I agree with the last reviewer. I use to eat here all the time (over the years). The prices are a bit higher than the average sushi joint, but well worth it. The quality is excellent, particularly the tempura don and sushi. The fish is always fresh and made to go and the rice is very nice. The nori is crisp too. The sushi chef is always really nice. Try their miso soup, its not the instant type. Love it love it love it.
I liked this place when I was younger (had more time to kill so didn't mind the slow service). The hummous dish and nachos are favourites. I like how ALL the nachos are covered in cheese/toppings. I've eaten some bowl with spinach/tofu and peanut sauce, filling and tasty. I didn't care for their burger, but thought their salads were good. Foundation has some inexpensive wine/beers, which is nice. Better than the Naam...
I've eaten here a few times... I've eaten my share of Chinese food, and I have to say the cooks are definitely catering to the non-Chinese (nothing wrong with that). The wonton is watery tasting (not flavourful), the rice is very light and bland (even by rice standards), but they make some tasty dishes. The prices are really good value, so I don't feel I can complain about value. The vegetables are cut by some lame vegetable cutter (the vegetables are 'fringed'... overall, if you are craving Chinese Canadian food, by all means, the noodle dishes and honey garlic are worth the $.
Incredible food! The casear salad, mussels, and the scallop/bacon appies are fabulous. The ribeye was incredible - the flavour, cut of meat were the best I have ever had. The speciality dessert was excellent as well. This place has become my new favourite restaurant... I'll be here for my next birthday for sure. I'm going to try the pasta next time...
Nice, intimate and tasteful room...
Okay, my fifth time. Got there at 5:15pm, and were seated when the doors opened at 5:30pm. I love this restaurant so much... the owner is so warm and charming, I really appreciate his effort to make guests feel welcome. The cocktails were okay, the wine was really nice (and VERY reasonably priced), the appies (heart attack and samosas) were so flavourful. The lamb I ordered was tender and de-lish. Dessert was also up to par with the rest of the food - some pistachio/mango ice-cream. The prices are really great - considering the quality/portion. I also like the chai and the million of other appies the staff rotated around the restaurant.
So after a night out (drinking at the Syliva) my bff and I headed to Vera's. Two beers, one burger and one order of fries ($15.00). I thought the burger was much better than the one(s) I tried in the Kits lcoation. The burger was piping hot, juicy and beefy. I wolfed it down, along with fresh fries that were beyond tasty. The beer (something honey brown?) was bubbly and fresh.. I think this place is doing a great job on the booze/food front... Definately a place I want to visit again :-0)
I'm a huge fish and chip fan, and I found the fish/chips to be better than average, but not anything to rave about. The pieces of fish are generous, the batter was light and almost fluffy (which I didn't like, I like it crisp and a little crunchy). I didn't go for the AYCE, though the regular prices are pretty reasonable. The fries are bland, and no amount of their tartar sauce (too mild tasting for me) could liven it up. If I'm ever in the hood, I would drop by... mostly for their beer/wine price.. and service.
While not a 'hot spot' (note the senior citizens galore), this restaurant serves delicious Mediterranean style ribs. Think dry ribs, spiced with herbs/salt, about half a rack... Nice rice pilaf, Greek salad, and pita bread. The portion are bigger if you order it to go. The calamari is nice too, fluffy and very dry.
Free parking in the area after 8pm.
I've been coming here for at least 6 years... nice if you want to celebrate in a quiet way..
Top picks:
Calamari (Dijon style)
Ahi tuna
pork chops
fries
beans and sliced almonds
scallops with mirin cream (but I didn't see it on the menu last time)
My favourite mint julep cocktail is no longer made... so wine it is.... the prices aren't bad either...
I'm no authority figure on 'authentic' Mexican food... but I'm quite taken with the food here... the appetizers/mains are tasty.. I like the tortilla appy with beans/lettuce/, and the HUGE enchilada/burrito. Fresh food. I didn't care for their guacamole.. big chunks of avocado and not much else... for $7.00...
I was a little peeved though, that our server forgot to give us our complimentary chips/salsa, but it was really busy and I'll be the first to admit I don't need the extra calories ;-) Plus, our servers were very sweet.
Beers are reasonably priced... usually a wait, but a table for two never takes long... I would highly recommend going back...
I would like it.. i've been twice now.. chips are small and not potatoey (think shards of dark brown bits).. the fish is skimpy, but the colesalw is good. The oyster sandwich is not bad, but personally, I rather go to Tony's where its cheaper and comes with decent fries... if I were a tourist, I wouldn't mind this place but since I've had better in Vancouver/Richmond/WestV , no, I wouldn't go back.
I use to work here - so I know how clean the place is.. the owners are perfectionists and insist on using gourmet everything in the sandwiches. The prices are on the high side, but that's because they use Terra breads/gourmet spreads/cheeses, meats/etc. They make an incredible tuna sandwich (grilled) - my absolute favourite sandwich. Its filling too - and if you eat it there it comeds with a salad. Try a mocha smoothie or an Americano (esp one made by Tan or Elsie). Mine were never as good as the ones they made ;-)
Not a bad place in Richmond to go... fajitas are nice - very homemade ish (vegetables cut a bit differently/shape), yummy fresh salsa and free chips, and margaritas made with fresh juice, no sugar. Nice! I like Don's Guacomole on Robson and Las Margaritas more though... Service is great and geniune.. support small businesses!!!
So... last nite we found out the wait to Vij's was 2.5 hours.... I really wanted some lamb popsicles, but we didn't want to wait. Headed next door, got a nice seat right away, and ate some pretty good food. Lamb stew was nice, tangy, tender.. the naam bread was great... came with a salad (left untouched). Tried their pakoras - very nice, and some eggplant dish (so-so). Definately worth what they are charging.. and the prices for wine/cocktails very affordable. I would definately go again.
I am still hunting for a 'favourite' steakhouse in Vancouver. The server we had was moody - I have no idea what we said (or rather, didn't say) to make him turn, though he convieniently became engaging as he brought our meal at the end...
My sister's big old porterhouse was OVERCOOKED - perhaps because the server ran away without asking her how she wanted it.. My rib-eye was good, the sides were average. The room is really gorgeous - .. I heard saltlik makes good steaks, so I guess I'll go there next time i'm craving steak..
I've never bothered to eat here, but my parents recently ate here and enjoyed their meal.
I tried their two piece halibut and fries.. fresh, sweet fish (big pieces) and long, golden brown fries... the vegetarian sandwich was also excellent - lots of grilled vegetables and pesto mayo, between foccacia bread... not cheap but totally worth it. They have a dinner special that I am dying to try.. 3 courses only $25!
Way better than thai house, and a lot cheaper... love the pad thai, yellow curry, pumpkin with beef and green curry with chickena and eggplant... the curries have a very distinct, pleasant taste, a little spicy but definately bearable.. the spring rolls are a little bland and greasy.. My family loves getting take-out from here.. About $30.00 for four.
Holy crap - these dogs are dee-licious..... I was a little skeptical, but after trying one I am a die-hard fan. The teri-mayo is a beef dog, sliced on the side so when its grilled it gets crispy..., and the bun is fluffy and toasted.. the best part is the taste of the weiner fresh off the grilled, topped with onions, seaweed flakes and japanese mayo... so juicy... and filling too, well worth $4.75..
The desserts are incredible - esp. caramel chocolate cake - creamy mousse, the cake is embedded with little coffee/crunchy bits, little burst of fruit puree - wow ! I've never had dessert like this - and the price is pretty good value -. I've tried quite a few - love them all... eating one of their creations is quite the experience...
Not that I'm complaining... I like the honey garlic, lemon and salt something, Greek something or other... I don't think it really matters which one you end up getting - the wings are crispy and juicy - plump and hot... though once we got lukewarm wings (honey garlic) and it doesn't taste so great..
The beer isn't cheap, but at least there is a variety... Wings has a in-house beer - only $12.99 a pitcher. usually busy on a friday and saturday.. The restaurant is a little grubby - I would be a little scared to see what the place looks like in light :-P
