Great local sushi
Submitted Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 7:00pm [Dine in]

My wife and I live in the N. Burnaby area and there are a multitude of sushi places along Hastings. This is our favourite. They only do sushi (i.e., no teriyaki chicken, tempura) but they do a great job of it. Some reviewers here have complained about the weird service but to be fair, it's only a couple that run the place. And it does say "Order here" where you're supposed to order. The tea is also clearly labelled as self serve. The couple is so friendly and always greet us with a smile.

Now, the food. We really like the sushi there. If you want a great place to sit down and eat and you're willing to pay more, Okada sushi downtown Vancouver is great. However, if you want something fast cheap and close, it doesn't get better than this. They have a great 'smoked salmon' roll which you don't see very often. Give it a try. I'd also recommend the sashimi salad.

Go give it a try. :)

Worst experience in the last 5 years
Submitted Saturday, March 8, 2008 - 7:15pm [Dine in]

I honestly can't think of the last time I went out to eat and was truly UNHAPPY. Everyone at my table was actually depressed when we ate our meal. The service was poor... in fact, i think the guy was afraid to ask us how our meal was. He didn't ask, so I didn't offer an opinion.

We had a nabayaki udon, an unknown fish dish which was salty and dry over a bed of bean sprouts (also over cooked), and some sushi, which was all rice and very 'fishy' tasting fish. The nabayaki udon wasn't what you'd expect (eggs, tempura, etc) and instead was with vegetables and ummm other stuff.

I would say this was the worst eating experience I've had in a long long time. We eat out a lot. Okada sushi, which isn't far from there, is a much better place. Worlds apart.
