Pho Central1161 Davie Street, Vancouver
Clean place for decent pho
Submitted Thursday, April 9, 2009 - 7:15pm [Dine in]

Been here for beef pho a few times. Pho is always good, noodles are perfect and the sprouts and basil are always beautiful and fresh. The grilled pork salad rolls are also really nice- even though they're mostly noodle. Dining room is TINY but very clean, washrooms are through the kitchen but also kept up well.

Don't come here if theres more than 2 of you unless it's really slow.

Amazing space, small portions

The design of this restaurant is really impressive. Service was solid, she was knowledgeable about the menu items when asked and gave appropriate wine recommendations. Shared 3 appies among the 3 of us: the chickpeas, the pate, and ribs which were a special that night. They were all really nicely done, pate was very fresh and well seasoned but portions were on the smaller side.

We decided to share a pizza among us since we weren't overly hungry. Got the mushroom and pancetta one. My first impression was 'i think they forgot the toppings!'.. literally 4 or 5 mushroom pieces, and a tablespoon worth of pancetta crumbles. Was disappointing to say the least.

Would be back for the appies and to try the entrees

Could be so much better

Went there expecting a really good burger. The slogan 'the last great burger stand' makes a pretty bold promise that just didnt measure up. Prices were steep but not unreasonable, and I liked how they brought the food to you instead of vera's style where you have to listen for your name in a noisy restaurant. I got onion rings and the portion was pathetic. My companion got fries and was given a much larger portion... consistency of side sizes was way off.

Burger itself was just ok. tasted fresh but the beef was lacking something. Service was good and the cashier was very helpful, but I won't be running back

Hamburger Mary's Diner1202 Davie Street, Vancouver
Stick with the Shakes & Burgers
Submitted Tuesday, July 1, 2008 - 4:25pm [Dine in]

Mary's is a pretty cool place, fun diner interior and nice patio outside.

The Milkshakes are amazing, theyre made from yogurt and come in a bunch of flavours. at over 6bucks theyre not cheap, but theyre also HUGE so get one to share.

The burgers are also pretty good, I had the Vancouver burger and it was very tasty. Fries tasted fresh, no complaints there. I havent heard many good things about the rest of the menu though.. I think when i return it'll be when im craving a burger.

Service is off and on, i think it really depends on who you get. I've had great service here and i've had so-so service as well, nothing shockingly bad like some of the reviews on here.

Overall a solid place if youre looking for simple food.

Great Sushi, Great Service.

I first came here on a recommendation by a friend. Since then we've been back many times because it's so good.

The service is very good for a sushi place, and the prices are reasonable. You can find cheaper places, but the portions are generous and always taste fresh.

My favourite is the simple avocado roll. LOADED with slices of ripe avocado, so delicious.

Decent place for a bowl of pho
Submitted Tuesday, July 1, 2008 - 4:02pm [Dine in]

Dined here recently because I had a craving, and it didnt disappoint.

Service was fast, we got 2 bowls of beef pho and an order of salad rolls. The rolls were ok, mostly noodles but tasted fresh.
The pho was flavourful, it hit the spot.

Service was friendly in this TINY restaurant, i'll be back.

Meh, Not Much to Say

I go here for a bowl of pho once in a while because I live quite close and there's not many places nearby for vietnamese.

The service is ok, usually pretty quick and they come to refill tea frequently. The place is clean enough, nothing special. It's pretty cheap, can usually get a bowl of pho and something to drink for under $8.

The broth is pretty bland, but the noodles and beef are ok. I usually flavour it with the hoi sin and spicy sauces on the table and its not bad.

There are many MUCH better places out there for pho, but if you're stuck in the area and have a craving, it'll do.

Just OK

2 friends and I recently ate at Kits Sushi, one of them had been there a few times and recommended it as cheap and good.

We all ordered combo-boxes, I ordered beef and they both ordered teryaki chicken. The chicken looked good and they both said it was ok, but the beef was gross. It was overcooked and tasted like leftovers reheated in the microwave with cheap sauce poured liberally on top to "mask" the age and poor quality.

The rolls, salad and tempura that came with the meals were to be expected, tasted fresh but nothing special. We also ordered some agedashe tofu, which was quite nice.

Overall I would eat here again, but I'd probably stick to the rolls. The place looked clean enough and the service was typical.
