yes, the quality is sub par and I find their overuse of mayonnaise offensive. But guess what, it's relatively cheap too.

In regards to service, I don't expect much from them. Same reason I don't walk into McDonalds expecting anything other than getting my orders right. In fact, I'm quite impressed with their willingness to substitute items in some of their combo sets which most places would not allow.

I Love Fridays!
Submitted Wednesday, February 29, 2012 - 11:05am [Dine in]

I visit Gyoza King pretty much every Friday since that's the only weekday they're open for lunch. They have a wide selection of lunch boxes priced in the $10-15 range. Food tastes amazing and is also well portioned. To top it off, the staff always provides friendly service. Only complaint I can have for this place is they're only opened one of the five days during the work week. Or I'd be there almost everyday!

Miko Sushi Japanese Restaurant1335 Robson Street, Vancouver
Fairly priced

Usually visit Miko for their sushi or sashimi lunch boxes. While they don't have the largest portion sizes, the quality of the food is slightly better than the average joint. Overall, the food is good and the price is reasonable. It's Japanese owned and operated and IN DOWNTOWN. What more do you want?

Good honest food

Probably one of the few places in the area where you can get decent food that's fast (if you order their shawarma) and relatively cheap (considering the vicinity). If you've never tried their Tabbouleh (salad), give it a shot. Might not appeal to everyone, but I prefer it over their standard Greek Salad. Their beef souvlaki's pretty good too, but the wait is a little long for me since I'm usually there for take out only.

Unlikely to go back
Submitted Wednesday, February 29, 2012 - 10:19am [Take-out]

Decided to drop in one day since I always walk past this place when I go out for lunch. To be safe, I tried out their specialty items and ordered the Shimp and Corn Fritters as well as the Bouillabaisse.

The Fritters were pretty awful. It was either fried to the extent that it was almost burnt or it was really old oil. Neither a good sign, all I tasted was oil (I ate a few and just threw it out). While the Bouillabaisse was edible, the flavor was just bland. And being charged $13 for that dish alone, I felt I deserved better. Overall, I would not go back to this place. If their "specialties" were this bad, I can't imagine what their regular menu items would be like.

Disappointed
Submitted Monday, September 21, 2009 - 7:58am [Dine in]

Came here for a quick dinner and ordered the following:
Shrimp Cake
Pad Thai

The Shrimp Cake was nice although a little steep for the portion size. The Pad Thai was straight out disappointing since it looked and tasted like it was microwaved instead of freshly made. I was expecting a lot more for an authentic Thai restaurant and would not go back again.
