Disappointing to say the least! Pork momos were ok, but what's with the non-descript dipping sauce? Tasteless! Cold food...after 52 minutes waiting? Huh? Crunchy rice and crunchy vegetables...totally undercooked...and, COLD! Butter chicken was ok, but cold, and chicken had not been cooked in the sauce. $50 for two people: 1 appetizer and two meals...not as "reasonable" as others have stated. It's loud, it's dark, it's just not that great.
Oh dear, Victorians have been singing the praises of Da Tandoor for far too long! Although likely the best of the worst, Da Tandoor offers rich sauces with jalapenos added for spice and meat added to sauce. The prices are comparable with other Indian restaurants in Victoria, but man alive this place receives too much credit. I give credit to the Asian family who owns and operates this Indian restaurant for keeping it going for the 10 years I've lived here. When food is fresh and made to order, my appetite is satisfied and my stomach is happy. When food has been "pre" pared and warmed to serve, I can always tell because of the instant dissatisfaction of my digestive tract: for me, Da Tandoor is heart burn central and, believe me, I eat spicy cuisine daily with no problem. Service is ok but ambiance needs major cleaning...carpet cleaning, fresh coat of paint and a dusting once in a while would help. Overhaul required!
ARGH! Ok, so I'm from England and have been spoiled with stellar balti dishes for far too long, but come on Victoria! Where's the authenticity in Indian cuisine? $50 bucks for watered down Bhuna and Rogan Josh...yuck and ouch! Appies could have been purchased from Safeway and tasted fresher! Soggy, burnt bread and meat added to sauce, not cooked in sauce. I give up! I've tried them all folks! Buy yourselves a tin of Patak's and let loose...you'll be better off for it!
As a Caucasian who love Asian cuisine, it is always reassuring to see many Asian people frequenting an Asian restaurant. To me, it says that this is the real deal! Sen Zushi will not disappoint as the food is fresh, timely and extremely flavourful. The service has always been friendly, helpful (when determining what's what) and prompt. Other Japanese restaurants in Victoria are either North Americanized or owned and operated by non-Japanese restauranteurs. I really can't say enough about this place and encourage those who fancy exciting their pallets to try it out!
