My 1st time there and I had heard some good/bad things about the restuarant. We had a reservation, as our party was 12 people, but we still had to wait after arriving on time. We were seated upstairs after a while. A few people in our group had been there before, and said it's hit or miss. They gave us this risotto sampler dish (to each of us) and everyone in our party said it was undercooked! Didn't the chef try a spoonful before serving it? I ordered the roast chicken penne as my entree, and again, my pasta was undercooked! Sure, I like my pasta al dente with a little bit of a bite, but this was just plainly undercooked. I was not impressed at all.
I would not take a date there, unless you're both into sign language. It is loud inside and you have to raise your voices to each other to be heard!
Another thing, larger parties (more than 8) are automatically charged 18% gratuity, just a reminder if you're going in a large party.
And one last thing, why do restuarants use such LARGE menus?!? I mean physically large! Our server had to come back 3 times to take our entire order, because he could not handle all the menus at once. Make it easier on the patrons (& the server) by having a reasonable sized menu! After I selected what I wanted to eat, I had to leave the menu on the floor against my chair. Sorry, just a peeve of mine.
We (my gf and I) went there last night to meet up with another couple for dinner. When we showed up, there was another party of 3 ahead of us, which is fine. Another couple walked in after us, and stood in front of the party of 3. A little while later, the hostess finally acknowledges all of us waiting for a table, comes over and proceeds to seat the couple who came in after us! Both the party ahead of us, and myself, told the hostess that we were here before them...but she just stared at us blankly and proceeded to seat them! No, they didn't have a reservation. That was just rude, not only of the hostess, but the couple as well. I did not see a manager so I couldn't talk to him/her about what just happened. We were finally seated, and I was seated right next to the couple who butted ahead of us. Not once did he look me in the eye, full well knowing what they did!
Food wise, was okay. I had spaghetti and meatballs, the gf had a chicken burger, but presentation did not resemble a burger in any way. It was a chicken breast covered with gravy and mushrooms atop a piece of garlic bread with salad and fries on the side. The other couple we were with both had pizza's.
Probably won't be back again, as the service and what happened to us there really irked me.
I use to go here quite often when it first opened a few years ago, but it has changed hands to a new couple who runs this little hole in the wall down Victoria Drive near 54th Avenue. They do try to imitate other restuarants by providing some fancy fusion rolls and such, but I usually order the bowl of Ramen or Udon. It's pretty consistent, not the best ramen in town, but definately not the worst. I'd go eat there if you're in that part of town for some reason, but remember, it's a tiny little place and last time I went, it was CASH ONLY.
A group of 7 of us reserved a table for 7:30pm and were seated promptly. Restaurant was not full at all. After we got our drinks, it took a long while to place our dinner orders. And then we waited, and waited and waited! We don't know why it took so long, but we didn't get our meals till around 9pm! Again, the place was not full at all! Service is rated poor, the waitress did not come back to check with us to ask us about the food, or come back to fill our water glasses.
When we got our food, it wasn't piping hot, so why did we have to wait so long for this? And the one person who ordered a salad with chicken(in order to avoid the fried foods), the cheese and chicken were fried on it! So much for trying to eat healthy! Quality of food was just so-so. 5 out of the 7 of us, did not finish our plates, not because we weren't hungry (we were starving at this point), but because the food wasn't all that good!
Groups of 6 or more are required to pay gratuity of 17%. Needless to say, we didn't feel that 17% was deserved. We will not be back again.
