Don't know why everyone is hating on GK.. I've been a fan for over a decade... love udon bowl, ebi-mayo, agadashi tofu, chicken karrage, and prawn gyoza.. and the vodka drinks are strooonnng ... always nice. Servers are nice - place is cute.. and the food is pretty cheap...open late makes it a frequent spot for me....

Weak weak margaritas...
Submitted Wednesday, August 5, 2009 - 11:56pm [Dine in]

I've gone three times now.. and each time I ordered a margarita and each time I was charged for a margarita but each time I could've sworn it was a virgin ... weak drinks!
The vegetarian dishes are a good price and filling. The service is pretty good - servers walk by often so its pretty easy to get more weak drinks ;-)
If your in the hood - not a bad choice...

Some good dishes...

Everything that is yummy is also unhealthy.. my fave picks: deepfried wings, deep-fried squid...
Oyster pancakes were gross- and really greasy.. keep in mind that I love fried food :-(
The rice isn't anything special, the frog legs weren't very good, and I found the dry noodle dishes bland....
I tried their 'famous' beef/sashimi dish.. again, nothing to get excited about...

Beer and a view

Always busy, filled with mostly guys. I like their beer (not their wine) and their food is edible, but of the frozen and then deep-fry variety... The bartender is good and some of the servers. Laid-back - no pressure to get you out after you eat or when you slow down on drinking... great nightly specials... i think on wed and thursday..

I've never tried the food, but I've been in for drinks. Don't like their sangria, mojitos, nor their beer. But its nice to sit inside, esp. next book case and the servers are pretty quick/let you linger. Beer prices are okay... I go only for the convenience - like when it rains and I don't feel like walking to black frog (better beer and cheaper if you on the right night).

Not too sure..

I'm not sure if I would frequent this place often... its a nice space - great for a date... but as a regular spot... I don't think so. I don't like their beers, and their wine pours are 1 oz, however ... the pad thai is amazing, I would probably do take-out just for the pad thai... entrees are delicious - value there- :-) but the appetizers not so much..

I live super close - great deal for lunch or late nite - if it was far away, I wouldn't bother - but here is the breakdown on the tasty stuff...
deepfried squid, chop scallop cone, chicken teriyaki, speciality rolls, and oyster motoyaki - worth the $11.00 or $13.00 .. you get 20% for take out... oh - salmon belly is good - their tempura sucks ;-)

I go for the spring rolls on vermicelli... its cheap at $7.- and really filling. Love the veggies and fish sauce. The salad rolls are pretty good - and I like the chicken too. To date, this is the best place I found - always fresh and consistent - competitive pricing and tasty...................................................................

Yes, its not dirt cheap - but the value is there - esp. prawn, aspar, lemon may roll.. the quality is good and the happy hour deal is very good... Nice change from cheap sushi places - ideal for a filling snack - not so much an all you can eat gorge festival.. I stop by whenever I'm in the hood.......................................................................

This place is not as good as it was five or 8 years ago.. but that may because they haven't raised their prices since then...

The only thing I would order is the roast lamb or the vegetarian lasagna... the wine is never very good - and the calamari is too dry... Despite the big portions and tasty lamb/lasagna dish, I think I would rather go to Taki's...But for the price, you won't feel disappointed or ripped off :-)

Great seafood...
Submitted Wednesday, November 5, 2008 - 5:02pm [Dine in]

Unlike other diners.. I had a very nice experience. Great oysters (and you can't beat the price), and I enjoyed a delicious seafood stew... lots of generous pieces of fish, prawns, mussels, and the sauce was incredible... the strawberry shortcake was delicious too... Not a huge fan of their steak though... The place is very pretty - love the view from the window.. would definately come back to hang out in the lounge with some friends..

I love this place.. been coming for over 10 years...

Get sangria or wine ... calamari, bean salad, house salad, paella, potato bravos, and clams... the prices are great and it is so much fun... I chatted with the owner once- total sweetheart...

I would avoid chicken drummettes, ceviche, bread (extra) , ... the prawns are okay.. the pate is nice too... I prefer the red sangria over the white..

Also - i foundthe food better here than in Spain.. mind you I was a tourist in Spain ... and probably didn't go to the right places...

Definately worth it if you know what to order... There is a reason why its been open for more than forty years..

not greasy or generic like most Chinese pastry shops... particularly like the milk bread, pineapple bun and coconut bun.. Prices are very good - everything is fresh, and the pastries have a clean taste to it... if you eat a lot of Chinese pastries.. you will know what I mean... obviously the ingredients are top-notch.. I think the service is great - very knowledgable and there are always a ton of samples of the more expensive cakes and stuff... you can get breakfast that would feed 4 for under 5 dollars!!!

Unless this place changed (review below says JUST sushi???) this is a great place for unique, filling, comforting Japanese kitchen dishes... Love their pizza and mixed seafood tempura bowl... sooo good.

Love their beers and specials... deep fried potato thing... and umai tofu salad - lots peanut buttery gomae and crisp iceberg lettuce iwth tofu and some other veggies...

I have to go back and make sure it is the same... I would be upset to hear if the owner Karen moved on somewhere else..

The food is really tasty - cheap, and great value. Definitely get spring rolls, salad rolls, or the combo dishes. the combo with spring roll and chicken on noodles was fresh and very filling... and less than a whitespot express burger... One of my fave places to grab take-out.. healthy too! The people who work there are friendly and attentive... the free tea is nice and strong.. and the orange slice at the end was fresh (as in was not precut hours before ;-)
